  1. I know that fibrous vegetables are not workable at all after surgery because they can become trapped in the stoma created during the installment of the lapband. Sweet potatoes, celery, asparagus, corn, dried fruit, oranges are some of those foods, as well as popcorn, fruits with seeds, tomatoes, sesame seeds. Did I miss anything?

There is a list of foods you'll be introduced to slowly, after your lapband surgery.

    Please review it carefully.

As for after the liquid, and mush phase, I eat all of the foods you listed.

Minus popcorn (no real nutritional value).

I don't eat bread of any kind, as it's very uncomfortable.

  2. thank you for updating me. I appreciate someone answering. Is it possible that one of the procedures normally discussed on here can be done as a revision for my surgery?

I do know there are members in this forum, who have had surgery revisions .. but it would be best if you contacted the OCC directly, to get this advise from a professional.

Why would you want a revision on your surgery? Can gastric bypass surgery be 'undone'?

(i really know very little about it)

In all, the surgery is only as successful as your eating habits are clean, and your motivation .. boo to that! ;)

  3. Diet is 80%. Exercise is the other 20%.

I always keep this in mind, when I get 'stuck'.

I also keep off the scale. This is a poor gauge of progress short term.

If there's a time period where things aren't moving as quickly as you'd like, changing up your exercise routine (adding more HIIT cardio, at least 30min a day), and your weight routine & eating 100% CLEAN ALL THE TIME usually does the trick.

  4. I had my RNY 9 years ago. I have since gained 75% of my weight back. Looking for ways to get motivated and get back on track. More than willing to do another surgery if there is one available to jump start my weightloss.

Wondering how many have done the same thing and are feeling as I am?

I don't know if there are any active members in here who have had bypasses.

We're mostly lapbanders & Plication and gastric sleeve people.

With that being said, you may not get any bites on this thread.

  5. Hey Karen,

Are you keeping a food journal?

I would be curious as to seeing the specifics of that, including the ratios of fats/proteins/carbs.

How much exercise are you doing?

Is your knee still suffering the effects of your surgery back in September?

It is time to change that up - incorporate resistance training into your workouts, which is essential for many reasons beyond fat loss. Bone density in women in a huge reason alone, to start incorporating this. Have you ever weight trained before?

Do you have access to a gym?>

    What is your height?

    What is your age?

    Are you on any medication(s)?

  6. Because I live so far away (Anchorage Alaska) I have decided to stay in San Diego on the beach for 5 days after my surgery, in case I have any complications. But I am not expecting there to be any issues besides nausea and feeling like _______. I may be surprised and not have any issues but I rather be prepared and expect the worse and be surprised if my outcome is better. I appreciate all the people who have posted and let me know that they really felt poorly for a few days. It lets us know not to be worried when that happens.

    Yeah .. good idea!

San Diego weather is spectacular. You'll love it! :)

  7. I am almost 60 lbs down since my surgery 6 months ago and have prevented my skin from sagging except for my tricep area. I have started lifting weights, but was curious if anyone has any other suggestions for firming up the triceps so my skin doesn't hang. I am trying to keep my skin as tight as possible. Thanks bandsters!!!

No specific exercise will decrease the amount of extra skin.

You can tighten the muscle under it, but as you drop body fat, lose skin will appear.

The amount you have, and the speed (if at all), it tightens up depends on a few factors, from diet, genetics and age.

Unfortunately, there is no solution to this, besides time, and surgery to remove the skin.

  8. I thought maybe you had a soy allergy, which is quite common, but people don't realize it.

I was wondering if you were using a soy based protein powder.

That's once thing, protein powders are NOT all created equally. And sometimes, it's a matter of switching brands.

I've always found fibrous greens give me the shits ... esp if you're not taking in much more than that!

Your system should adapt/adjust with time - I know when I used to diet, it would be a few weeks before my digestive system slowed down a bit, and actually started absorbing the nutrients.

As a side, a couple of years ago, I had a really sensitive system. I don't even know why.

Have you tried taking an Imodium, and seeing if it clears up?

Have you been away, vacationing anywhere lately? Parasites?

Just throwing a bunch of variables out there!

  9. I have lost 12.5 pounds since the liquid diet started. I can tell you exactly how this was done...by being in the bathroom. I talked to the dietician yesterday. She told me to still have a protein shake for breakfast and lunch, but to have a protein and vegetables for dinner with NO carbs. Chicken and broccoli/cauliflower never tasted so good! But...I'm still running to the bathroom. Even water sends me running. What can I do??? The dietician does not understand what is making me do this.

Now my new fear is that I will continue to be sick after this surgery. It does get better, doesn't it??? I came home from work this morning and just slept on the couch as I don't know what else to do. I can hear my stomach rumbling and I have to go back to work at 2:00. There are no bathrooms as I do my job. This is awful...I found myself crying before because I am so frustrated. I've come this far...and am just one week away...but I am truly questioning this due to this stupid liquid diet.

What is going on in the bathroom?

.. I suppose without specifics, I can only guess?

The fibre in veggies (broccoli, esp) can often though a person who isn't used to it, to the bathroom often.

    Diarrhea. Pretty common.

Shakes. Are you on a soy based protein powder?

  10. Here's my take on it - I know that I was building scar tissue around the port - why wouldn't we build scar tissue around the band? That would add tissue around it - thus causing it to tighted without a fill - since we all are seeing this over time and its a normal part of what our bodies do - it just kind of makes sense to me.....

    YES YES YES.

This makes total sense to me, too .. and something I'm starting to experience at the 2 year point.

  11. Many (actually, most) of us involved a much longer flight than 4 hours (that sounds like a DREAM to me, as mine was about 4x longer).

    No prescriptions were given.

I do believe we're concidered very low risk for blood clotting, unless you have a tendency prior.

I would also assume it's dependent on your current health connection, including weight and blood pressure.

Also, Tylenol is NOT a blood thinner.

Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Narcotic pain killers can be blood thinners, however, the pain you'll be experiencing after surgery won't really require any of those.
