  1. Is there any liquids that should remain a NO even though they are liquids? (Ex: carbonated drinks)

ex: I had really bad heart burn and because I can not take a pill for it, I went with a small spoon of ice cream just to stop the burning... low and behold I got the "IS THAT ALLOWED?" speech.

I figured as long as it melted before it hit my stomach I was ok with a simple spoonful.

this all being said: are there any NO NO foods us Post-op dieters should be aware of?

I was having heart burn problems. On one of my doctor's visits, I mentioned it to my doctor. She suggested Prilosec and gave me a Rx for the generic. It is so inexpensive with the generic. It has worked miracles. It takes a couple of weeks to really kick in, even though you will get relief sooner than that.

    (The capsules are very tiny)

    Good Luck

  2. Jen,

This really isn't like a hospital. It is a clinic. As I remember it there aren't any amenities. I flew down by myself, but there were others that had a mother with them. The clinic is really good about having their driver taking them back to the hotel while you are having surgery or later in the day. The Lucerna, where I stayed has a really nice cafe/restaurant that she could have a bite to eat. A very large lobby if she just wanted to brouse and watch people. lol Maybe others on here will have more first hand knowledge of what is available for the extra companion that travels with you.

    Good Luck,

    Anne

  3. I haven't bought my airline ticket yet, but I am hoping to get a fluro August 26th. I have just felt lately that something may be wrong and I want to have it checked out by the professionals at OCC. I have no clue of where to get a fluro around here. Someone on the Forum mentioned Marysville, WA. By the time I spent the money to go up there, I might as well fly to TJ.

  4. I love this forum. We are all so alike. First of all, I mentioned the calcium/Vitamin D that I found and am taking. I gave you the wrong name, the correct name is "Viactiv". They contain 500mg of Calcium and 125% Daily Value of Vitamin D. I was told to take them 3 times a day.

As to the blood test - Every year when I have a physical my doctor does lab tests on me. Maybe it depends on age, but I don't think so. I have been having them for quite a few years.

  5. Okay, this is quite a coincidence! I just had an appointment Wednesday to go over my blood work. I am low in Calcium and Vit D. My doctor told me that I need to take 600mg a day of C & D. Well, here is the good news. I went to the grocery store and scanned the vitamins. The last thing I want to take is another pill. Low and behold there is something called "Vita Chews" they are calcium and D. They are only 500mg. But they are chewy chocolate pieces that taste delicious. They also come in a few different flavors. I have been told to take C & D three times a day. It will be interesting to see what your doctor says.

  6. Maggie, What an inspiration you are. You haven't given up even though you have definitely had some problems. You do show us that there isn't an excuse to totally quit. I imagine it was hard to get back on the program.

I do find that the days that I don't drink the water are some of the days that I don't lose, and also when I soft food. Soft foods go down so easy I also don't get full very fast.

Glad you are back. You now have a totally new topic to share about your struggles and how it made you feel to be off the program and now back.

  7. I have to tell you. I was feeling sorry for myself because I waited so long to do something so wonderful for myself. I read the posts from the younger women and wish that I had been so savvy to have done something when I was younger. I am 55 and soon to be 56. Losing wait has made me feel younger. I have more energy to play with the grandkids. I don't mind being around people. I have never been to a class reunion, I was too ashamed of myself. My 40th class reunion will be in 2011 and I sure hope they have one.

Once we get to this point of wanting to lose that fat, I feel that nothing is going to stop us. Just a few days ago my doctor asked me if I had any kind of a support group. I told her about this forum and how much it has helped me to see that we all go through a lot of the same experiences.

Good luck with your band. It is so worth it.

  8. Like everyone has already said on here, and I want to add. What a great post!

I know that there are the male bandsters out there but right now I feel a connection with "Sisterhood Bandsters". I get this awesome feeling when I look at where we have all started and how far we have come. Just like you mentioned, holding back from group activities and family gatherings were very the norm for me. Inside I wanted to be a part.

On one of the posts that I read on here, one of the non-scale victories was being able to wrap a towel around oneself. I love how we all have experienced some of the same daily life experiences. Please keep writing.

  9. I have lost hair and it scares me. I like Brandnewdawn have fine hair. I have lost on top above my forhead. I started taking biotin from the beginning and I do eat high proteins. Today I have already had 54grams. Hopefully, (and I keep watching) my hair will grow back!

By the way Clynn, I think I must have had some sort of virus. It lasted for over a week. As of today I feel great. I am though planning a trip to TJ just to make sure everything is Okay. Thank you very much for your input.

  10. OH my gosh Anne ~ is that you? YOU LOOK FANTASTIC girl!!!! I LOVE your new picture!

OK...got side tracked! Clynn may be right on this. But do call OCC for reassurance and to get this taken care of. I am concern of the fact that it is only when you lay down? Are you eating late at night? Are you stressed? What was the last thing you were eating/drinking? Guess what I am asking is what really trigger this on to you? Try any new food/drinks that may not agree with you? Did this recently happended, for the first time, and not before this issue?

