  1. Smiam,

I assume you're going to do the 2-week diet of 2 shakes and 1 Lean Cuisine. That's the one I did. It wasn't too bad. You get a lot of head hunger, and plan on some tummy growls too. You can eat up to FOUR pounds of salad according to Dr. Miranda. Use the salad spritzers or plain vinegar. You can do it. You have to want the surgery bad enough. It also gets you on the road to healthier eating, and you get a mind set. When you get cravings, drink something warm. Have broth, tea, sugar free cocoa. It's stage one. Then you'll be on liquids, then solids, then 3 meals with your fill. Lots of little steps to get you where you want to go.

On the two week diet, plan to lose about 1 pound a day...it's really exciting!!

    Good luck!

    Peace,

  2. I went down on 6/18. I had no problems at all. I used the water bottles provided in the room at the Lucerna for drinking, and purchased juice boxes in town. I still used the tap water for brushing my teeth. I don't think there's a problem with TJ water like further south in Mexico, but since the bottled water was there, I drank it. I had a fruit drink in town at The Medicine Company. It's on Revolucion. It was fantastic! I ate the tortilla soup at the restaurant at The Lucerna after surgery, they blend it for "Ortiz patients" but you can also order clear chicken broth. I even ordered some of that tortilla soup to take to the airport. If you ask for water at the restaurant, they give you a water bottle and charge you $2.40. The Orangina is the same price and 100% better!

After surgery, go shopping! I went to the TJ Costco, and spent the rest of the day on Revolucion. That night, we walked to the Mall. It helps with the surgical pain and the gas.

The bellhops will leap at you to carry your bags. I recommend a light rolling carry-on bag.

I had a flight back to Seattle, had no problems at all. They will give you some pain med at the clinic. I took one for my flight. I got a pillow on the plane but didn't really need it. I was worried too, but I had no problems.

The only thing I wish I did different was travel lighter. The only things I really needed were my regular meds, toothbrush, hairbrush, nightgown for the hotel, and a couple changes of underwear. I am serious!!

Feel free to email me as much as you like: notime2qlt@aol.com

  3.

No... its UP TO 4 pounds of greens per day prior to surgery. For snacking, salads, to help with hunger... you don't HAVE to eat it. I'm just cracking up - I can't imagine someone force feeding themselves 4 pounds of salad a day!!!

I love you guys - you keep me smiling :)

Okay Lori, you got me. I am a very *literal person. When I'm told FOUR pounds, I'm going to make myself a FOUR pound Tupperware bowl of salad and work on it. I told dh I'm going to bring Dr. Miranda FOUR pounds of salad in a trough! I hope she has a sense of humor! LOL

I have since learned however that cucumbers and tomatoes weigh considerably more than butter lettuce!! =D>

  4. I will be having my surgery on June 20th. I am having a tough time with my pre-op diet I have lost about 13 pounds and 15 to go I hope to lose at least 10 more #-o . I do not want Dr. Miranda to tell me that I cannot have surgery. She told me that most patients lose a half lb. to 1 lb. per day on the liquid only diet. I am following to the T. Michelle

Hi Michelle. I am being really good on my diet too. Congrats on the 13 pound loss. Wow! How long have you been on your diet? I am only on day #3.

Do you know what's up with the FOUR pounds of salad per day that you're allowed? I buy the spring greens in a box from Costco and it takes our family a week to go through it, and it only weighs ONE pound. Maybe Dr. M means 1/4 pound???

Maybe I will get a chance to meet you on the 20th before I check out.

  5. Hey Rhonda,

I'll be there!!! With bells on!! I'm so excited - how are you doing with pre-op diet and preparation?

    Richelle

Hey Richelle! Will I know you by your bells? What day are you going down? We have an extra day at the hotel for Saturday because flights on Sunday were completely booked.

I'm on day 3 of the diet. I'm doing the option with the 2 shakes/Lean Cuisine for 15 days. I think 700 calories or less a day is EXTREMELY brutal!! What diet are you doing???

As far as prep, I have my tylenol, gas-x, tucks and a sippy cup. LOL

Do you have a list of what is recommended?
