Guidelines for surgery preparation....

Recommended Posts

Ok what are the guidelines for surgery preparation...

I heard Erin say she had to play frogger to get some polish remover...(LMAO! makes me laugh every time I say that)... So can we not have polish on our toes when we have surgery??

Can we have on make up when we have surgery?

Can some one clarify this for me please?

Nope and yup. Nail polish interferes with the heart monitor thingy on your finger so no fingernail polish. I had my toes done and it was no worries. Your toes are covered by those lovely surg sox!

No make-up either. Sawry doll!

The girls said it all ;) Also, no body lotion and in case of any piercings ... you'd have to take them out as well !

We had a lady on the day of surgery and oh boy, she had make-up on like she's on her way to a contest.

Needless to say, the OCC was not happy ....

I think it is mentioned in the paperweork you got from the OCC

Heyyy, it's only a few more days for you :D Can't wait to see you on the "other side" ><img src=<' />

Hi,

I was banded on the 13th and I had to remove my nose ring. As soon as I "woke up" I put it back in.

I did have make up on, but very, very light - tinted moisturizer and mascara - that's it and nothing was said.

Your day is almost here - good luck!

I knew I could depend on you guys!

Thanks!

So really no make up, no polish to be on the safe side and no piercings... That is my only concern is my nose ring... I have had it for years but never take it out, but when I do I could cry for real... It hurts so bad!

Hi,

My daughter has a nose ring so I know how much it hurts taking it out. My suggestions is to ask them to take it out once they put you to sleep and put it back on right before you come to. That should do the trick!

YAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!! Your almost there! Everyone has it right, you'll be wearing those horrible compression hose so your toes are fine. My friend and her daughter both had acrylic nails and they didn't say anything but she did take the polish off of them the night before surgery. No makeup which makes for HORRIBLE pictures! and no lotion especially on your tummy. But don't worry when you wake up your tummy will be coated with that lovely orange yellow iodine stuff so you won't even notice it! LOL!

I cannot stress how important it is to have COMFORTABLE clothes for the rest of your trip after surgery! My stomach is still swollen and I can just barely button up my jeans today and even if I do it is not the best feeling.

And don't forget to bring the boullion cubes, it will save you $6.00 a bowl for broth.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!! I'm excited for you!

Hey Erin,

I read about your first part but didn't get the rest... How did it go? I have lost 8 lbs but started that pesky monthly thing and not sure how I will fare at the scales when I get there next week. SO I am afraid they will tell me to go home.. What did they tell you? How are you feeling?... Could you go shopping after? Thanks XO Lisa :0

Hey Lisa,

Dr. Miranda told me that I could only eat a chicken breast as my final meal before surgery, that was all. I was able to shop but not much, I only stayed out about an hour before catching a taxi back to the hotel.

I'm feeling better now, I still have some bouts of nausea...not really sure if it is just an after effect of the anesthesia or if it is just from the drastic change in my diet.

Good luck with your surgery! I was a nervous wreck before mine but now I know I was worried for nothing! You guys will do fine and be sure to let us know how it goes!

I brought a lot of cotton pants and t-shirts and was sooooooo glad that I did. Here's what my suitcase had in it:

tshirts

cotton pants

undies

bras

comfortable sleep clothes (PJ's)

makeup (didn't wear it until after surgery though)

boullion cubes

gas x / phayzime

pill crusher / cutter (not sure if you'll need this but I had a few meds I needed to take)

brush

pony tail holder

shampoo / conditioner (the hotel does provide this but I like my own)

razor

Slip on shoes (You'll want to wear these after surgery)

I think that is everything..... I brought about $200 cash and spent every penny of it between tiping and shopping, wish I would have brought another $100 but you won't need it if you do not plan on going shopping. We met the other people scheduled to be banded and hung out with one of them the whole time we were there pretty much, be careful if you do not hook up with someone. Try not to go to many places alone. Enjoy your trip!

Erin your the greatest!

I think that I got everything on your list. I think I am just going to leave my make up at home.. I am going to take just a carry on since I have stops between here and San Diego and dont want to risk the chance of my luggage getting lost.. That is my luck!

I went yesterday and got $200 in cash to do some shopping, and since I am only bringing a carry on I wont have much room for alot of thing but I am going to pack super light, but imma shop though baby! :P

Do you think I need to bring a robe or anything or can I just put my jammies on at the hospital..

I am meeting Mammaof2wins (Celia) there.. We are getting banded the same day, and her mom is coming with her so I have pretty much adopted her and her mom as my peoples while I am there.. We will be together pretty much the whole time.. HUH CELIA??? lol

Ohh yeah Erin one more question... I read about people saying to wear sports bar instead of a bra that has underwire.. Should I pack some sports bars too?

Absolutely pack a sports bra. I'm only now (banded on the 9th) back in underwire.

I had to wear the tops with the built in bra, one of the incisions was right on the bra line, the tank tops with the bras built in don't fit as tight and I found them quit comfy. Im 6 weeks post op, and I still find that a regular bra rubs.

Haha! I just logged back in to tell you that.... My husband noticed last night that the incision right where my bra lays is getting puffed up and irritated because my bra lays right on it. I'm going to buy some sports bras today....So yes definitley get some sports bras.

Yes, the pain medicine they give you will help you sleep. They will also send you home with 4 of these that will help you sleep. If that still doesn't work or if you feel like you need something more you may want to see your family doctor for a prescription.
