  1. Hello, I have been banded for 2 years now and have been pretty successful. I would still like to lose 20 lbs but I am happy where I am.....anyway.....It seems like I remember a recommendation about getting an EGD done every 2 years post-op. Has anyone heard this?

I have been having a lot of reflux in the last several months. I called OCC and they said my band is too tight to loosen it (which I have not done yet) but I do not feel the restriction like I used to. I do get full very fast (as I always have) but I can feel the food slip through my band after just a couple of minutes. Anyway, I have an appt scheduled with a gastroenterologist in a couple of weeks to talk about an EGD but was just wondering if there was anyone else out there that has had it done.....or is experiencing the reflux and what you did to get it to stop...Thanks

I HAD REFLUX REALLY BAD FOR ALMOST A WEEK, GOT AN UNFILL AND EVERYTHING BEEN FINE. YES, THEY RECOMMEND A ENDOSCOPY AFTER TWO YEARS BUT.... I JUST HAVEN'T GOTTEN THERE AND I'M ALMOST 4 YEARS OUT :o

  2. I wondered if anyone has had this done with a bmi lower than 35 and how it went? I have about 60 pounds to lose and i really want to try this but i am scared. I read somewhere you cannot drink coffee for 3 months after the surgery is this true? I am addicted to coffee lol..Also do you have to pay every time you get the fills and go back to mexico? Or can you have it done somewhere near where you live and how much does this cost?

MY BMI WAS 32.6 AND WENT JUST FINE. NOTHING TO FEAR BUT A THINNER YOU :)

  3. HI, OCC has been doing a series of Video-Conferences, the most recent was on April 8. I haven't been able to attend due to time zone differences, but I wondered if they are posted anywhere for me to watch? I thought I saw them on here, but have not been able to find them?

TWO POSTS ABOVE YOURS :), PINNED

LOOKS LIKE THE LAST ONE ISN'T UP YET

  4. Hi my surgery is in May, I live in the States and am concerned about post op care and the cost, can anyway give me ideas on what to expect?

PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM ARE FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, JUST ASK IF YOU NEED HELP FINDING SOMEONE IN YOUR AREA. GET SOMEONE LINED UP BEFORE SURGERY IS A GOOD IDEA

    BEST WISHES :)

  5. I'm sorry you had to go through this. Unfortunately, if you are this sensitive to fills (I know I am) you may even have trouble with fills under fluoro in future. In December I went to OCC for a fill and it all looked fine but two weeks later I couldn't swallow my spit. A fill that is okay one day can still turn on you and tighten all of a sudden for no good reason. Just make sure you get very small fills, whether under fluoro or not. I'm just saying that there is no guarantee with fluoro- trust me.

YOU'VE GOT TO STILL HAVE SOMEONE LOCAL ALSO, LOCAL AFTERCARE IS REALLY IMPORTANT

  6. I went for a fill yesterday and it seemed like the doc had no idea if he filled the port or not ! OMG! he asked me how much to fill i needed and my mind was going a million miles a minute. I let him proceed. What was I thinking, I should have walked out at that second ! I asked him to put 2 cc in, just from reading about my fellow banders. So He said he FOUND THE SPOT and put 2 cc in. I don't feel any restriction at all ! I thought they used a special needle to put the saline in but he used a regular needle. OMG ! , again. I don't know what to do. Should I go back and get more of a fill( if I got one ) OMG , again ! I could cry

    The Lap-Band subcutaneous injection port

This consists of a subcutaneous injection port attached to the tube connecting the Lap-Band. The port is placed, under the skin below the navel. Access to these ports requires the use of a non-coring needle known as a Huber needle. A non-coring needle will minimise the damage to the silicon rubber covering of the port and therefore reduce the risk of leakage from the port.

  7. I ASKED MY DR ABOUT THIS LAST WEEK AFTER READING ON IT HERE. HE SAID HE HAD A HOMICIDE DETECTIVE THAT HAD LOST 30 POUNDS IN 30 DAYS AND THE DR ASKED HOW HE’S DONE IT. HE SAID HE WAS TAKING HCG DROPS SO THE DR WAS READING UP ON IT. MY DR DIDN’T MUCH THINK ONE WAY OR ANOTHER ON THE SUBJECT AS LONG AS HE WASN’T DOING THE INJECTIONS HIMSELF BUT WAS HAPPY HIS PATENT HAD LOST WEIGHT.

I STILL WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU THINK THE HCG SHOTS OR DROPS ARE KEEPING THE HUNGER AT BAY? IS THAT THE IDEA OF IT? ONE WOULD THINK ANY 500 A DAY CALORIE INTAKE WOULD MAKE ONE LOSE WEIGHT FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME

  8. Just checking in since I haven't been posting much lately. I've been living with a very small fill and little restriction since I just kept getting too tight again and again. I've been trying to make really good choices and have to say, being banded all this time has really helped me change my relationship with food. Even though I CAN eat anything right now (and in pretty big portions) I choose not to and just don't care about food like I used to. I'm not perfect all the time, but I'm making the right choices MOST of the time and have even started to lose a little again!

Good luck to all the new faces I see on here.

    Sabrina:)

I'M FINDING THAT SINCE I'VE HAD GOOD EATING HABITS WITH A FILL FOR SO LONG, IT'S COMING PRETTY NATURALLY WITHOUT A FILL. IT'S ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT PORTIONS WITH ME BUT SO FAR SO GOOD

  9. Pammie and Lisal--

KIM I'D LOVE TO MEET UP ANY TIME. I'M IN THE FEDERAL WAY, AUBURN AREA. OUR SON GRADUATED LAST YEAR FROM WESTERN WASHINGTON UP THERE BUT I STILL MAKE TRIPS UP THE MALL TO SHOP. NAME A DATE :)

  10. Thanks for the info. I talked to Dr So last night and he said the same thing. He also said that it could be a sign of band slippage. I wish the fill centers did the fills with fluorescope. He wants me to get a total unfill and then come to Mexico in 4 to 5 weeks to have them check it out. I live in Florida so that's a long way to go. We have a doctor here that will do it, but it's really expensive. I'm not sure what to do, but I will try and get unfilled on Monday. It's going to be a long weekend because I've only gotten about 9 hours of sleep in 4 days. When I lay down everything comes up.

    KEEP HYDRATED!!!

  11. I had no problem with my band until 2 weeks ago. I can not eat any type of meat, actually i can't eat anything that i can chew. I called OCC they said stick to liquids for 5 days. Anyone out there with the same issue. I was going to go get my first fill last week but I cancelled due to this not eating solids. Help

THAT'S A GOOD PLAN BEING YOU HAVEN'T HAD A FILL YET

  12. I got a fill in November and had the acid reflux so bad that they unfilled for a couple of weeks. Now, three months later I'm miserable with it again. Went to my primary care doctor and got a prescription for nexium. Three days have gone by and still miserable. I don't know if it has anything to do with the band or not. Probably.

    New Dawn

DAWN, DID THEY DO A COMPLETE UNFILL? IF SO, GO IN AGAIN ASAP

  13. I haven't been here in a long time. I was banded April 26th.2007 at 240 lbs. (I'm 5'2",lost 20 lbs.before surgery!). I'm happy to say that I'm at my goal weight of 138 lbs. I'm haven't had a fill since Oct. So I was thinking that with summer coming on maybe I should get my band tweaked. You know have it checked. My husband said to leave well enough alone! My qestion I quess is what is the longest you have gone before you seen your Dr. again? The last fill was at the Fill Center in St. Petersburg, Fl.