I've noticed the past couple of weeks, that I am tight and it's a 'day to day' case with me as to what I can and can't have. Even drinking water had me clogged up in my throat region. I was guessing I was stressed out. I lay low for a bit and started over again and was able to drink water. So, I' basically started the 5-day pouch test and it's helping me. I figured, if it didn't, then OCC was going to get a call from me. BUT, I've haven't thrown up or anything...just the tight/clogged feeling only.

Let us know how you are doing!

    Best to you...Jazzy!!

By the way, Thanks for the compliments!

  11. Thank you both for responding.

My latest fill was in April. This was my third fill. In the last 3 or so weeks I was beginning to feel like I needed a fill. I could have eaten anything. Just not a large amount.

I have had the experience of PB'ing when I have eaten too fast or something gets stuck. I cannot remember for the life of me what I ate Friday. But that night when I would just fall asleep, coughing would start and I would immediately uncontrollably have to grab something to catch it. I guess it is more like liquids. Anyway, that would go on all night. Saturday wasn't too much better except I realized that if I didn't lay down flat I didn't to the PB'ing.

There never was a lot like when someone would vomit. Yuk. Sorry.

I have finally been able to get some liquids down today. Yesterday I had a cream soup and jello and that worked. I guess I will go back to the week of liquids and see what happens.

It was very scary. I felt that something must have happened to my band.

Where I get my fills they do not have fluro. For my peace of mind, I may have to make a journey to OCC.

    P.S. I have 1.9cc in a 4cc band.

  12. For the last two nights I have been throwing up about 20 minutes after I fall asleep. It continues all through the night. I was having trouble with things getting stuck in my throat (or so I thought) and thought that maybe it was acid reflux. I bought prilosec and it seemed to work for 4 or 5 nights. Yesterday and today I have not been hardly able to get liquids down without problems. I was banded Dec. 15th, 2009. by Dr. Ortiz. I have lost 74lbs to date. I must say that I am worried that something is majorly wrong. I live in a very rural area. My family doctor knows that I have the lapband, but he also said that he is not educated in this procedure.

I have a very blocked feeling in my throat and a burning. I have had 3 fills since my surgery. The first fill was at the OCC, the last 2 have been with a nurse practioner in Lewiston, Idaho. They do not have fluro. I live in Enterprise, Oregon. What should I do? Is this something that I should come back to the OCC for? Is the surgery very expensive and/or can it be done at this time.

I am very miserable and do not enjoy going to sleep. It seems that the minute I go to sleep I start throwing up and it last all through the night. I have been worried that this would cause my band to slip. I work full time and do not know what to do about this and the lack of sleep. I did not eat anything today because it is so miserable to do so. During the night last night I tried to drink chicken broth, but it too came up.

I have experience the PB'ing. This is not that at all, at least I do not think so.

Also, financially would this be as expensive to have it taken care of? Would it be available to me the same day if I flew down?

Thank you so much for your help.

    I love my lap band.

    Sincerely,

    Anne Melville

  13. Sarah, CONGRATULATIONS! CONGRATULATIONS! HOW EXCITING FOR YOU. BEING PREGNANT AND HAVING BABIES WERE SOME OF THE BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE. THE YEARS FLY BY, MAY YOU TAKE EACH DAY AND SAVOR THE MOMENTS WITH JOY!

YOU WILL DO FINE WITH YOUR WEIGHT WITH ALL THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY LEARNED ABOUT EATING. DO NOT LET THE MENTAL HUNGER TAKE OVER AT THIS TIME.

    GOD BLESS, ANNE :lb21:

  14. I don't know about you guys, but sometimes it is so therapeutic to read everyone's experiences. :) It brings a smile to the face just knowing that some of these odd things happening to us are normal (?)

I had the experience of PB'ing on the way to get my hair done. That happened to be my first experience while driving and I hope the last in that situation. What a mess and embarrassment! I have never thought to carry baggies, but I sure will now.

Where I get my fills, she told me to just go ahead and go to the bathroom and stick you finger down your throat when you are obviously stuck. She said you might as well get it over with. Just don't abuse this method.

  15. For 2 or 3 weeks I too have really struggling. What am I saying! I have fallen off of the band wagon! Each morning I tell myself that today is a new day. If I have a protein bar, I later have another one. My servings are too big and I know it. Sunday I had 3 pieces of banana bread. On and on and on. I have done so well up to this point and like Valley Girl. I have thought just later am I going to fail at this too? Before I had my surgery, my sister said that she didn't know why I was having this done because nothing else has ever worked for me. I have lost my determination to conquer this. I have gained 5lbs in the last 2 weeks. YIKES!
