  1. Julie!! my sister Merideth had to have her band removed 2 months ago. Hers was eroded into the stomach. You could see it with a simple endoscopy. It ate a huge hole in her stomach which was hard to fix. You MUST get it checked! If you have health insurance get an endoscopy and they can tell from that. Her symptoms were pain of course, and pain on eating too. Not be able to eat and terrible terrible heartburn. I can give you her e-mail if you want to talk to her about it. Good luck honey and I miss hearing from you!
  2. I eat nuts every day. My nutritionist said they are great in the diet - in moderation, and haen't had a single problem. Actually, almonds fill me up very fast. I eat 6 and am full! They are very fatty, yes but the good kind of fat. I also eat grapes and corn and even pocorn with no problems. THe onlt thing I definitely avoid is bacon. For some reason, even the tiniest of bites has me over the sink.
  3. I think a lot of those 99.9 percent are lying! It's easy to slip on the pre-op. Why wouldn't it be? Thats why the lap band was invented, for people who needed it! If you had 100 % will power, you wouldn't be getting a band. But, just try your best and if it helps, look at it this way - the more fat you lose from your liver by being on the pre-op, the quicker and easier the surgery goes. Plus, your recovery will be faster. And for Gods sake, don't so what I did!!!! I was afraid I would never be able to eat my favorite foods again, so I went on an eating spree at all my favorite places. You will still be able to eat wherever you like and whatever you like. It will just be smaller portions. I went hog wild because I thought it was the last time I could eat what I wanted and it just wasn't true. Knowing that ahead of time would have prevented me from going crazy. Anyway, you are going to need to post just as soon as you wake up because I for one, will be waiting to hear from you! And most important, say out loud several times a day: I AM GOING TO BE FINE AND THIS WILL BE EASY AND I WILL WAKE UP READY TO START MY NEW WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY!
  4. Wow, guards at the mall? I never saw them there before so that is interesting. But, it is nice to know they are there for protection.
  5. You sound like my sister, she loves them and watches every game!! I'll have to try to get her tickets. I didn't think they were affordable in the new stadium. I'l go check it out. Thanks!
  6. You just have to tell me how the new stadium is!! My sister has always wanted to go to Yankees game but couldn't afford it so last year for her 50th birthday I got her tickets and me and my husband went with her. It was one of the last games to be played in the old field. Although I am not as obssesed as she was about the Yankees and seing a game, I ended up LOVING IT! For her, it was a dream come true. She cried! She cried even more when for Christmas, I got her some of the old sadium dirt from the field and a piece of the carpet from the walkways in a nice framed plaque. A big deal for her. So, I though we ought to make a trip back up to see the new stadium. I heard the tickets were even more expensive at the new stadium so I am not sure what I can afford to get her. Paid close to $500 for the 4 tickets last year and not sure I can do that again. But would like to try. We are not too far from the stadium, about 90 minutes or so so we can easily drive.
  7. I'm not sure where they are, I can't find them.
  8. If you are convinced you won't wake up after surgery, then you are asking for trouble. STOP!!! Now turn that around and convince yourself that you will be fine and you will wake up with no problems! Best of luck to you and I KNOW you will be fine!!
  9. Please remember, the 4 americans that were killed were involved with the drug gangs. Most of the trouble there is drug and gang related. I've been there 4 times now, the last time this past february and I have felt very safe. Just stay at the hotel and you will be fine. If you do go out, just make sure to be back at the hotel before dark and stick to the main roads.
  10. I stayed at both places and they are both very nice. However, I prefer the Lucerna. They are more personable and I love the atmosphere a lot more. In fact, when I was staying at the Mariott in February, we ended up hanging out at the Lucerna to eat. If I ever go back, it will definitely be the Lucerna!! I've been to the Lucerna 4 times now and each time was wonderful! They really take very good care of you.
