  1. damalove you CAN get protein from liquids. There are many protein shakes out there and also there is protein water. I drink Isopure Protein Water purchased at GNC. Erin, That empty feeling in your stomach does make sense. I felt it too. Dr. Ortiz says the Gas X does nothing. I asked Carolyn about it, however many swear by it. I tried it and it did nothing.
  2. That's so awesome you have lost 17lbs post op!!! Congratulations on all 32lbs lost!!! You are doing great! The transition isn't so easy for me, but that's ok, I'm staying strong and learning a lot about myself along the way.
  3. Really Dwanye? Can you tell me why not? I just want to chew something so bad. Also, it's hot and I'm eating soup, which isn't satisfying to me at all. I never was a soup person, especially in the summer.
  4. Same here. My husband has crossed the border many, many, times for dental work and I have a couple of times. No issues.
  5. Thank you Dwayne! No one ever told me. I was thinking about emailing the doctor but I knew someone on here would know the answer! I appreciate your help. So about the time I go off liquids, I can swim. I'm looking forward to both!
  6. go swimming in a pool? I live in So. Calif. and it's hot. I am anxious to go in the pool but I had my surgery just 10 days ago. Is that long enough? No doctor discussed this with me. Okay what were you guys really thinking I was asking? Lol
  7. I really hope it's not Crohns. It's the worst of the two. I know this because I have lived very closely with Crohns. Both my neice and my sister in law have it. I won't go into anything as I don't want you to worry, it may not be what you have. I'm glad you saw a doctor and that you are getting diagnosed. Best wishes to you as you go through this.
  8. Erin, Congratulations on having your surgery! That's a bummer about the delay with the driver but that Border crossing can be a nightmare! It sounds like you are doing good. You are lucky you were first. I was second on surgery day and I liked being near the beginning. I hope you keep on feeling good and that you feel great in no time!
  9. Paul, Can't believe it's already time for your first fill! You have lost so much weight already, it's amazing!! I sincerely hope they get it just right this first fill and you have perfect restriction the first time! Are you flying down to Mexico? Best Wishes!! Cheryl
  10. Momof4, I wish you more than luck. I wish complete success for you!! I will say a prayer for your nerves. If you only knew how much I understand. I was so nervous too and very emotional about the whole experience. I am so proud of you for doing this. I respect you for traveling alone, despite your fears, and for making this decision so you can get healthy for those 4 kids. You are going to do fine. OCC has computers and so does the Marriott in their Business Center. So keep us updated. Oh and I forgot to tell you that when you are in your room at the Surgery Center, there is a phone and you can make all the calls you want in the USA for FREE!!!
  11. Christy, I was banded 2 days after you and I've been burping like crazy! It feels good to get the air out.
  12. Christy,

I'm thinking of you. Did you have your surgery? How are you doing? XXOO

  13. B2010, Thank you so much for that thorough explanation! I had no idea! It sounds horrible though and I am not looking forward to ever experiencing that. I feel terrible that you did for 5 days because your band was too tight. I hope your band is better now. : )
  14. Hey, I was banded on the 28th too!!! This is Cheryl, who is this? Heck if I know what sliming is!! I just learned what a PB is. (Productive Burp is a polite way of saying throwing up in your mouth!) Angela is that you?
  15. Hi Robin! The drinkable yogurt felt great in my mouth! I'm so glad you are doing better today! Great to talk to you!
  16. I want to thank all of you for sharing your tips on how you got through this liquid phase of the diet. I am on day 5 and it has been pure hell for me. I felt hunger pains immediately after surgery. My stomach has been growling LOUD ever since. Mental hunger? How can it be, when it HURTS so bad? Feels physical to me. On the 4rth day, broth was literally gagging me. I went ahead and drank a tiny bit of the liquid yogurt. That did help. Am I doing damage to my band though? I had some liquid yogurt again today. Dr. Miranda says "If you can't drink it, don't eat it." But some of you ate frozen yogurt, is that ok?
