Christy26
Hey, I have been using mederma since surgery and honestly I cannot tell much difference. The tube says to use it 3-4 times a day and I honestly don't use it that much, usually just in the morning and at night, but I havent seen that much difference. Ive been doing this since I healed up after surgery. its been about 2 months. just wondering if anyone else had any luck with this product? The only scar cream that plastic surgeons recommend is the kind with silicone. I bought a lot of it, it's called Kelo-Cote. It's expensive. I have been using a little bit on an OLD leg scar and I can tell a little bit of difference (and I don't use it daily as I should). Or they have silicone sheets. I have that too but I am waiting til I have my tummy tuck and everything closes up before I try that....
nothereanymore
Yep, Karen is right - mine keeps telling me to buy the silicone strips that you put on scars. (I use other things as well, I'm a product junky....) Mederma is a topical for scars, its suppose to make the scars appear softer and smoother. thesuse
Hi there, I haven't been here for ages - hope all are well! I've used mederma (but not nearly as often as you're supposed to) since my surgery 9 months ago. My scars have gotten MUCH better as time has gone by, but of course I have no idea if the mederma made a difference or if they've just healed normally. The biggest one is the most visible, but very light. One of the others is very difficult to see - it always takes me a minute to find it to put on the mederma. My sister, who was banded the same day as me, has more noticeable scars, but our skin is fairly different - she's a bit darker/more olive than me, and she also has more sensitive skin. She hasn't used mederma. Who knows if it really helps, but I continue to use it in case it does. -Susan
JazzyJude
I've used Maderma for the first 3 months and as well, Vit E. I alternated between the two daily, but used Maderna either once or twice a day. My scars, especially the larger one where the port is, is very soft and smoothe. I stopped using the Maderma, as I don't need it anymore. After showering, I use the Bio Oil for an all over body massage. I do keelp a small water spray with a mix of the Bio Oil and water and when I feel 'dry', I would spray mist myself and rub it in. To me, it's a good thing, as I feel I am hydrating the outside with it and drinking a minimum of 8 glass of water a day. I've also use Maderma for my old scars and the same thing, not as visible it once was and there is no darken of the skin, just soft and subtle now. I guess it just depends on the person how it reacts. I haven't tried the strips that Karen and Lisa mentioned...not sure if it works on old or existing scars...but will check into it. Christy26
Thanks I will look into the strips. My smaller ones are very smooth and soft, and the larger one varies by day. Sometimes it feels smooth, other times it doesnt. its weird. Where do you get the strips?
SandraMinnesota
My plastic surgeon told me that stuff was expensive and unnecessary, because the RUBBING of the scar tissue is what caused the scar tissue to break down, not the product. Any old hand lotion should work the same, as long as you rub the scar frequently.
