  1. I took a friend to a doc appt this morning and decided to hop on the scale to check my progress on my pre-op diet. Dr. Miranda had said I needed to lose 17.5 pounds before my surgery. I was pleased to discover that I am down 20.5 pounds!!!! I still have 17 days until I am banded...so I am going to see how low I can go before the surgery. Dr. Miranda is pleased with my progress so far and thinks it shows a commitment. YAY! My problem never really has been losing...it is not gaining the pounds back and have them bring friends. Yo-Yo dieting has been my life. It is time for a change! Anyone else having success on the Pre-op diet?
  2. I live basically in Orlando, FLORIDA. I figure I will take my camera and see if someone else who is getting married will shoot pics of ours and I will shoot pics of theirs. I will even provide the film. That way both couples get photos of their event. Elaine
  3. It will probably be either Friday or Saturday (one or two days after the surgery.) The offices are only open from 8am to 5pm on Friday or 9 am to 3 pm of Saturday. September will make 20 years that Cheryl and I have been together. We had a Holy Union ceremony 10 years ago, but that is not recognized by any state as a marriage. So, this will renew those vows and make it a government recognized marriage (even if it is not my home state.) We have waited so long for this!
  4. I have a question, how much are we able to move around (with minimal pain) the day after and a couple days after the surgery? I know pain is subjective and individual, but I need a reality check from those that have been there. I plan to get married in CA while we are out there and need to be prepared for what to expect. I will arrive at 10:25 am on the 18th and wonder how long it will take for pre-op stuff. If we are done early enough I could cross back over the border if we can get there before the office closes at 5 pm. Yeah, not likely to have time on the 18th. Surgery is the 19th so I figure that is out. BUT I figure it is possible to do it on Friday or Saturday. Thanks.
  5. Mom12, I have a couple of questions about your travel arrangement, if you don't mind. How long are you planning to be in TJ? My partner and I will arrive on the 18th and be there until the 23rd. BUT we want to cross back into the states to get married in CA. We are not sure how to work the transportation. So, any information would be helpful. Elaine
  6. We come into town on the 18th (my flight lands at 10:30 AM.) So, although we won't be in town much together, maybe we can meet up? When do you leave OCC? Elaine
  7. I am scheduled for June 19th and was told I need to lose 17 pounds. I started the protein drink for breakfast and lunch and lean cuisine for dinner. I have been doing that for about 2 weeks now and have lost 13.5 so far (and will weigh in next on Wednesday). So..so far so good. You can do it!
  8. You are coming to Orlando...I live JUST outside of Orlando. Have fun while you are here. I second the getting the takeout box at the beginning of your meal. and be careful what you order. I like the Glucerna chocolate peanut meal bars. It tastes like a Reeses cup only chewier. YUM.
  9. My scale at home is not accurate. Either that or I have lost over 25 pounds in the last week and I KNOW that is not possible. I have started attending a TOPS (weight loss support) group and the meetings are on Wednesdays. The meeting starts with a weigh in and I am using that as my "official" weight. I will look at the scale at home a couple times a week, but I can't go on what it says. So, tomorrow I get a new "official" weight that I hope will bring me closer to my pre-op goal weight.
  10. YAY someone else will be there with me. I have already started the pre-op diet. I am down about 5 pounds in the first week.
  11. Diamond Jim, My flight is supposed to arrive at 10:30 am on the 18th. So it sounds unlikely that we will cross paths. What airline are you taking? We are coming in on Southwest.
  12. Diamond Jim, When do you go home? I will be arriving on June 18th for my band. Elaine
  13. I figure the bandaid is probably fine, but the neosporin probably wouldn't hurt. So, FWIW that is my opinion. Elaine
  14. She is right about Lori being a wealth of information. As for Fills, Fill Centers USA will do fills on those of us with bands from Mexico. They have locations all over. If you pull up the web page for them you can see what ones are closest to you. Elaine
  15. Karen, I had asked about it as it was one of the questions I was "told" to ask. Lori told me that they have the equipment to do the baruim swallow and would if I really wanted it. I did not ask about the cost of it though.
  16. I have told my inlaws, my three sisters, and a couple of friends. After I brought it up, my MIL pulled out a couple of articles she had saved out of the paper for when I decided I ws ready. My FIL and baby sister were NOT thrilled with Mexico. FIL has been convinced by the research I did that it is all good, sister continues to think I am nuts. The other two sisters and one friend think it is wonderful. The sisters are looking at what I think of the process and location then may do it themselves. Another friend began to try to have me analyze what made me fat to begin with. The underlying causes of the overeating. She was told that "If I wanted to talk to a counselor I would have called one, so shut up." She actually responded with. "I am just supposed to be a supportive friend right now aren't I?" and when I said yes, she was ok with that. My 5 year old daughter was told I am going to see a doctor that will help mommy feel better. That is all she needs to know other than we love her and she is to have fun at grandma's house while we are gone. I showed her on the globe how far we are traveling.
  17. Ok, I have the furthest surgery date out so far, June 19th. I am excited! We will be staying a couple extra days so I hope I will be feeling up to seeing some of the city. I love playing with photography so I hope to get some good scenic shots in before I come home. I want to come home with some AWESOME photos. So, those of you there before me, if you see any great scenic spots, let me know. The walking around to get the photos should be good for me after the procedure. Elaine
  18. I am going to miss both of you in Mexico as my surgery isn't until June 19th. I guess I will just have to get to know you online. Hopefully as it gets closer more people with dates closer to mine will come on here. Elaine
  19. I am just starting the Pre-op diet even though my surgery is scheduld June 19th. My biggest fear right now is that it will get cancelled for some reason. I also have 17 pounds to lose and want to be sure I do it. I am not a huge fan of SlimFast. Does anyone know if we can use a Glucerna meal bar instead? They have one that is really good and If I can would like to include that in the plan. I guess I could until I get to the official pre op diet timeframe then go back to just the shakes. What do you think? Elaine (P.S. How do you put the ticker in your posts?)
  20. Jim, I assume your surgery date is June 16th. What date do you head home? I will be arriving on the 18th for my June 19th surgery. Maybe we will get the chance to run into each other there. I am going to start the pre op diet now as it can only make things easier on the Docs. I just got all my paperwork faxed in and made my plane reservations.
