NSAIDs after lap band

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am going to be having Dr. Ortiz perform the lapband on me in September (killing me to have to wait so danged long...but can't get time off work any earlier) and my question for all of you is regarding NSAIDs. I have an autoimmune disease that requires me to take a significant dose of prescribed NSAIDs every day for pain management and it is my understanding that these are a big no no post op.

Do any of you take NSAIDs after lapband or does anyone have any words of wisdom for me? I am waiting to speak to my rheumatologist about this but it will probably be some time before that happens (like pulling teeth from a chicken trying to get in to see a specialist for anything here in Alberta).

I would greatly appreciate any advice!

Congrats on all of your successes... I cannot wait to join you all in this journey!

They used to think NSAIDS were a no-no but now that theory seems to have lost favor. Don't know what you're taking but I take aspirin without issue when needed. Ask your prescribing doctor as planned and then ask Dr Ortiz to confirm.

You should speak to or e-mail Carolyn, this should be discussed with the people at OCC. I had a similar situation and ended up having a telephone consult with Dr Ortiz prior to booking my surgery.

I agree with everyone else. Talk to Dr. Ortiz.

Maybe the weight loss will help and allow you to stop taking so many? Just a thought.
