what to bring for first few days after surgery?

Less than 2 weeks till surgery and I'm trying to get everything set to take with me. How much do I need to bring to drink for two days after surgery? Dr Miranda told me what I could have but not how much and I hate to keep bothering her. I have a 5-7 hour drive home and don't want to get dehydrated. With everything I read about what's happening in Tijuana I don't want to have to send my daughter hunting for anything for me.

Thank you all for posting...I've learned more from reading your post than I did at a seminar I went to.

I recommend taking 8 ounces for every 1 hour. That may be too much for you to do but it is what was recommended to me. If you just sip on it you usually can get it in. Now driving in a car though this much may make you have to stop every hour for a pee break so use your own judgement. If you are just riding in a car you won't get dehydrated if you just sip something and don't overdo it. Just take the packets of special K protein water and some crystal light to add to water bottles and you"ll do fine. Also bouillon cubes or packets to add to hot water from the coffee pot in your room. There are several lists of what to take, I believe one is in the questions section. Type in pre-op and it should come up. Hope this helps.

Now to address your concerns about TJ...The area around the hotel is very safe. Many little stores and shops within walking distance. You should feel well enough to accompany your daughter anywhere she walks.

Hi, thanks for the info. I did read the post but needed to know how much to bring with me so as not to run out. Did I read somewhere we should be drinking gatorade, also. How many a day? I hate water so I only drink the calorie free flavored stuff...I guess that is OK since I haven't read different. This site is a life saver. It helped me make up my mind to do this even though it's put a huge dent in our savings. I didn't want to wait two more years till Medicare would pay for it. My legs and feet won't last that long.

You have about the same BMI as I do so I it makes me feel better that I can do this too. At WW I didn't feel like they had a clue. The ladies at the desk were great but they only had to lose 20 pounds to become lifetime members. I had 150 to lose so how could they have a clue what it was like for me? Even the leader who is a friend only lost 50.... she thinks I'm making a mistake but hasn't walked a mile in my shoes.

Thanks again.

Pam

Do not let anyone discourage you from doing this who hasn't been where you are. You are right about walking a mile in your shoes, people just don't understand. Yes it costs alot but I try to think this money spent now will help me to not have to spend a bunch more money later because of all the issues around being too fat, especially health care costs!! Glad you feel encouraged. Have you booked your date? I wish you well and just ask anything if you need it.

Hi Julie,

How could I not be encouraged after reading all the post and seeing the photos. My date is 7/21 and there will be at least one other person I've met on the forum being done that day.

I'm not looking forward to July in Mexico but it will be normal for my daughter who lives in Tucson. I live on the CA central coast so it's cool here. I've been in touch with a Dr in Ventura who will do my fills but I will go back to Tijuana for my first one. With the cost of gas and hotel room it's about the same and 10-12 hours less driving.

Here is the quote they gave me... also if I need an adjustment within 30 days of a fill...it's free.

" Thanks for contacting us. Dr. Billy does take on outside patients. The price for a consultation with band adjustment is $300.00 that does include your first 2 visits with Fills. After the initial 2 the price per visit is $150.00 each. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. "

This solved one of my problems...now to just keep losing weight till the surgery. I've lost 9 pounds already. One more question...how many chewable kids vitamins does it take to equal an adult dose? Do you know or what do you take? OK...make that 2 more...how do you add all that stuff like the tracker and pix to the forum?

Yes, take gatorade, that is very important!!!!! The doctors wanted me to drink 3 gatorades and 3 diluted apple juices a day, in addition to sipping constantly.

And about the weather, it's weird. I have been there in March, May and June and all 3 times the weather has been a perfect 70's. One time, a week before I got there, it was in the high 90's, but I think that was a fluke. I actually did some research on the their weather and September is considered the hottest. Go to weather.com the day you are ready to pack and you can see the 10 day on there.