  11. Whenever I feel like this, I do go back on liquids for a few days and that seems to clear it up.
  12. I hear ya buddy! It CAN be very difficult to come here and read everyone's successes when you aren't seeing them yourself. I haven't lost much either, 40 pounds in just over a year. It IS very discouraging and you can't help but wonder why you are alone when others are losing. Believe me, I have had my share of disappointment with this band. I've been to SEVERAL doctors about it and it all seems to boil down to 2 things: 1) I am in menopuase and 2) some people just lose a lot slower and I am in both. Although my weight doesn't seem to change, my clothing sizes do. I FEEL better. I still eat what I like, but much less. Can't figure out for the life of me why the weight isn't flying off since I am eating so much less. And to see everyone else lose so much so quick can be maddening! But, I refuse to give up! As long as I don't gain anymore then I am happy. Not 100% happy, but 50% happy so I still think the whole thing was definitely worth it. I recently joined a gym and am working out VERY hard, not just walking a few miles a day like I was doing, but actually following the plan they gave me. I haven't weighed myself because I am too afraid to see the number but I am absolutely losing inches and I feel so limber and so good. I can bend over so easily now. Everything is so much easier. Why am I telling you all this? Because I know how you feel. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I know how hard it is to hear people tell you - "just keep at it", or "it will work if you do it right" or "my weight is flying off" (no offense intended). I know people mean well and try to encourage you, but I also know how horrible it feels when nothing is working. Not every person will lose like everyone else. But, you still shouldn't give up. I've read somewhere that it can take up to 2 - 3 years for it to work on some people. Look where you would be if you didn't do it? And, 30 pounds is nothing to sneeze at. I just don't want you to think you are alone, because you are not. I also don't want you to give up, because then you will be giving up on life and you don't want to do that! Keep your thoughts positive and try to think yourself thin. See yourself thin, act thin, dress thin, think thin. Be thin! It may take a year or more, but don't stop trying!!!!!! ((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))
  13. when you are out to eat and you oder based on how many lunches you get with the leftovers.
  14. Congratulations!!!!!! But.....I'm with the others, what happened, I thought it was off?
  15. HAHAHAHAHA this one drives me NUTS!! They just won't let you alone if you don't order something to drink.
  16. My sister who just had her band removed was scoped. Thats how they found out it eroded into her stomach. It was an endoscopy. Also, a breathing tube doesn't go in your stomach it goes down a different tube. I'm a little worried about what your fill doctor said. To say you shouldn't be scoped is really crazy. With the lap band, you really should get scoped yearly to make sure the band isn't eroded or any other problems. Besides, the tube that goes down there is smaller than your band so it will slip right through. Sorry, but I think your doctor is full of heffer dust! BUT>>>>>>>>nice to see you back here!!
  17. YO! 48 years old? You look like a teenager woman! And that could be your own baby there! And yes, like Tootsie said, thank you son for his service and he will be in my thoughts and prayers also! I've had lots of family members over there the past fews years too and right now 2 nephews are there and the worrying is awful! They both have young daughters at home and it is very scary.
  18. You will probably have to cut and paste this but it is well worth the read for your own comfort and peace of mind..... http://health.msn.com/health-topics/articl...2&gt1=31036
  19. I never said that, please do not put words in my mouth. I said her post was sensible and it was. It was not a panic filled diatribe like what I hear on the news every 5 minutes. This is a free country and thus, free to do as you please. Go or wait; it is your decision, do as you see fit.
  20. YEAH, good for you! Take care and remember to walk a lot! It's helps with the gas and bloating.
  21. Awww pooh, I can't see the pictures! But a huge congratulations to you anyway!!!!!
  22. Nice sensible post. I can't believe how the media creates such panic over a few cases. And none in the US have died and all of the New York cases are from one school anyway. It is highly unlikely you will catch it on your trip. Too bad I didn't know you were coming, I could have met up with you to say hi! I am only about 90 minutes from the city.
  23. Last I Hear, Dr. Ren DOES take Mexico patients.
