  1. I have been researching the Lap Band for almost 4 years now. I had a girlfriend who had it done, so I was in hot pursuit of finding out all the details. What I found out was...yes, I did qualified for the procedure, but no my insurance would not cover it. Big Bummer! It really knocked all the wind out of my sails....kind of felt like my last hope had been ripped out of my hands. I continued to think about the Lap Band through the years, went to two more doctors and checked into all the "stuff" the insurance said they would need for me to do so they could "consider" it. It was going to take over a year to do all the things they had on their list. I could have paid for it myself by the time I did everything they wanted me to do. My family doctor is actually the one who suggested that I look into Mexico. Her sister had just had it there. My Mom & Dad also has been a big help financially and we have pulled from other areas to get the money together. They were also very nervous about Mexico, but after showing them all the research I had done and answered all their questions, they are on board now. Don't give up, if it doesn't come together now, there's a reason you should wait. It may not be a no, just a not now! Do your homework and don't push it. It it is the right time, everything will fall into place. Good Luck~
  2. That's awesome! Glad everything went well. Keep us posted!
  3. WoW, you guys are rockin!!! I am soooooo excited. Started my pre-op on Sat. while visiting family, just say "NO" was my motto. It must have worked. I lost 6 lbs.,...I am doing the happy weight loss dance. 12 down and 3 to go!

  9. Hey gang, forgot to report in yesterday. I'm with you MyNewlife, not looking forward to getting on the scales. I am sooooo sick of all the food. To my relief,I stayed the same. None lost...none gained. Will start my pre-op diet on Sat. the 26th. Say a prayer for me, we leave that day to head home in NC. Will be with family for the first 4 days of pre-ot...that might get scary. I am pretty determined to do this and I have my ducks in a row. (shakes, water, lean cuisine's, packed and ready to roll) I just hope I don't kill someone over the holidays. Baaahaahaaa!!! Merry Christmas to my new family, you guys rock!!!
  10. Hey girl, good luck at the dentist tom. I'm one of those lucky ones who never had any wisdom teeth to pull....although that might explain a lot of things. You'll be in my prayers!

    Pre-opt diet here I come...starting on Sat.

Whoop whoop! Kind of sick of all the party goodies. That's a good thing.

  11. Hey Stephanie, was wondering what liquid vitamin you are taking? I have asked about the Centrum, but the pharmacist told me they where not making that anymore. Can't seem to find a liquid multi vitamin anywhere. What are you doing for your first week - food that is? Anything good, bad? How much fiber are doing? Thanks, I'll try not to fire to many questions at once. hehehe Hope your still doing well!
  12. Opps, my bad...I fly back on Sat. the 9th. Bummer, we are going to just miss each other. Keep me posted! It will be nice to have someone else to go through the same phases together with. I gotta back girl. We are almost there...whoop, whoop! Keep up the good work on your pre-op. I have one more party tom. night and I'm going to get busy on mine.

  13. Hey girl, I am so excited for you. Now go gett'em girl! Some of us newbie's are going to be asking you a lot of questions. I'm glad you had an easy time and are back home safe and sound.
  14. Hey Kayla, Thanks for adding me on to your friends list. Everyone here is great! I am so excited about my upcoming surgery and for you as well. This is the first time in a long, long time, I've actually lost weight during the holidays. Nothing like being focused! My surgery is on Thur. the 7th, will be heading back to Tenn. on the 10th. When are you coming in?

  15. Hey Ms. CookieJ, I can't offer you any advise, because I have not been banded yet, but I can offer you some encouragement. This is a great group of friends here and I'm sure they will have some great advise for you. I too, am an emotional eater and this will be a big challenge for me as well. Sounds like you've made a start in the right direction...coming on here a laying all out on the line. Sometimes just seeing things in black and white is a good kick in the pants. I have been researching the band for almost 4 years now and am so excited about my upcoming surgery. Thank you for coming online and sharing your struggles as well. It helps to know that this is not a cure all, but a tool and there are going to be struggles along the way. The most important thing I guess I could say is....You have an incredible tool, now just start over and start using it! You know what to do...DO IT! YOU CAN DO IT, you've done it before. Now...Go Get'em Girlfriend!
  16. That's awesome! I'm glad everything went well, including the sent off into "dreamland" by the Dr....hehehe! I can't wait until it's my turn. 2 weeks, 3 day and 20 hrs., but who's counting. I am so excited for you and can't wait to see your progress. Congratulations!!!

  19. Good Morning, Gang! Well, I am holding my own this week. 0 lbs. lost, but 0 lbs. gained. AngieB - your right on all the party's, it does make it harder. Just wanted to say, Thank you for posting your ups and downs. It's nice to know what to expect in the future. It sounds like you have made a huge leap in the right direction...your head. I know for me, half the battle is in my head. Having a new outlook on the holidays, being more active and definitively more healthy is a huge accomplishment in my book. (A great "gain"!) You go girl, keep up the good work...this is a new week. Each small change or step, gets us further down the road. Congrats to the gang who lost this week......Whoop, whoop!
  20. Hey guys, Amy here-another Newbie. I would like to say "Thank You" to everyone who post here. The good, the bad, and the ugly. That is one thing I like about this forum.....everyone is honest. It's nice to know you'll get encouragement, answers and even frustrations at times. Everyone is at different places in there journey and it's nice to see you can let your hair down here - with respect to others! Slimbutrfly: thanks for asking-wondering the same thing. Sometime I don't have but a few min. to check-in and I'll pull up the most recent post first. If I am looking for something specific, I do try to do a search but sometimes can't find what I'm looking for and ask the question. Everyone here is wonderful - Just remember: We're all in the same boat...just in different areas. Keep paddling, girl!!
  21. Congrats everyone! You guys are doing awesome. I love hearing that you guys are melting away. I have been doing a protein shake for breakfast and watching what I eat. 6 lbs. down. Whoop Whoop! Hopefully the rest of my pre-opt weight will come off as easy. -6lbs: 12.09.09
  22. Man, I never thought of that! Good idea! Baaahaaahaaa! That is too funny!
  23. You guys crak me up - scale whore - baahaahaha. Well, I must confess, I too am a closet "scale whore" and I haven't even been banded yet. Only 34 days to wait. I would love to join you guys. I am trying to cut back and do a pre-preopt diet and I am driving myself crazy by jumping on the scales every morning. I already find myself doing what Debbie does, on the scale and not even knowing how I got there. Thank you all for being so honest, it sure helps knowing your not the only scale whore out there!
  24. Hey Carrie, I so get the "being scared" of losing enough weight part - especially over the holidays. I am already doing a protein shake for breakfast, salad for lunch and a Lien Cuisine for Dinner. Thanks for the (300) part. I'm trying to wean myself off soft drinks and just be more aware of what I'm eating. What about coffee w/creamer? That's a biggie for me. Everyone here has been great to encourage and share some great tips. Thanks, everyone!
