  1. Hi Mike my name is Sharon and I am new to this group but I have been reading a lot of posts. I do not weigh 350 pounds I am way under but I am at 255 right now I have lost 15 pounds on my own from diet and exercise. Man you have to exercise the fat will not leave by just eating certain foods you have to work your butt off and it will all be good in the end. My Dr. told me that ther heavier a person is will be more successful in the lapband and lose weight at a different speed if your willing to work at it. I am 53 years old and gained my weight during my son's illness he was terminally ill as a child and passed away just 2 months shy of his 22nd BD and let me tell you I went from 123 pounds to where I am at today and it caused me to become type 2 diabetic, HBP, DJD and well when your heavy like us your quality of life is down the tubes that is how I see it. I look into the mirror and say out loud Sahron what did you do to yourself and how are we going to fix this. I ate out of grief, food beccame my frind and then my enemy. I watch what I eat. I drink slim fast optima twice per day and then a light meal and I drink my water or crystal light. I exercise at home twice per day and walk and it all is paying off. I don't know your age but when your in your 50's it is harder but it will pay off. I know you will do well as so will I. Luck to you my new forum frined and to your buddy, having the buddy system is a great help. Sharon sharrroc@aol.com
  2. Hey Roger you look great thought I would let you know
  3. If you can afford seeing a Dr. that is involved in the Optifast program and have some money you might cosider this. It is a liguid diet but the weight loss benefits are a plus, it is a 6-8 week program but it does work. My buddy lost 80 pounds in 6 -8 weeks time but eating after weight loss really has to be watched for you can gain weight back if your not careful.
  4. I I have not been banded as of yet but I do exercise now everyday and I also walk and it is hotter than blue blazes here in Texas. I used to drive to the park and then said heck with that. I live in the country and have just over 5 acres of land so well you guess it I walk my land and let me tell you it is hotter out here than in town. I do pilates, resistance bands, I ahve a treadmill and a easy glider by Tony Little and then I turn on the stereo and well dance my butt off. I drink the slimfast optima 2 times per day not really missing food anymore, I drink tons of water and it is hard for I have to learn to sip and time myself as to how long it take to drink a cup full. I keep my food and exercise diary too. I started my liquid diet a few weeks ago just to see if I could actually handle it and well it took getting used to but I am on my way. I have lost 15 pounds to date on my own. I have no sleep apnea and my liver is normal size. I wanted to wish all of us the very best in our new venture to a healthier slimmer lifestyle. Have a great weekend. Sharon
  5. Yes I will be having my band done in Waco, Texas I have Insurance and it will cover the procedure. I called today and forund out that I was approved for the surgery. I will ahve all my fills done free it is included in the package deal. I am not too sure about going to Mexico to ahve surgeries I ahve seen many stories about people and complications . My friend has a freind that had hers done in Mexico Via San Antonio, TX and she had her lapband done and a face life for 3,000 sounds too good to be true but she said that both surgeries came out fine and the woman looks beautiful.
  6. I have been reading about people ehre going to Mexico to have thier LapBand done. can you tell me if anyone is from Texas and seeing Dr's in their state. I am from Texas and I have been going to the Bariatric Center at Providence in Waco, TX I am still waiting on my insurance provider to approve me. I ahve done all the pleminary work and now playing the waiting game. The clinic told me that Firstcare res[ponds quickly and never had a problem with them in the past. I was just wondering if anyone here lives in Texas and will be having thier surgery here or in Mexico. Thanks Sharon
  7. From my other support group let me tell you what they all have to say. If your Insurance does not cover gastric bypass surgry of any kind, well then tehre is a thing called incidental surgery, say if you have the appendix removed well then a lot of Dr.s will go ahead and do the gastric surgery and tag it on as an incidental surgery and walla people have had the surgery and their insurance company covered it because you were having surgery in that particluar area. When I had my hysterectomy back in 1986 not only did that get removed but so did my gallbladder and appendix and well it was all covered. I know that some Insurance Companies do not allow the LapBand procedure but do allow the roux-en-y so some times a Dr. will make up a reason after the patient is under anestshia that they would not be a candidate for the roux-en-y but then will turn around and do the lapband and the insurance provider covers it.
