  1. Hi Kristy, it was great meeting you too. Sometime down the line, I think it would be neat if all of us met for a lap renuion. Somewhere between all of us. What do you guys think? Well, I guess we will wait and see. Hope you had a great night. Maybe I will see you tomorrow if you go shopping too.
  2. Hi everyone! Well I was banded today at the OCC. You may recall I sent a post out regarding the violence in TJ. Well, I decided to come anyway. We arrived yesterday at the Lucerna after being picked up by Carlos, the driver. I had my pic taken, got an EKG and spoke to Dr. Miranda regarding nutrition & goal wt. The goal wt really suprised me. I was told to be between 170's-180's. That still sounds pretty high. I then was told I can go lower but w/exercise. I was told I would have my blood wk done tomorrow (but they never drew it? . We were picked up by the driver at 7 am. I was then taken into the back, had an IV inserted and given clothes to change into. The anesthesiologist came in & explained what was gonna happen. They stated that they were going to use propofol& fentanyl for sedation (great drugs), & succs to paralyze (common when you go under anesthesia.) I was given an antibiotic, zofran (anti-emetic), and dramamine (if you have a tendency to get motion sickness). I then met the docs and was taken to the OR. My case took around a 1/2 hr. I have been sleeping on & off. The gas isnt too bad but my incision sites hurt since my stomach is distended. I asked for pain medicine. They didnt want to give it to me. They said I need to walk (even though I already had been). I tried to explain the pain was incisional. Well after some convincing, they gave me something which they said was pain medicine. I could swear it was just saline (it didnt even touch me)! I am a trauma nurse & know what some docs do. Anyway, well, I am walking & walking. The staff is great here though. I was told I was going to go back to the hotel first thing in the morning. I hope to go shopping after. You know whats weird is I feel like im hungry, but then I know im not. I have had a popsicle & 1 capri sun. I orginally started to gain wt because I became an emotional eater. I would eat when I was stressed, angry, anxious & bored! Well, I am very bored right now! I look forward to going home. My mom & husband have been wonderful! The hotel charged us an extra $50 or so to bring the extra person. Anyway, I am sooo excited about this new chapter in my life. I wish everyone the best and for any one that is planning to get banded, this place is great!
  3. Can you please post his contact info. Thanks!
  4. Hi everyone. Well, I got home from wk last night and checked the news online. I was shocked w/ the story about the violence in TJ this weekend. They found 9 bodies beheaded in a vacant lot, and 23 deaths over the weekend. A man was throwing grenades into a crowd? A gunman killed a 4 year old in a grocery store???!!! I know there is violence everywhere, but I am flying out tomorrow morning since I get banded on Wed. I must say, I am a little freaked out! Can anybody tell me if TJ is truely that violent? Do I need to stay just in the hotel? I was looking forward to going shopping. I think that idea is out the door now. Please message back especially if you have been there recently. Thanks!
  5. Thanks guys... I guess I can stop worrying about it
  6. Hi! Congrats on your surgery. Since your there right now, can you please tell me how the weather is? Trying to figure out what to pack since Im flying there on tuesday.
  7. Hello Everyone. I am scheduled to be banded next wk- Dec 3rd. Unfortunately, it is around the time of the dreaded monthly curse. Since I tend to retain water around that time, does anyone know if that may cause any issues like, sizing or anything with the band? When you get the band placed, it is not filled at all, right? And if I am retaining water, will the band be looser afterwards? I cant stop thinking about it!
  8. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone...Just a note of what I am thankful for today... This wonderful forum and my soon to be lap-band! Gobble, Gobble
  9. Hi Guys, Happy Thanksgiving! I just had a couple of questions about going to OCC for your first fill. What is the charge for them to pick you up from the airport? And how much is it to stay at the lucerna for the night after a fill? Lastly, am I reading right that when you go for your first fill 6-8wks after surgery, you never get a fill and therefore, no restriction? If anyone can clear that up for me, I would really appreciate it! Thanks again & gobble, gobble
  10. Hi Everyone...My name is Sarah. I first heard about Dr. Ortiz on the show "The Doctors" about 2 wks ago and I immediately decided that I am going to get banded (my main motive is that I hope by loosing wt, My husband and I will hopefull, finally, be able to conceive). My surgery date is Dec 3rd and I am very excited. I have been reading thru all your postings for the past wk, and you guys seem soo supportive & wonderful. It's been such a relief to find this site. I am a trauma ICU nurse. I havent told any of my friends at wk about having the surgery. We occassionally get patients that have had gastric bypass surgery and get really sick and are admitted into our unit. And, I always hear comments from the other nurses that you have to be a certain type of person & or have some major emotional/mental issues to have such a surgery. And I stand there thinking to myself, that no, its HARD to lose wt. Of coarse, with almost all of them being easily less than 150 lbs & have at least 1 child, how could they possibly understand what those patients or soon to be, me go thru? Therefore, unfortanately, I havent felt comfortable enough to share my exciting news with any of them. Therefore, I look forward to getting your support in the days to come. Can anyone tell me that has been to TJ recently, what the weather was like? Also, I was wondering on the day of surgery, the person that comes with you, do they go back to the hotel or do they stay at the hospital with you overnight? Do the drivers at the center give them a ride back to the hotel? How long of a drive is it from the center to the hotel?Look forward to reading any replys!
