when do I stop eatting?
julieburns replied to momonamission's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I feel a constant pressure which can vary to mild to severe right under my main incision site. I have felt that too many times so far so I am listening to what you are doing Dawn and want to stop BEFORE i feel that way. I do try to just take a few bites and then stop for a few minutes but I need to wait 10 minutes or so to allow my brain to catch up with my stomach. Don't starve yourself though and choose your calories carefully. My stomach does growl and my patients have gotten a good laugh at it at some of the worst/best times. Kisses to ya sweetie and stay strong. Now you're really being tested to continue on this journey for yourself and all who love you. -
JULY SURGERIES AND FILLS
julieburns replied to Dolittle's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I'm going for my first fill on July 17th. Anyone out there going to be there? If so PM me and we can hopefully meet up and have a chat and dodge a few cars crossing the street. I think that's a great way to lose some extra calories while shopping. Just every 15 minutes or so do a few sprints across the streets and your heart rate is up. Walk swiftly while shopping (also keeps the $$$spent down) and you're a winner 2 times over!!! -
My husband is jumping on the band-wagon!
julieburns replied to Kittycat's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Speaking of husbands, mine is losing weight too!!!He only need to lose about 20 pounds or so but that can be just as hard. He came out this morning and showed me how he could pull his jeans off without unbuttoning them. He was so proud and said to me he was doing this for me and because I've inspired him. He's been great support and I couldn't have done it without him. My favorite FF was Taco Bell and/or Wendy's burgers and fries with smoothie of course!!! -
Thanks everyone. I will remember all your tips. Hey Yorkiemommy I just booked my fill trip for the 17th and return on the 18th. I get in at noon and have a 1:30 appt at OCC. Probably won't get to the hotel until an hour or 2 later. I bet we'll just miss each other unless you have a late flight out. When do you leave on the 17th?
-
yeah what Jann said and everyone else too. I just booked my first fill at the OCC after much deliberation of where to go. Locally is only with no fluoro. I've been watching flights and today they went down by almost $70-90!! So when I aded it all up to go to TJ and stay 1 night is only $349 more than having it here at home with no fluoro so I just made up my mind to go. I am so sorry for your troubles and hang in there Kimmy you are too cute to give up!!!

I started out with my regular 1% milk I always have. I think Snowbird said it great in another post that for some things that could potentially hurt your band ask your Dr. or nutritionist. I don't think milk though can hurt your band it's a question of each individuals tolerance. Try just a little if you usually tolerate it and wait until tomorrow to know if your ok with it. Hang in there Erin. I also had the pregnancy like nausea stuff. It did eventually go away so again hang in there.

Important Question
julieburns replied to reallyshygirl19's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Does the term "troll" mean anything? Pointing no fingers>>> -
Today is the day, it's finally come, it is here... first SOLIDS!! Yorkimommy and Angela and Violet and Daddy too, Hello to any or all of you out there. Enjoy today I read momonamission's wonderful 1st day meal and it sounded great. I copied the salmon recipe to make tomorrow night. I am having steel cut oatmeal for breakfast which is sooooo good. Takes a while to cook but worth it. and for lunch it's Baja Fresh. This is a great mexican fast food joint that usus all fresh stuf and tastes very delicious. I will be careful to divide my food and not eat anything too spicy but I can't wait.

Question about exercise...
julieburns replied to C1BandedBabe's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Snowbird you really gave a great response. I think we all need to remember this especially important answer. Thanks for your clarity. Just and afterthought.........I remember being told by Dr. Ortiz no exercise of any kind except Walking for 3 weeks and then anything is ok EXCEPT abdominal work/crunches. I can only take from that that swimming is ok after 3 weeks but not before. When do you leave Trina? What time is your plane and what time do you get in? Thinking of you :-h -
Dear I AM WORTH IT: YOu say it in your name but I will try and give response to your questions. I am new at this but this is what I say to myself. 1. Is it worth it? Yes 2. I have lost 34 pounds in 8 months maybe I can do this on my own? Maybe but have you ever lost as much as you need to before and kept it off? 3. Am I worth it? Absolutely Yes, Yes, Yes. I have been fat my whole life, people like me this way? If they are youre true friend they will love you and support youthrough this. No one who is negative is really your friend. 4. Will I be able to succeed? Yes, but you'll have to work at it. It's not a magic cure but it works if you work it!! 5. Why am I afraid to be healthy and a normal weight? Years of being overweight creates a person inside who is scared to come out. We all have had many many reasons to lose weight and gain it back and lose and gain etc. To succeed we must not be afraid to go deep into our own head and figure out why. It's different for each of us. If you don't figure out why at least figure out what will trip you up and what will help you succeed. It's baby steps. It's small changes that you do EVERY day from this day forward to make this happen. It's trusting yourself to take care of yourself once and for all. You've already started the change process by losing the pre-op weight, but that just the beginning. Look at this a at least a year long project broken down into some sort of manageable goals, increments that will get this time by. It's ok to be afraid but don't sabatoge yourself. This is it...You have already started but keep on keeping on one day, one week, one hour sometimes, at a time. Remember we all deserve to be happy and healthy and they go together. Keep in touch and use this forum to motivate you.

