my first fill! eeek

Recommended Posts

I'm a 17 year old girl and I got my surgery a few weeks ago. None of my friends know and its so hard keeping this a secret! I wish I could just tell them but I don't want the entire universe finding out, and in highschool, secrets get out. So far I've lost a good amount of weight, but now its not budging which is kind of annoying. I've been on diets since i was very young, like eight years old and because I'm so young my parents are constantly involved, it especially makes sense now cause they payed for the surgery. (Insurance wouldnt even consider me! :/) They're concerned that my weight is stuck, and we're thinking that it's because I just switched to solids. I have my first adjustment this thursday. Im so nervous! I was wondering if after I get this adjustment that i'll begin losing weight again? And/or whats the reason for my weight not budging?

Hello and congratulations to you on having the blessing of being able to be banded. I think you will do just fine if you want to lose the wieght more then you love the food. It is still a choice on becoming filled so that you are able to lose steadily, and staying filled to the right amount so you do not over eat. I have been having a problem with my son, who is 16 wanted to eat like crazy and not wanting to be filled properly in order to lose weight. It is sad to me, and I am disapointed in him not the band. You are a little older (he was banded at 15) and still a little immature for the procedure in my eyes. Good luck to you, and your new outlook on a better life all around.

its great hearing from other people my age! especially cause where i live everyone is raillll thin so no one undertands what im going through! im really happy i got this done. its been 4 weeks and i lost 20 pounds. its kind of easy keeping it from my friends. i just told them im watching my portions cause i want to loose weight, and for the week i dissapeared while recovering i said i wasnt feeling well. i had my frist fill today and its really odd. like you can litterally feel the water going down your throat, so im imagining going out to eat with my friends now its going to be a little bit more noticible that im not eating a lot. so im basicly just going with "im watching my portions cause i want to loose weight". also if the secret does get out, i dont think its the end of the world. lots of people do things to improve their appearance, like getting nose jobs, and breast implants, and im doing something that will not only boost my confindence/ make me look better, but will help my health :]

thanks for your responce. I got filled today and it wasn't bad like i thought it was going to be! I felt dumb cause i cried before and the nurse and my mom were like holding my hands haahha but the docter put a numbing shot in it and i felt nothing when he was filling it. I hope your son ends up going to get filled cause it was really easy :]

yeah i hear you. im probaby the only overweight girl in 12th grade in my hs, and i truly do not want to start college like this. im going to see a doctor about it on friday and hopefully ill be getting it done, ive only heard good things. what's like the hardest thing or worst part about having it?

yes that is true. and i was thinking that friends would understand even if i told them, but unfortunately that is not always the case in high school haha. and even if they didn't understand, who cares right? theres nothing wrong with bettering your own life.

hmm the hardest thing, im not gonna lie, is the liquid diets. like right after the surgery i was on liquids for 2 weeks and after my fill which was two days ago i had to have liquids again for two days (i get to eat tomorrow, woohoooo haha). sitting with my friends today while they ate was annoying. the thing is, if i were to go on another diet, i would be hungry trying to stay on it, with the band im not hungry physically just mentally my mind is like, "whhhyy arennnt you eating more!", im sure its only a matter of time till i get used to it though

thisisntobvious,

hello again. just to clarify. Kyle has been filled a number of times with no problems. He's not afraid or nervous about the needle. The problem is that he loves food so much more right now than wanting to get enough fill to slow down his eating. Thats the problem. You'll do just fine, as long as you have fills. Again, good luck and happy losing.

lmao yeah thats what i figured would be the worst, the liquid diets. but its worth it right? i guess for like 2 weeks youd probably be miserable like WHY DID I DO THISSS cause thats just what everyone goes through in the beginning, so i hear haha. and yeah i definitely know that annoyingness, but its just as bad, if not better than, sitting with them while youre on a DIET and you are feeling deprived and starving hah.

what do they even do to you when you get a fill?? ive been looking it up everywhere and i still dont really understand that whole process.

its definanntllyyy worth it!

although i was miserable in the food deparment, i was soo happy i did it, cause i knew this would be the last time id evverr have to start something to help me looseweight. yessss sitting with them when on a diet is SOOO much worse! i just sipped on some tea and it kept me full.

when getting a fill basicly theyre adjusting the band to decrease the amount of food intake. i layed down and the docter asked if i wanted numbing and i was like YES hhahahha. so he rubbed something on my stomach then injected the needle right where my band is inside my stomach and my mom was like thattss ittt ( i was freaking out about getting the shot, i mean a shot in your stomach is like weird area). and the docter was like no thats not it, that was the numbing. i was like ffffaaabbulouuss hahah. then he put the shot with the actual stuff that goes in the band to make it tighter and i didnt feel it at alll thanks to the numbing shot. then the docter was like "okay the shots in your stomach and im gonna have you sit up and drink some water" and i was like "WHAT?!" and he help me sit up. the nurse handed me a cup of water (meanwhile i could see this huge needle in my parifial vision) and told me to drink it. he wanted me to do this so he could see the right amount to fill in my band. i first sipped and it whent down reeallyyyy uncomfortably so he took a little out then i sipped again and it whent down slowly, lke i could feel it going down, but it was a good kind of slow so he left it at that. that was it, and i was basicly just being a big baby cause it didnt hurt hahah. if you didnt understand that cause that was a lot of rambling, let me know and ill clarify ahah

yeah dude if that's not the most motivating thought in the world then i dont know what is!! lol

ohhh i get it. see i thought they like go back into the port somehow and like surgically tighten it. haha no actually that was really helpful, its better to know like a personal account of the whole thing. i probably would have been quite terrified of it too lol. how did it go uncomfortably? like it hurt? i know its only been like a few days since you got it, but has it made any kind of difference or anything?

haahhah

hmm uncomortable like the feelings that you took too big of a bite of something and it goes down sllloowwwwwwwwww and yu can feel like a lump going down your throat. but when he took some out it whent down good, like i could feel it but it wasnt like sooo slowww and it wasnt uncomfortable. just took a couple days to get used to. it did make a difference. when they put the band in during the surgery, they barley put anything to fill the band. mostly its just the swelling and all that stuff that keeps you full. so once the swelling whent down i couldn't eat like i usedd to be able to, but i was eating more than expected i guess? so i was a little bit confused on how my stomach was the size of an egg. but then the docter explained that since i hadnt had my first fill yet, i wouldnt be getting full as fast. once i got the fill i got full realllyy fast. but its great cause its as satisfying as eating a big mean when i didnt have the band, cause with the band i get full.

Hello Girls,

I am a mother of two young children. I am waiting on my approval from my insurance. I understand about not telling people about the procedure. I have not told any of my co-workers. Believe it or not, some adults can't keep things to themselves. They can also be negative about self improvement. Or personal improvement period. I was over weight during my teen years as well. I wish they had something like this earlier, or I just did not know about it. Good luck on your journey. Much success to you both. Shaun

Thank you for explaining it so well! I have not heard an adult describe the whole procedure to a tee. Thank you for the motivation. Now, I am looking forward to having the procedure done. I was beginning to have doubts. Shaun