  17. Erin and Canuk, It is so normal to second guess your decision to do this. I did everyday before my surgery. I even did the morning of surgery. I was the biggest chicken, the biggest baby ever. The fact is, I could not lose the weight on my own. My addiction to food was greater than my will power. The band is a tool that is helping me. I have lost 18 lbs so far! Ten of those were pre op and 8 in the last 5 days! I understand being scared. The nurse gives you a pill under your tongue that dissolves and it calms you down to the point you don't care you are having surgery. Thank God for that pill!!! You both can do this! Be strong, it will all be ok. : )
  18. Hi Momof4! The Marriott is very clean and nice. The worst part about it is that there are only 3 English speaking channels on the TV and they have subtitles in Spanish at the bottom of the screen!!! I would get so distracted reading subtitles, I would miss what I was watching! Then the commercials blast at you in Spanish. It was hard because my husband and I would get bored and want to watch Tv to pass the time away and there is nothing to watch! The traffic is crazy down there and the drivers are crazy! The cab rides are a little scary because they drive like maniac's. I did feel safe down there so I don't want to alarm you with this info, just prepare you. There is an abandoned Hotel next to the Marriott that the Police have taken over as a headquarters. They have sandbags stacked up at the entrance with policemen behind them pointing machine guns out at the street 24/7 to protect their Command Center. It's pretty intimadating. We were told don't walk around alone at night. If you get bored there is a Walmart down the street you can walk around in, it's a $4.00 cab ride or about a one mile walk. Or there is the Revolution Ave. you can take a cab ride to. They sell lots of souvenirs. The day before surgery Dr. Ortiz says we can have a "Farewell to Food" meal. So some people have went to this restaurant down the street with a big Sombrero as the roof called "El Potrero". We ate there and had fabulous service, excellent food, great prices, very clean. It was a $4.00 cab ride to get there. I found the food at the Marriott to be expensive and not very good. After surgery the Marrioot provides you with what they call the "OCC Package" this is free to you, or actually covered under our surgery fee. The OCC Package includes broth, the chicken was horrible but the beef was better, popsicles, two flavors, lemon or papaya. The lemon one was basically water with lemon juice squeezed in! Yuck! The papaya was better. Then you can have apple juice and bottled water. You will also need $31.00 after surgery to by your meds from the OCC Center. Hope this helps!! : ) .
  19. Momof4, I just got home from Mexico today. I had lap band surgery on the 28th. I was very nervous before the surgery but it happens so fast. You really aren't under for very long at all. There is some soreness around the port incision afterward. The staff at the hospital was great. You will do fine! Remember to walk a lot afterward so you won't get gas pains.
  20. I had lap band surgery on the 28th. We just got home today from Mexico. I'm doing pretty good. I have soreness around the port incision and some gas pains. I struggle with the mental game of hunger. The clear liquid diet is tough. It's the end of day 3 and I am so sick of broth. I had two angels who had surgery the same day as me, Robin and Angela. They helped me through every step of this journey. I would recommend Dr. Ortiz and his team to anyone considering this surgery. The Mexico hospital was clean, the staff is friendly and professional. If anyone has anyone questions, feel free to email me anytime.
  21. Dr, That's the recording some of us overweight people have in our heads, "that we will fail". I know I struggle with this. My weight has led to low self esteem and low self esteem has kept the weight on. I am fearful of being overweight and dying and then again fearful of breaking free from the weight and becoming all that I am meant to be. I just keep focusing on changing my life for the better, getting healthy, and living happily ever after with my wonderful husband. I am becoming more and more determined to do this, as a friend suggested I do. I know that we will both be successful as we go on this journey!
  22. Thank you for your help Jenny! : ) I noticed you have a low BMI and not that much weight to lose. I was curious about your decsion to get banded.
  23. Robin, Hey girl, I got your message. I've been really busy but I will call you tomorrow. : ) Jenny, Protein Water Mix - Check Fiber Powder - Check Gas-X strips - Check Liquid Extra Stenght Tylenol - Check I'm having surgey next Wed.
