    Hi Shannon,

How goes the pre-op diet? I've lost 11 so far and hoping for a few more gone this week. Are you arriving on the 20th?

great pix of all of the posters...you are all so young...My kids are older than most of you but...it's never to late to turn your life around. Thanks for all the support.

  2. This year has been a memorable year, Jenn and Cassie on the Oprah show, The Lapband Forum has its largest gain in members and people have been making the big decision in their lifes by having lap band surgery. Lori and Carolyn have been busy booking surgeries and a lot of them will be coming to the OCC in July. Meet your bandster buddy here at the forum and get to know them before you get to the OCC. So, lets hear from the July surgery and fill patients.

My band date is 7/21 and I will be a basket case before then. Everyone keeps asking if I'm scared to do it...I tell them my only fear is they will find something wrong with me I didn't know about and not do the surgery. Lap band is my last hope for getting the weight off for good and and taking the load off my feet and knees. Without it I will be using a scooter in a few years to get around.

  3. I am a 45 yr old female. I am 5' 9'' and I weigh 290 lbs. I have been up and down with my weight for over 20 years. I have tried every diet known to man. I will lose weight and do great for a while and then I gain it back plus more.

What makes this diet better than all the rest? How is this diet going to work for me?

    I am desperate?

    Hi Grammy,

I am 5' 7" and highest weight was 297. I think you should listen to the people on this forum. I did and will be banded in 11 days. I'm 63 so you are never to old to make things better. I was just on WW for 2 years and only lost 37 pounds and gained back 20 when I stopped 6 months ago. At the rate I was losing I figured it would take another 8 years and it depressed me so much I started eating and gaining again. That is what made my decision for me. I can deal with 2 years to lose the weight...not ten. My knees weren't going to hold out that long, either. Contact the center and they will send you all the info you need. The forum will be here to support you. You are not alone.

  4. Do not let anyone discourage you from doing this who hasn't been where you are. You are right about walking a mile in your shoes, people just don't understand. Yes it costs alot but I try to think this money spent now will help me to not have to spend a bunch more money later because of all the issues around being too fat, especially health care costs!! Glad you feel encouraged. Have you booked your date? I wish you well and just ask anything if you need it.

    Hi Julie,

How could I not be encouraged after reading all the post and seeing the photos. My date is 7/21 and there will be at least one other person I've met on the forum being done that day.

I'm not looking forward to July in Mexico but it will be normal for my daughter who lives in Tucson. I live on the CA central coast so it's cool here. I've been in touch with a Dr in Ventura who will do my fills but I will go back to Tijuana for my first one. With the cost of gas and hotel room it's about the same and 10-12 hours less driving.

Here is the quote they gave me... also if I need an adjustment within 30 days of a fill...it's free.

" Thanks for contacting us. Dr. Billy does take on outside patients. The price for a consultation with band adjustment is $300.00 that does include your first 2 visits with Fills. After the initial 2 the price per visit is $150.00 each. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. "

This solved one of my problems...now to just keep losing weight till the surgery. I've lost 9 pounds already. One more question...how many chewable kids vitamins does it take to equal an adult dose? Do you know or what do you take? OK...make that 2 more...how do you add all that stuff like the tracker and pix to the forum?

  5. I recommend taking 8 ounces for every 1 hour. That may be too much for you to do but it is what was recommended to me. If you just sip on it you usually can get it in. Now driving in a car though this much may make you have to stop every hour for a pee break so use your own judgement. If you are just riding in a car you won't get dehydrated if you just sip something and don't overdo it. Just take the packets of special K protein water and some crystal light to add to water bottles and you"ll do fine. Also bouillon cubes or packets to add to hot water from the coffee pot in your room. There are several lists of what to take, I believe one is in the questions section. Type in pre-op and it should come up. Hope this helps.

Now to address your concerns about TJ...The area around the hotel is very safe. Many little stores and shops within walking distance. You should feel well enough to accompany your daughter anywhere she walks.

Hi, thanks for the info. I did read the post but needed to know how much to bring with me so as not to run out. Did I read somewhere we should be drinking gatorade, also. How many a day? I hate water so I only drink the calorie free flavored stuff...I guess that is OK since I haven't read different. This site is a life saver. It helped me make up my mind to do this even though it's put a huge dent in our savings. I didn't want to wait two more years till Medicare would pay for it. My legs and feet won't last that long.

You have about the same BMI as I do so I it makes me feel better that I can do this too. At WW I didn't feel like they had a clue. The ladies at the desk were great but they only had to lose 20 pounds to become lifetime members. I had 150 to lose so how could they have a clue what it was like for me? Even the leader who is a friend only lost 50.... she thinks I'm making a mistake but hasn't walked a mile in my shoes.

    Thanks again.

  6. Less than 2 weeks till surgery and I'm trying to get everything set to take with me. How much do I need to bring to drink for two days after surgery? Dr Miranda told me what I could have but not how much and I hate to keep bothering her. I have a 5-7 hour drive home and don't want to get dehydrated. With everything I read about what's happening in Tijuana I don't want to have to send my daughter hunting for anything for me.

Thank you all for posting...I've learned more from reading your post than I did at a seminar I went to.

  7. Hi, I start dieting tomorrow and am having surgery on 7/21. Were all of you as nervous about this as I am? I think I've heard every horror story about Mexico there is in the last few weeks. I need to lose 130 pounds at least. Most of you look young...I am 63 and have arthritis in my feet, knees, etc.

Does age make a difference in how much and how fast you lose? Every question I think of triggers another one. I also have never used a forum before so if I mess up please be let me know. Thanks for being here. I've been reading your post and they have helped a lot.
