  1. Sounds to me like she may be depressed, and I say this because she's not using her doc, support groups, etc to get better. She needs to go get a thorough physical and be honest with her doc. AND she needs to go back to her banding surgeon and get some help. OR she may feel she's fine. This will all be up to her; you can't help her. Sorry! All you can do is be her friend, refuse to be an enabler (lie for her...you don't have to blurt but also if they say "why is miss X vomiting" you can say "ask her") and hope she gets the help she needs.
  2. Why can't you just take them? Except for post op when I was restricted to clear liquids only (no protein shakes even) when I didn't take vitamins or meds that were contraindicated for an empty stomach, I have always just taken my pills, and I'm 13 months post op. BUT not everyone can do that; have you tried? And have you tried the bariatric advantage vitamins? They have a chewable. I don't like 'em but lots swear by them. If you're just using the honey for a limited time, I don't see anything wrong with it. Personally the honey would gag me! but you need to get them down. I have read where (depending on your post op status) some use applesauce or yogurt. Again all that sounds worse to me than just taking them. Is there a reason you don't just chew the flintstones chewables?
  3. Speaking only for me, and as someone who, prior to banding, probably vomited a total of 4 times in my entire 50+ years...being stuck isn't that bad. Don't get me wrong; it hurts, it CAN hurt a lot. BUT at least it's a clear, easily understood signal to SLOW DOWN, CHEW, QUIT EATING! Yes, sometimes I need the bop to my head! And, it isn't like normal vomiting. There's no bile involved. Usually, too, once the offending bolus of food becomes "unstuck" the pain is instantly gone. (not always, but usually) IF you chew well, small bites, eat slowly, odds of getting stuck diminish. It isn't worth not getting the band over. At least, not to me. You follow your doc's rules, you do the best you can. I can say at 13 months I've NEVER been stuck in a restaurant, never needed to vomit in public, etc. And the Papaya enzymes REALLY work for me. ANY time it happens it is because I ate too fast, too large a bite (my normal bite is about 1/2 to 2/3 of what I used to do) or didn't chew well. No more eating like someone is going to take it from you! For me, it's a small price to pay for all the band brings me. Some people do have lots of trouble but generally if you aren't too restricted (just to the green zone or sweet spot) and follow the mechanical rules of chewing etc, you'll be good!
  4. I agree with AngieB. From what I've learned, the pouch CAN stretch but there must be a pattern of overeating to cause it to happen. Odds are you just upset your "innards", if that makes any sense. Just eat carefully the rest of the day... treat it kind of like you would a bad "stuck" episode; liquids only or mushies. Truthfully I bet part of why it hurts you so is probably, because you DO try to follow the rules, you're feeling a little "guilt", but you don't need to. The band is usually more forgiving than that! Odds that you caused yourself any permanent damage from this are slim. Just baby it a little and you should be fine! Take a couple tylenol (or some liquid if you can't take pills) and you should be good to go by tomorrow. If not, call your doc. Funky things DO happen. You should be ok though.
  5. Sabrina how awful. I think w/out Papaya I'd either be dead or I would've clawed a hole in my chest by now. So sorry!
  6. Hope you don't mind if a newbie jumps in! I'm new here but had my band since Aug 2008, down almost 80. And I've found that when I'm stuck (hate it but it does happen sometimes) Papaya enzyme is almost a miracle drug. It has Papain (an enzyme that helps digest protein) and most are formulated with lipase (for fat emulsification) and cellulase (veggie matter) so it helps whatever is stuck break down and move on. I was dubious but found out it only digest "dead" tissue so it won't hurt your living stomach, esophagus etc I finally tried it and WOW it was great! I found mine in the "alternative" section of my large grocer's, but a drugstore or GNC should also carry it. It's worth a try. You chew a couple tabs and it takes about 3-5 minutes and then sweet relief. Just something to try; being stuck is miserable.
