  1. I would think they would not hurt you really but you just need to remember that with a small stomach it seems like things are digested quicker. Just seemd like my body processes things different now. I have to be careful taking my meds now. I can't take them all at 1 time like I used to do. I took diet pills before surgery for years, I've taken 2 since surgery in OCt 2006 and they just make me feel bad. Just be careful with any medication.
  2. I think a lot of it has to do with being more socially acceptable and insurance coverage. I see commercials during the news from the netwoks at prime time. People tell me 'I saw the commerical for the Lap Band' and they understand it more now.
  3. You will always have days were you were bad. Just try to keep them only "Day" and not "Week" of bad eating. Sometimes we think of reasons why we deserve food that we don't need. Think about the reasons you had lap-band and your goals.
  4. The pre-op shakes were SLim-Fast were doctors orders and post-op they have way to much sugar. With the 2 vitamins daily of Flintstones, doctor says there is no need for additional protein supplement.
  5. My port, also known as "My valve stem" from my husband, is feelable and tender if I try pushing something with my belly, like the cart at Wal-mart. I don't think it sticks out to be noticable but I don't wear clothing that is that tight either. My style is still like I was at a size 26, I like comforable clothing but I thing we get that way as we get older.
  6. I was looking forward and depending on the adjustment to help lose the weight. Then I starting feeling bad. Doc said all my signs were I was filled too much on my last fill. I was up to 3cc so he took me to 2cc. Yes I miss eating certain foods but I also enjoy my new size, being healthier, being comfortable getting in and out of places like tables, booths, vechiles!! I would not want to go back and people do envy you because you lose weight so easy and because they can't have surgery because of money, insurance, etc or don't even met requirements. Please make this a postive thing in your like. We all made the committment to change our way of thinking with food. I want to be the person that eats to live not the one that lives to eat. And that comes from someone that eats about every 2 or 3 hours. Skipping meals is not a good thing here!!
  7. To a great extent you have to change your bad food habits and that will be easier to do once you are not hungry. We all make bad food choices but hopefully they will be less and less. The lap band is only a tool to help you, you have to make a committment to change the way you eat. But don't worry, you will learn what works and what does not learn. I'm still learning and I was banded Oct 2006. My big problem is portion control. I want to eat more that I need and then my belly hurts so it's still a learning process. You will do well =D>
  8. I beleive having a variety of foods helps to prevent that!!
  9. At times I have to ride a golf cart at work to another building with a dirt/gravel road in between. Sometimes it is so rough I can just feel my belly shaking and sometimes fear that I will shake my lap band off. Just another thought us banders have about the possibilities!!!
  10. The flintstones w/iron is what the doctor says banders need, espically right after surgery becasue it's chewable. He says 2 a day but I do 1 and 1 Centrum chewable. I beleive the content is better in the Centrum than the fliststones because it is a kid vitamin. We all just have to find what works best.
  11. I did join Curves, it's low intense but it's moving!! Better than sitting and you don't have to work out with people who look like they don't need to be at the gym, it's a very comfortable situation for us older gals!!
  12. I also have the pain in the upper part of stomach but I've had the gallbaddr and appidence removed 7 years ago. I'm fity two, female, not fertile and yes fat. Was lapbanded Oct 2006 and have lost 60 pounds, wonder what my pain is coming from?? I'm just sorta thinking something I ate, too much of maybe. My stomach does swell as the day goes on. The pants I were in the morning will not fit in the evening. I've tried to narrow down some of the things I'm eating/drinking but no answer yet. Any suggestions??
  13. I think I would talk to the doctor about why you are having trouble swallowing and let the doctor say if you are a good candidate. I'm sure the doctor does not want to do surgery if you are having problems already. Besides alot of the doctors idea is keeping their statistics positive and their patients not having problems.
  14. That's all you can do is try different. But foods that work at 1 time may work different after you get adjusted. I just can't eat anything that is dry. Bread has to have dressing, gravy, broth etc. I try to practice portion control instead of just eating a little because usually by then you've ate too much and you don't really feel it until an hour or so later. When something does not agree with my stomach, the best thing to do is to drink water. As if to flush it out!!
