  1. Hi Stoney! I'm so glad to hear you're getting better, I was concerned for you. I'm doing well so far - I was very hesitant to take any fluids initially after seeing how much trouble you had. Did you leave Wednesday as planned? I found the travel uncomfortable, the sitting on the flights didn't help the gas pain, but the walking in the airports sure did. Looking forward to the next part of the journey and so glad I got to meet you along the way. Please keep in touch! Wishing you well,Yolanda
  2. Well, it's the day after, i'm so disoriented on the time but know its about 10pm here now. I'm in the Lucerne, a little lonely but okay. walking off the gas pains. Haven't had any nausea or vomitting but I've been a litte tentative with my fluids...I would only do ice chips while I was at OCC but I've been taking sips of water and diluted juice today. Met some great people - Stoney too! Dr. Ortiz is amazing (so handsome) and his team wonderful. Great experience so ...

Hi there, wondering how you are doing now? I'm planning to schedule in the next couple of months and have been getting very hesitant as many posts are those who are dissatisfied with the plication. I want to avoid having to have fills and travel to Mexico for them, so plication suits me. But does it really work long term? I would love to get my hands on research from other countries that have been doing this for 10 yrs plus that have proof that there is long term success. I'd love to ...

  3. Okay, bags packed, everything prepared. Weighed myself this morning and finally made it to my goal for surgery and actually went 1 lb past it, hopefully will have another pound or two off by the time I have surgery Monday. Everyone has been so supportive, I'm excited but the nurse in me is going through all the what-if's of things that can go wrong. Trying really hard to put it out of my mind. Praying for a positive outcome. Wish me luck ya'll :) I'll post updates for those o...

  4. Less than 48 hours now!! Excited, nervous... doing well with the preop diet - 1 lb to go but I've been losing about 1 - 1.5 lbs per day so I'm not worried about making it. Surgery Monday! Crossing my fingers, toes & eyes - hoping this will be the life change I've been longing for.
  5. I was hoping to just travel light and not have to check any bags so I don't want to drag the shakes and broth etc with me - what did ya'll do for meal time? Want to be prepared and know what to bring - leaving Sunday and can't believe its time!
  6. Hi Katie, I'll be watching for you next week - I'll hopefully be on my way out that morning if all goes well. I'm scheduled for the 14th and while I'm excited, I'm also having anxiety. I'm travelling alone too and my biggest fear is that something bad will happen and I'll be after leaving my children to be raised by their less than ideal father. Not trying to be dramatic, it's just whats in my head - I'm doing this for them, to be healthy and live a long time - can't help but have fears for worst case scenarios - I'm a nurse! Worst patients ever! Good luck next week and I look forward to sharing our weight loss stories here Take care, Yolanda
  7. Thanks everybody! Just a week away now... excited and nervous, now I'm more nervous about going alone. I don't really have anyone who could come with me, my best friend is going to be taking care of my kids for me. Hoping I'll get my pre op weight goal this week, I was at 7 lbs down as of Friday - I'm using our digital scale at work so I don't have any variation in weights. The liquid only thing really isn't that bad except when I'm around a bunch of people enjoying a meal - I would anticipate even that would be a little easier once I have the surgery. Right now my mind knows I have plenty of room for a plate full of food Not after next week! Another question I thought of today... does anyone know what the medications are that I'll need to purchase down there? They just told me I had to buy some prescription meds but not specifically which ones... Thanks! Yolanda
  8. Hi! I guess we'll be surgery buddies I'm coming from Texas, how about you? Started the preop diet yet? I'm doing the liquid diet - I'm not loving it but it's been manageable so far. Good luck and I'll see you soon!
  9. Guess I'll post first - I'm scheduled for a plication in 12 days!!! March 14th. I'm on day 4 of my preop diet and down 6 lbs already - I'm doing the liquid option so I'm sure I'll be out of my mind after 2 weeks of shakes. Guess its good preparation for post op. Anyone else scheduled with me?? Would love to chat before hand! Yolanda
  10. Hi Sharon! I'll be leaving that morning but I'll definitely keep an eye out for you in the lobby - I hear that's "the meeting place" Yolanda
  11. Call me crazy, but I booked my flight based on the recommendations given but I can't help thinking I will be delayed and need to change my flight! Am I nuts or did you all really leave as scheduled? I fly in on Sunday afternoon, surgery Monday, R&R Tuesday with a flight home around noon on Wednesday. What do you guys think? My rationale brain says they wouldn't advise me to leave Wednesday if they didn't know what they were doing The silly questions keep on coming.... Yolanda
  12. I can't thank you all enough!!! I guess it helps knowing that each of you have gone through not just the surgery but the battle that's lead up to it. I try to talk to my close friends or my sisters but they really don't 'get it' - I get that skeptical look or the comment that I just need to eat better or exercise more, as if I hadn't thought of that already. Plus they don't understand the self-consciousness of being overweight. Now I've encountered the 'shock and horror' look because I'm going to Mexico. Thank you all for being so kind - this is just what I needed. Thanks for welcoming me Yolanda
  13. If it's any consolation I'm in the same boat = I'm scheduled for March 14th and wish there was just more info... at the same time I'm really looking at myself and the questions I'm asking. I've really got no reservations about the procedure since I feel that it is less invasive and the risks inherent in surgical procedures would be lower since they don't cut or redirect things. My concerns are all about the outcome - how will I feel? Will I have nausea, vomitting, reflux? Will I see the results that they are claiming? I know everyone's outcome will be different and dependent upon how they follow the post op instructions, but there just aren't as many plication patients posting their outcomes as the lap banders Guess I'll just put my faith in God and Dr. Ortiz and see where this journey takes me - I'm a big believer in fate and I think fate has brought me down this path so far. Good luck - when is your surgery? Maybe we'll cross paths in the waiting room Yolanda
  14. Hi Karen, Thank you for sharing your experiences here, I'm new to the site and waiting for my plication March 14th. Reading all the posts on here at least gives me some sense of what to expect, and hopefully I'll benefit from your experiences and observations, good or bad. Hope the plateau is brief and you get back on the decline Good luck! Yolanda
  15. Just made the big decision and scheduled plication - terrified and could really use some reassurance. I'm more scared of what happens if I do nothing - single mom, two kids and I want to be here for them, tired of being the fat one on the sidelines and want to fix this. With plication being the newer procedure, I'd really appreciate guidance, feedback, success stories, warnings, precautions, - hoping to find some friends on here as I start this journey. -- Yolanda
