It was rather thoughtless for your friend to to blurt that out over a conference call since that puts you in a difficult position of having to either tell before you're ready or look like you're cutting someone you care about out of the loop, but it sounds like you handled it well.
I guess the decision of whether or not to tell people stems from out feelings about the band. I looked at the suregry as me stepping up and taking drastic action to get control over a personal demon rather than an admission of defeat or taking the easy way out as I've heard it referred to in the media. Because of that I told just about everyone in my life. Their support has certainly made this journey easier for me and I think you're going to find as you start telling more people you'll benefit greatly from their positive support.
I'VE TOLD A FEW HERE AND THERE AND A FEW HAVE SAID "HEY, I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT DOING THAT ALSO, TELL ME ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE"
I WAS AT A FAMILY PARTY 3 WEEKS AGO. MY "MOTHER" YELLED FROM ACROSS THE ROOM, "HEY PAM, HOW MUCH WEIGHT HAVE YOU LOST" HALF THESE PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT MY SURGERY BEING THERE ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FAMILY. SO I JUST YELLED BACK, "WHY, HOW MUCH WEIGHT HAVE YOU LOST THIS SUMMER" I WAS SOOOOOOOO MAD AT HER. OF COURSE SHE DIDN'T REPLY
WHAT GETS ME I GUESS, IT'S PERSONAL. A CHOSE I MADE. NOT HER. IF I WANTED PEOPLE TO KNOW, I'D TELL THEM. AND BESIDES, AT THE TIME SHE'D ASKED ME, I HADN'T GONE IN FOR A FILL YET. IF SHE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE BAND SHE'D REALIZE THE FIRST 6 WEEKS IS ABOUT HEALING, NOT LOSING WEIGHT. GRRRRRRR

Hey, I am scared to death to get the fill it seems worse to me than the surgery. Does it hurt? Do they numb the area? Thanks for the pics.

I HATE NEEDLES!!! HATE HATE HATE!!! I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE WHEN I GOT UP ON THAT TABLE!!! LOL I WAS LIKE OK WHY THE HELL DID I GET THIS BAND? SURGERY WAS A BREEZE, NOW SUPER SIZED NEEDLES FIT FOR AN ELEPHANT? LOL
BUT ONCE THE NEEDLE WAS IN, THERE WASN'T ANY PAIN AT ALL. IT'S JUST THE SIZE THAT'S INTIMIDATING.

AND IT REALLY DIDN'T NEED TO BE NUMBED

JUST GO THRU THE PICTURES, YOU GET ON TABLE, THEY PUT THAT ORANGE STUFF ON YA AGAIN AND FIND THE PORT. PUT NEEDLE IN, BEND THE TABLE SO YOU'RE SITTING UP, DRINK THAT CHALK STUFF AND WATCH IT ON THE MONITORS. WHEN THAT'S HAPPENING, THEY PUT THE SALINE IN AND CAN STOP THE FLOW OF BARIUM ALL TOGETHER OR LET JUST A LITTLE FLOW, IT'S INTERESTING TO WATCH IT AND FEEL IT ALL HAPPENING AT ONCE. THEY DID PUT THE SALINE IN, THEN TOOK IT ALL OUT TO TRY AND GET ALL THE AIR OUT OF THE LINES. (THE NEEDLE THOUGH ISN'T REMOVED :)THEY JUST CAP IT OFF WITH THE SALINE IF THAT MAKES SINCE)
IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES. I DIDN'T EXPLAIN IT WELL BUT IT'S PRETTY SIMPLE PROCEDURE

Hey Bahama girls. I had such a good time meeting you all. It was awesome to be able to hear your stories, in person, and see you face to face. My husband will let me go out by myself next time, not worried about any axe murderers among you. He also had a great time, thanks for making him feel so welcome.
I hope next time we get together we can coax a few more people out, we had so much fun. How about thinking of another day we could get together. Maybe in January?? Sunday works pretty well for me, and the location was good for me also. What about you guys??
Anyway, I was really looking forward to it, and it was awesome. Thanks.

i am having surgery on Nov 2nd... i was wondering if anyone will be there during that time getting surgery or a fill? my mom is going with me for support but i am more worried about her having someone to talk to than anything else.

I just got back from my first fill trip and I wanted to thank the people who posted helpful information about transportation. It was really easy, I took the 992 bus from the airport to the trolley station (American-something) and then took the trolley all the way to San Ysidro. I got really lucky and ran into a woman (Pammy from this board) who was also headed to Tijuana for a fill with Dr. Ortiz! We took the trolley and then a cab and it was a cinch. I took the trolley back to San Diego that afternoon and then spent the night at a motel in Hotel Circle. I really didn't feel like carrying my bag the 20 minutes from the motel to the trolley station, especially since it now contained a large bottle of mexican booze, so I called a shuttle service. I got their card from the lobby in the motel, and for $18 he took me from hotel circle (the Super 8 - classy, I know) to the airport. I thought that was a GREAT deal. If you want the name, let me know.
My fill was a good, but briefly painful experience. I am still glad I did it and look forward to hitting my goal weight a.s.a.p.

IT WAS REALLY HELPFUL FOR ME TO WATCH WITHOUT WONDERING ALL NIGHT HOW THIS ALL WORKS WHEN OUR TURN CAME THIS MORNING. (i let sandy go first after seeing your fill lol) SANDY ENDED UP WITH 1.8 AND MYSELF 2.0. ANOTHER GAL WE MET UP WITH LAST NIGHT IN THE BAR GOT 1.6 FOR HER FIRST FILL THIS MORNING.

I was just wondering cause besides babies I have never had anything major done and my surgery is now 2 weeks fro tommorow and I am VERY NERVOUS

When going out of the hotel if you turn lright and go to where the Aztec Indian is in the middle of the street and make a left, there is the grocery store. It is called Calimax and has many, many flavors. It is called Clight.. Also already made and sold most places is something called Belight which is the same thing..
The Pina Colada and Pink Grapefruit were some of my favorites. Each package makes a quart and a half and are only 38 cents each...

I was banded 5 days ago, the first 4 days were super easy. As long as I have popcicles, I am just fine. Today I received devistating news that my uncle passed away. My family is closeknit and it has hit hard.
The first thing I wanted to do was eat. All I thought about all day was food and how I wanted to eat this and that. I left work early (today was my first day back) came home and looked in the fridge a dozen times. I ate a few popcicles and slipped and ate a bit of peanut butter.
Right now I am miserable - I can't eat, it hurts to cry I'm generally exhausted and I don't know how to deal with it. How do most of you deal with emotional eating? I don't know how to, it just makes me more miserable

Just a thought...this contract....I bet means they are expecting a big gratuity. Which is usually on 12-20 dollar plates of food. I don't know about y'all, but I can hardly keep down soup after my first fill. I hope they don't think we are coming in and spending tons of money on food. LOL!

Haven't had the band yet so I can't speak to loosing fluid. Could you post contact information for Dr Neal? Also what did it cost for him to do the fill? I live in Gig Harbor so if there is someone within driving distance for fills I would like to conisder it.
