  1. I just got my second fill and finally understand what everyone is talking about on restriction and having to eat slowly and not being able to eat certain things. I have discovered that I am really tight in the morning and I am wondering what you guys do for breakfast. I was thinking of a shake but I don't know if a liquid breakfast would keep me full for 3-4 hours. Also, I have been drinking my water by gulping it down to get it out of the way......not anymore. How do you manage to get 60+ oz of water in if you are sipping it and not for 30 min before or after eating. Oh and one more.... I do breakfast at 6 am so by 10 am I am starving but lunch is still an hour off. I know that we are not supposed to snack but what do you do in this situation?

  2. I actually started to gain weight on the liquids. I discovered that the soups had a lot more carbs than the shakes and I can only guess that it did not help. Once I got on solids I lost the extra weight and have been losing about a pound a week since. I have my first fill tomorrow so I am hoping that will help too.

  3. I was banded a week later. I am losing about a pound a week now. I am excited that I am getting my first fill on saturday and I hope that it helps with restriction and not being hungry as often. The biggest thing I have noticed is how little I "listened" to my body before the surgery. I am so paranoid of messing up my shot at being healthy that I actually stop eating when I am satisfied instead of when I am so full it hurts. I have only BP'd one time and I am proud of that and it was just as Dr Miranda said it would happen too...when I was eating and doing something else at the same time. Wow, the pain alone was enough to teach me to keep slowing it down. I am down 35 pounds but 28 of that was before the surgery. I actually gained wait on the creamy phase but as soon as I switched over to the real food I started losing weight again. It was really weird. I thought that I would lose weight while on the liquids but I guess we are all different.

  4. I copied this from dolittle's post about how to get the most out of a fill.

    14. Learn to recognize your "soft stop" sign. Common ones are chest tightness or "fullness", a sudden runny nose, a single hiccup or burp, an eye twitch, back pain, left should pain. All mean the pouch is full enough and we should stop eating, even spitting out the bite that may be already in our mouths. If you do not, you could progress to the "hard stop" - slimming, pb, barfing.

I am just curious because I am trying to learn how to listen to my body more and my mind less.

  5. I went to the OCC last month for my band and we did not have any problems. I agree with the previous posters that as long as you are careful and pay attention to what is going on you should be fine. We only went out during the day and took a taxi if it was further than a few blocks from the hotel. We had a great time and the only reason I am getting my fill next month at a center is because I can't afford to fly back out to TJ. Good luck!

  6. So I was banded on friday and feel great so far. It was interesting though because I was the only person out of the 6 bands scheduled for the day to actually get the band. All of the others switched over to a new surgery that the OCC is doing called Plication. It seems like a good thing but I had only researched the band and did not know enough about the other option to feel comfortable with switching. I did notice that the sugery seemed to take a lot more out of the patients than mine did and they had to stay in TJ a day longer than I did and do daily checks with the dr to make sure everything was healing. It seems to be a great new thing but is not approved here in the states yet and is new enough that Dr Ortiz has only done 100+. I was just wanting to let those of you going for the band know about this new option so that you can research now and not be asked to make a decision on the day of your surgery for something you know nothing about.

  7. I am getting ready for my trip in two weeks and I am wondering what would be fun to do while we are in tiajuana. We are really excited about this trip and have never been so we would love to know what to do while in town. Also, what did the person that came with you do while you were staying in the clinic overnight? My last question is for those that have gone recently, everytime I tell someone I am going to tiajuana they kinda freak out and tell me it is not safe, so my question is how is it really? Thanks everyone, I am really excited and love the information and support that this forum gives.
