  1. I went to work out today and stopped by a friend's place to visit. She asked if I would like to join her for lunch. I thanked her for the invite but told her that I wasn't ready for restaurants since I was just banded less than a week ago. While she understood she was a bit hurt and really didn't see why I couldn't muster up the willpower to go. I know she didn't mean anything by it. After leaving I equated the discussion as a recovering alcoholic being asked to go to the bar right after a six week stint in rehab. A bit insane. Does anyone have similar situations and advice to avoid these experiences? I know I will have office luncheons where I will be expected to participate in the impromptu "pizza parties". Paul
  2. I would like to keep in contact with the people I met during my lap band surgery on June 25, 2010. If you were at OCC and we talked in the waiting room, get back with me. I would like to keep in touch. Most of the members on here don't have pictures. Paul
  3. In regards to returning to the US. I didn't even think about the wait time. The OCC staff picked me up at 630am and I was through the border in less than 15 minutes. So it definitely depends on what time of day you are going. This is my second time going to TJ. The first was for shopping. I look forward to going back. Paul
  4. Hi Sabrina! I have lived in Central Phoenix for the last 14 years. I have several friends that are in the real estate biz and are not wolves. The prices have dropped substantially so what I paid for my condo I could get a 3-4 bedroom home. Let me know. Paul
  5. I had several reasons for getting the lap band procedure. One, I didn't feel well. I was depressed with my weight ballooning up to 375 pounds. I became a recluse, had social anxiety, and that is not my personality. By nature I am an extrovert and like to be around people. My health began to suffer and I wasn't willing to go out and be around people anymore. Relationships were out as well. I haven't dated in about 8-10 years. I feel I have missed some of the best years of my life. This is something I want to change. I also started my PhD program. I researched and wrote a 30 page paper on the effects of obesity in the workplace. This was not just on discrimination of the obese, it was also how the obesity affected other workers in the organization, eg., coworkers having to pick up for those workers that could not do the work due to their obesity. Currently, Michigan is the only state that has a non-discrimination law regarding employee size. I could not justify the time, effort, and money to get a advanced degree if I could not be effective in my career. Paul
  6. Thank you for all your support. I think I will take change my expectations a bit. Walking is fine for me now. In 3 months I will have the stamina to get out there and work with the weights. When I was at the gym yesterday, I had fond memories of weightlifting and aerobics in my early 20s. I look forward to getting back in the swing of it. Thanks guys. Paul
  7. I had my lap band on Friday, June 25, 2010. Yesterday, I started back at the gym. While I was a little sore, I walked 1/2 mile. Today I am going back and hoping for a mile. As long as I don't have any complaints, this should be ok? Can anyone give me some good advice to their exercise regime? I know I have to wait 3 weeks before starting upper body workout. Suggestions are welcomed. Paul Source: Exercise

  9. A little more critical thinking on their part instead of an emotional knee jerk reaction. Think about it. How many millions/billions of people thrive nicely without the US and its FDA blessing ?
