Don't feel any different

Recommended Posts

It's been a while since I have been on here. Need to know if anyone else feels different. I was banded on March 24 of this year, met Mona while there we were banded on the same day. I have thus far lost 50 pounds, but to me I don't see it. I do feel better my clothes are fitting really funny now. Really loose, went from a 32 down to a 24 still have way more to go, but like I said I can't tell. I look in the mirror and still see me, fat face and all. My mom came to visit over the month of June and couldn't believe the weight loss, a lot of people have commented, but still it's just me. Don't want anyone to get down because of this, just want to know if anyone else feels the same way. Loose the weight, but still see the same old person in the mirror.

I know exactly what you mean!

I was debating whether or not to post my one month post op pics today, because I really didn't see a difference.

But when you look at yourself everyday, you tend to see the same old person and don't really notice the changes, others will though!

I notice my double chin is going away, but I can't really tell anywhere else...but my hubby can see a difference in my butt.

I think we tend to look at ourselves as always heavy even though we are shrinking....it's your mind's eye taking over the mirror.

You are doing fabulous, post some before and during pics and I know we would definitely see a difference!!!

Bobbi!!!!!! So glad to hear from you, I have missed you!!!!!

50 pounds, wow - you are awesome!!!!!!!!!! That is really fantastic!

I do think that if you have been heavy for a while, you rmind gets used to it and doesn't see the differences. But you will. YOur mind just needs to catch up. I only lost 30 and don't see anything but my pants suddenyl got bigger. I think a lot of us kind of go through the same things. But I bet any day now, you'll see for yourself!!

Hows the hubby? Say hi to him for us, ok? And stick around some, I miss hearing from you!

Congrats - that's awesome - I use to look at weight loss in 50 bags of dog food - then I'd get a true feeling of what I really lost. When I'm in Costco (and mind you I don't have big dogs anymore - little yorkies) I'll pick up the bag and give it a look - really puts your weight loss in perspective.

Never thought of looking at it that way. 50 pounds of dog food is a lot. Mona, Larry says hi. He is doing great. We often think of you two, it was such a great time in TJ. My Mom told me it was time to move on to a smaller size of clothing, but money is tight right now. Just had to buy some new pants, can't get caught in public with them falling down. I read about the Craptastic Club and do believe I fall into that catagory with 6 cats and a giant cat litter box, scrapping poo every few days to keep it clean.

I have pictures of my self and have tried to download them into an album with now success, will have to wait for my Computer expert (daughter) to help me. There is a album with my name on it in the gallery under Bobbi.

I'm telling you girls we need to start a clothes club - we are all going to go broke trying to keep up with our changing bodies (I did). I'm hoping I don't get any smaller because if I do my husband is going to leave me.

I already donated my 22 and down and now all I have left are 8s and 10s I need to get rid of. Why don't we start a play it forward clothes club??

I'm mentioned this before and no one jumped on the band - but anyone ready now? Its like $10 bucks to ship a big box of clothes ground.

I’d do it if someone wants my 8s and 10s and I know we have sisters out there who have some other sizes. Better than sitting in our closet looking like we might get back into them someday -(and on that note I said no way and cleared out any clothes as soon as they didn't fit - those days are over and never coming back - I'll go buck naked)!

If I were only that close in the size I would take them, But still have a ways to go.

YOu can e-mail the pics to me and I'll post them for you if you want. Ramona29@rcn.com

Oh, and try e-bay for clothes or thrift shops. There a lot of things my sister got on e-bay for like $5.

Would be a great idea, but I am still in 26. Only had 3 blouses that got too big and gave them to a local girl who needed some. I think my stuff is still too big for anyone here.

You'll be there before you know it - it happens fast! (Trust me on this one) I'll save them for you - I'm a bit of a clothes horse and since I work in an office setting where I have to dress up at times - but love casual I have a lot of everything! And I hardly wore most of them - once you start moving you can loose sizes in a couple of weeks - 10's went buy so fast for me that I have some pants I've never worn! Cute Liz Claiborne!!

