  1. You shouldn't worry! In fact I think a small weight gain is expected and normal after going off the liquid diet. Sure, we'd all like to avoid that, but be easier on yourself. As for the low calorie content, that could be part of your problem. Going that low forces your body into starvation mode and it holds on to all fat for future lean times. It could be fluids you are retaining too.

I'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. This is the last week of my liquid diet. Since I had the flu for three days I really haven't regained my appetite, which will make this final week of liquids easier to deal with.

Can anyone reading this respond? I want to know what the long term expense demands will be for me before going forward. I assume Dr. Ortiz includes all fills and follow ups in his price for one year (that seems to be the common practice cost wise). Whats to be expected the second year and every year thereafter? Will I have to continue to fill/unfill for the rest of my life, or will there come a time when I will forget the band is there and not have to visit any more doctors?? I suppose at least once a year to make sure everything is okay. This is the part I am in the dark about.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

  2. I was banded March 22. I have no regrets, everyone there was so nice. The OCC is very clean, you room is very nice. Doctors and nurses are very caring. I was back to work 4 days later. Not much pain at all, just a little discomfort. It was a great experience for me. I am so excited to start my new life with less weight. Dr Ortiz and his staff are the best!!!!

  4. WELCOME!!!

I'M 5'3" AT MY HIGHEST WEIGHT I WAS 192. ON SURGERY DAY I WAS 184. I'M NOW JUST HANGING OUT AT 157 BUT I HAVEN'T WORKED AT ANY OF THIS SO FAR. I FEEL I'M AT A NICE COMFORTABLE FILL LEVEL, NOT TO TIGHT AS I DO WANT TO EAT LOL

HAS IT BEEN WORTH IT? OH HELL YA!!!

I'VE NEVER BEEN A DIETER, THERE WAS NO WAY THE WEIGHT WAS COMING OFF AND EVERY YEAR I'D JUST GAIN A FEW MORE POUNDS. I'VE QUIT SMOKING, OK ONE NOW AND AGAIN LOL AND LOST A FEW POUNDS IN THE MEAN TIME AND I FEEL GREAT!!!

SOME WOULD SAY, GEEZ PAM, THAT'S ALOT OF MONEY FOR 27 POUNDS AND I SAY YEP, AND I'D DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN TOO AS IT FEELS GOOD GETTING 3 BOWLING BALLS WORTH OF WEIGHT OFF...... FOR GOOD!!!

GOOD LUCK IN YOUR JOURNEY :)

Wow Pam this was the answer I was waiting for. Although if I thought I was capable of loosing ten or more pounds prior to surgery I might not need the surgery . . . thanks.

  5. Hi Vickie, Soon enough, you will be that helpful person for someone contemplating the whole idea. When I first read the forums, I thought, NO WAY I was going to TJ MX, In fact, they were offering another amount of 13k at another location in MX, and I had orginally made up my mind to go there and pay the extra 5k, crazy, I know. (Because of the damage from a storm to the facility, they were not accepting patients) good thing for me as I saved some $$, LOL, but as I read, you feel a lot more comfortable about the deciding because of the experiences of the people on the forums with the facility and Dr. O. Your surgery is comin up! Good Luck to you.

    Teri

So did you fly back to TJ each time you needed a fill? Don't those costs add up a lot? How do you know when you need a fill?

  6. Hi all,

This is my first post and it took a while before I was able to maneuver around this board, finally made it. Okay, I am at the surfing the internet phase and was hoping some of you might give me some friendly advice. I am not chronically overweight, I weigh 180 at 5'2" but like many have not been able to loose it for many years and I feel it in my knees. What I wish to know is this: do you honestly feel it is worth the permanent life style change with food and gas pains etc. for me to take off 50 pounds? How many follow up fills are involved and do you ever reach a point when no follow up is required?

Looking forward to your response, thank you.