  15. Judy, I was banded Oct 2006 and salads are my favorite along with tuna. Reason is unlike prepared foods, your salad you can eat slow and it does not get cold. Nothing worst that your meal getting cold after 3 bites beecasue you are eating slow. I stick to regular iceberg lettuce, cumumber, little cheese and a few croutons. The crutons give you that crunchy that you need. I probably use too much salad dressing but I've never had a problem with salads. Kathy top weight 241 current 180
  16. My experience is when food gets stuck, I can do the burp and what is stuck will come up. It does not work for just over eating and having that stuffed feeling unless you just eat too much for the band. You can only hold so much, so different than before when you could still eat when you are full. When food is stuck, your salvia will not go down. That's the clear fuild that comes up until you can get the food up. If you try to not let this fluid come up when something is stuck, it collects in the spot before the band. When it collects and you don't let it come up, it will cause chest pains. Then you get all nervous and it gets worse. And the deal about walking, I know what you mean. I think that while sitting the diagram area is compressed and does not let food pass as easily. That's the bad thing about eating out, if you get up and walk, the only place to go is the restroom. I feel like the people I'm eating with think that I'm going to puck my food while I'm just allowing my food to go down. While at home, I'm usually doing something while I'm eating to keep me busy so I don't eat so fast. While eating out, there's nothing to do but eat or talk. Usually being on my lunch hour, we are limited in time. I need a 2 hour lunch break. Kathy banded 10-9-06 top weight 241 current weight 180
  17. I was bander in Oct 2006 and I have had so many various aches, pains and things happening to my body, including my feet!! Before I was banded, I blamed all my aches and pains on my weight, so now it just seems like these strange things happen and I somehow connect it to my lap band. My body certainly processes my meds different now. I have to be careful to not take all at same time. Has anyone noticed how careful you are now of something pressing against your stomach? I used to sorta push the cart at Walmart with my belly, hold things against my belly for support. Now I can't tolerate anything against my stomach or even sitting in an un-right position seems to put pressure on it. KAthy Bander Oct 2006 Top weight 241 Current Weight 180 cu
  18. Chewing and spitting is not good but I have done so only the few times I've tried to eat beef. I receive a reverse adjustment, 3cc to 2cc and can eat just about anything but beef. I was lap banded 10-9-06 and have lost about 60 lbs. When the doc took me from 2.8cc to 3cc, it was so good. I just wasn't hungry and when I was I was easly satisified with semi-liquids. I then lost 11 pounds in 14 days, then I ate something during the night and it did not go down for 3 days until I went to the doc and that's when he did the reverse adjustment.
  19. I suggest call your doctor and explain your situtation.
  20. I'm about at the point where I can eat alot so this is where the self control needs to kick in!! I haven't tried pizza yet but just about all other things have no problems. I had chips and dip this weekend. So good!!
  21. You've made a decision to change your life!! Good for you. It's not brain surgery so just be glad you are on the right track. If you are on the liquid diet, the surgery won't come soon enough!! My life changed when I started that liquid diet. My surgery was 10-9-06 and I've lost almost 30 pounds and feeling better. It's the bad habits that I'm dealing with now!! I still love to eat and with the holiday approaching, I'm nervous becuase I don't have a lot of self control. I can not sit in front of food and not eat so I'm learning to distance myself from food. Sometimes it's an anti-social act almost but until we learn to change our habits that got us here, we have to do what we have to do. Make sure you stay on the diet because if you start eating sweets and fatty foods, you will start that desire all over again. Good luck and stick with the pop sickles and broth!!
  22. Some of the sugar free chocolate is loaded with carbs!! Be careful.
  23. I had lap band on 10-9-06 and 4 weeks later rec'd 1cc. I'm still pretty full feeling. Sometimes it seems to take an hour after I eat to fill full. However my doc told me the band holds up to 11cc. Is there any at the time of surgery? I go back in 2 weeks and he seemed like he would put in another cc at that time. He said last time they put more that 1cc, patient was back the next day and nothing would go down. I've lost almost 30 pounds and it feels great but I need to learn to control bad habits of eating later in day and eating when not hungry, just craving food!! Bad eating habits is how we all got were we are. Also the water and exercise really helps!!