I believe you are suffering from something very common, it is called something like bodydismorphism. It happens alot when people have severe eating dissorders they can't see how they really look. Their mind won't let him. My mom has lost 170lbs with the band and she still see's herself as a large woman at certain times. It is normal, some people to to a specialist to get help with this....

Best of luck.

I was just thinking about a clothing exchange. I bought a pair of shorts 3 weeks ago, and they are already to small. I'd rather pass them on to someone who can use them, instead of giving them away. Let's get it started again!!!

I think my stuff might be too big for most people here, since I am a big gal, but if anyone needs some 3x shirts, I have a couple. They are button down casual type blouses.

Hopefully, I will have more soon.

And Bobbi, I can get you some stuff from my sister, she is dropping weight and probably has 24's yet. You did say 24, right? How about top size? She probably has those too. She just got down to 18/20. I'll talk to her.

Let me know what type of stuff you wear and hopefully she has some.

I have so many clothes that are in different sizes that have tags still on them. Name brand clothes that are really nice. Michelle I think it would be a good idea to repost the clothing exchange topic.

PS - I have tons of size 10

Bobbi & KittyCat ~ you both need to post your updated pictures, and yes it will be very noticeable to everyone except for you. You look at yourself everyday. 50 pounds is a huge difference. Keep up the great work! Can wait to see the progress pics! :cheerleader:

Hi All:

I have tons of 16's-20's; I live in Atlanta, say the word and I will send them, I am tall, 5'9" so a lot of my clothes are tall, I work in a law firm so I have both casual and dress. I know there are many bandsters in this area, just let me know!

I have lost a hundred pounds 3 times, and each time, I would look in the mirror and still see the same ole me. Even when people gasped with surprise and delight, I kinda just thought they were exaggerating.

Obesity not only kills your body, but your self-confidence. I wish I could say that your perception will change, but you will have to trust the scale, measuring tape, and friends and family. This issue is really no different than a slim girl looking in a mirror and perceiving herself as fat... thus becoming anorexic.

Take a picture of yourself and tape it to your mirror. Pictures never lie or exaggerate.

I completely agree with Paula (she is soooo wise!). When I look in the mirror I see all the flaws and never any progress. Even knowing that I have lost over a hundred (since highest) pounds, I still just cant wrap my head around it. I have friends that make silly comments to me like "skinny minny" etc. and I actually get mad cause my mind weighs 318 pounds.

Because of my mindset, my cousin made a picture. She took a full body shot photo from April 2007, put it side-by-side with a full body shot taken April 2008. I was down 80 pounds since surgery (103lbs since highest). She printed it so that I could have something physically in my hand to show what progress I've made. I now keep this in my purse and take a peek now and then. I also show this to people that I haven't seen in a while or those that learn of my surgery and never knew how fat I was.

I have to admit, I struggle with this everyday. Receiving compliments on my physical appearance is just so hard. I hope they are not exaggerating and that some day my self-confidence (AND YOURS) will improve.

Bobbi~

There is a funny cartoon I saw in the comic section...picture this....a beautiful, thin, curvy, blond bombshell in a tiny, cute bikini....she looks at herself in the mirror and sees, a FAT, FRUMPY, woman, instead of the beautiful woman she really is.

Next to her is her a man....he is chubby, pot bellied, and hairy (excessively for comic relief)...posing in some Hulk Hogan Wrestle Mainia (sp?) kind of way. He interprets his reflection as some muscled, beefy, sexy, irresistible, gift to women.

My point...well its simple...we do not see ourselves as we really are...but rather as we are conditioned to see ourselves. You are beautiful...size 24 or 32! Now that your are sliming way down....YOU GO GIRL....tell yourself each day, no matter if you believe it to be true or not, DO IT ANYWAY, tell yourself each day what you like about yourself in the mirror. You will...start to believe it...and then you will notice more and more things that you like about yourself and your body!

This is hard for us women! This is hard for me! But we CAN make a mental change about ourselves!

YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! AND LOOKING OH SO GOOD!

:D :D :D
