I find that I can eat anything, as long as the bite is not too large and is well chewed. Bread, pancakes, tortillas, pasta, whatever. Maybe I need another fill. Regardless I dont have trouble eating those things. I can also still eat red meat/steak, pork chops, etc. Red meat is cumbersome bc of hte chewing, and if its gristle I spit it out, but if its something like a NY Strip, no gristle, I can eat my 4 oz portion just fine.
Ive heard some people have issues with eggs in the AM - again, I have no problems.
Wow, I didn't know that about the eggs. I was thinking scrambled eggs would go down easy. I hope I am like you and can tolerate things in small bites and chewed well. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you jhawkchick. I find your pictures very inspiring. You are looking fantastic!

Good question Angie. I was wondering the exact same thing. One awful day, before I was sereious about having surgery, I went out to eat for lunch with my daughter and dinner that evening with my husband. I must of ordered all the wrong things that had way too much sodium intake. Later, I was horrified at how much water retention I had. My legs, ankles and feet were huge. I got on the scale, and I was the highest weight I have ever been!! I started crying and called OCC the next day. I knew I had to change my life. ( It wasn't that whimsical, I had been researching it forever and saving my money) I have been going by that weight as my highest weight.........but maybe it wasn't really accurate?

Thank you Widdlee for your response. I don't want my food to get stuck. I'll be sucking on those ice cubes!!

Thank you very much Lisa, Erin and Kim. I appreciate you answering. It's so nice to have others to turn to through this process.

I have read all of the "Ouch" foods to avoid that Dr. Miranda wrote on my paper but I was wondering.......when she says no flour tortilla, does that mean I can never take a bite of a burrito again without consequences? She says no bread, so does that mean never again will I have a piece of toast, a sandwich or my husband's famous french toast for breakfast? (Without pain) What about a baked potato?
Also, I don't fully understand what drinking with a meal does to us. Can someone explain it to me? Why is it so bad and what are the consequences?
Thank you in advance for the help!

Christy,
I agree with you on a couple of things you mentioned. First, weekends suck on the liquid phase! I really struggle mentally. Also, I could gain 5 lbs. of water weight from a meal high in sodium too! I hate having nothing to look forward to, day in and day out, except drinking my meals. I am so tired of everything liquid. I'm only on day 12 too. The good news is that I've lost 16 lbs. post op. I complain, but I've stayed so strong with following the program.
Jenny, I know it's hard not to watch the scales. I think you are doing great, so hang in there!

Thank you Kim and Valleygirl!
Kim you make me smile because there's no way my scars will be exposed to the sun. What I mean is, I'm not showing off my stomach girlfriend! You, on the other hand, look fabulous in your bikini!!! Congratulations!

Momof4,
Hey little brave mama! I'm wondering how you are doing too. Can't wait to hear about your Mexico experience!
-
During the liquid phase you are allowed more than 4 ounces at a time. Make sure you are getting enough protein per day.
-
Nice rack!!! I'm with Erin on the pain thing. I don't know how you did it. The size of the incision looks unbearable to me. You are very brave and you look FANTASTIC!
-
damalove you CAN get protein from liquids. There are many protein shakes out there and also there is protein water. I drink Isopure Protein Water purchased at GNC.
Erin, That empty feeling in your stomach does make sense. I felt it too. Dr. Ortiz says the Gas X does nothing. I asked Carolyn about it, however many swear by it. I tried it and it did nothing.

Just joined the forum. I was banded on July 16, recovery went great, and the transition has been a lot easier than I thought it would be. I've lost about 17 pounds post-op (along with 15) pre-op and looking forward to much, much more success in the next months and years! Sure, that's generic, but can't think of another way to express how excited I am right now. Haha!
That's so awesome you have lost 17lbs post op!!! Congratulations on all 32lbs lost!!! You are doing great! The transition isn't so easy for me, but that's ok, I'm staying strong and learning a lot about myself along the way.

Really Dwanye? Can you tell me why not? I just want to chew something so bad. Also, it's hot and I'm eating soup, which isn't satisfying to me at all. I never was a soup person, especially in the summer.
-
Have crossed many many times with no issue.
Same here. My husband has crossed the border many, many, times for dental work and I have a couple of times. No issues.

I was told at least 3 weeks
Thank you Dwayne! No one ever told me. I was thinking about emailing the doctor but I knew someone on here would know the answer! I appreciate your help. So about the time I go off liquids, I can swim. I'm looking forward to both!
-
go swimming in a pool? I live in So. Calif. and it's hot. I am anxious to go in the pool but I had my surgery just 10 days ago. Is that long enough? No doctor discussed this with me.
Okay what were you guys really thinking I was asking? Lol

I really hope it's not Crohns. It's the worst of the two. I know this because I have lived very closely with Crohns. Both my neice and my sister in law have it. I won't go into anything as I don't want you to worry, it may not be what you have. I'm glad you saw a doctor and that you are getting diagnosed. Best wishes to you as you go through this.

Erin,
Congratulations on having your surgery! That's a bummer about the delay with the driver but that Border crossing can be a nightmare! It sounds like you are doing good. You are lucky you were first. I was second on surgery day and I liked being near the beginning. I hope you keep on feeling good and that you feel great in no time!
-
Paul,
Can't believe it's already time for your first fill! You have lost so much weight already, it's amazing!! I sincerely hope they get it just right this first fill and you have perfect restriction the first time! Are you flying down to Mexico? Best Wishes!!

Momof4,
I wish you more than luck. I wish complete success for you!! I will say a prayer for your nerves. If you only knew how much I understand. I was so nervous too and very emotional about the whole experience. I am so proud of you for doing this. I respect you for traveling alone, despite your fears, and for making this decision so you can get healthy for those 4 kids.
You are going to do fine. OCC has computers and so does the Marriott in their Business Center. So keep us updated. Oh and I forgot to tell you that when you are in your room at the Surgery Center, there is a phone and you can make all the calls you want in the USA for FREE!!!

Christy, I was banded 2 days after you and I've been burping like crazy! It feels good to get the air out.
-
B2010,
Thank you so much for that thorough explanation! I had no idea! It sounds horrible though and I am not looking forward to ever experiencing that. I feel terrible that you did for 5 days because your band was too tight. I hope your band is better now. : )
GAS!

Erin,
I'm on day 14 and I have mostly experienced burping not gas. Everyday I can hear the gas rumbling through my stomach though. It especially happens after I've drank something or had my soup. Everyone must be different because I did/do feel hungry all the time, and the only BM I've had is like water. My friend Robin had gas like you after surgery though, maybe she will respond on here. Best wishes!