Great for you Jim. I am still struggeling with the decision to go down to TJ or stay local with no fluoro and only $190 versus way more to go to TJ. Are you going to a place that uses fluoro or not? I am trying to get peoples rationale for where they go and why. Thanks.

Is this what they refer to as banster hell?
julieburns replied to sphynxmomma's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I am only 1 day, 24 hours, away from the same "hell". The weight loss has already slowed down for me. I know I need to start exercising every day to help this. Here's to each of our 1st fill days.....Cheers (lifting my glass of water high to toast!!) -
When does the port site stop hurting?
julieburns replied to Kittycat's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I'm not sure Cathy. I am at 19 days and I still have times when I am quite sore. It is getting better a few days at a time though I can assure you of that. We all heal so differently but the bright side is we do heal!!! Hang in there. -
Jann you are so funny...Ditto for me on the diet plan but only 46 hours 37 minutes and....not that I am counting until I get real food. I can't even make up my mind what to have though as I am sure I still need to be careful. This is when the importance of food choices really begins, again!!!

Making the Call - Any Advice
julieburns replied to DonnaJ's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Welcome to our forum Donna. Congrats on finding it. I was banded 19 days ago and as each day passes I am more sure about my decision. I found almost all the answers to my questions on this forum. It's good you found it before your surgery date. Just look through past posts and you'll be put at ease. If you don't find it just ask and someone will always answer. That's what is so great about this group.......we're all going through the same thing, in different ways though, but are here for each other. How did your call go? Did you decide on a date yet? -
Thanks Will for your reply. I certainly understand what you are saying and wish I could eat this delicious treat. I actually get Severe pain from extra gas sometimes but it has happened enough I can't chance it. To everyone in wendy's chili heaven just save my place as someday I may be able to try it....I hope.

I too welcome you. I also think Jann hit the nail on the head with "band thinking". I'm at 18 days today so we must have been there the same day or 1 day difference. I have had a very difficult time at times sticking to the creamy soup stage. I've watered down mashed potatoes with milk to soup like so I think that's ok. I've chip licked and chewed and spit and all the things you do trying not to blow it. You've already come a long way so just be careful in the next few days. What was your banding date anyway? Maybe we know each other. I think you'll find this forum to be sooooo helpful. I do.

A Copy of Dr. Miranda's Post Op Guidelines
julieburns replied to MamaMichelle's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
You've got it Trina. I think especially remembering the NO BLENDER thing is hard to do. I think there's a little conflict between what Dr. Miranda says when she says if you can drink it with a straw (no straws though) then you can have it and then Dr. Ortiz saying NO blenders. If any one can clarify this (perhaps Dolittle or another moderator person) it might help. BTW Trina I'm getting excited for your upcoming surgery day. Is it Thursday or Friday. Are you all packed already or still waiting. Been to Walmart enough?? LOL. I took way too much stuff and I only took 1 backpack, of course it was crammed but still could have taken half of it and the lighter the better. Who are you going with or are you doing it alone. Take care and I can't wait for your posts once you're out of surgery. They actually let you sit down at the computer there before you leave to post if you want to. That's when I actually really got excited about the forum. Again relax and have fun with it. You've read enough here I am sure to know all the rules which will only help your recovery. -
What a great idea Paula. I am not even to solids yet so have no plan really. I'll look for someone else to take this on and help us all out.

The chili sound great but I am a little afraid of the BEAN power in it. Even all blended up it still had the BEANS. You know the old saying BEANS BEANS BEANS The musical fruit that...... and we all know the rest. I seem to already have plenty of "Tooting" from both ends (I know, TMI) with lots of pain before so I will abstain from it even though with all the talk I would love some. Glad it works for some though, anything to add flavor and variety to a very bland time.

Ditto!!

I bet it does feel good to have restriction. I am about a month away from my first fill so it's good to hear there can be great results the first fill. Keep us posted.
-
I'm so excited for both of you, just wait and you'll know what i mean. Each time someone is going to get banded it reminds me again of my journey and where I am today...18 days post-op and down 12.8# from that day. Like Paula said just relax and enjoy with no need for anxiety or nerves. Easy for me to say but really it's true. The more relaxed your are mentally the better things will go. And if you're not relaxed they'll take care of that once you get in your room with the magic "Tequila" pill under the tongue!!!! No worries then

Welcome to this forum. I didn't really look at before my surgery and wish I would have. Almost any question you may have is probably here with numerous answers. Best of luck and keep us posted on how your pre-op dieting goes. My suggestion is to start a little sooner than 2 weeks since you have the time, maybe 3 so you don't have to be so under the gun to lose your weight. Just a suggestion. Again welcome Katherine

Anyone do Zoom whitening at the OCC?
julieburns replied to thesuse's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I had scheduled to have it done but the day of surgery cancelled it. I was afraid I might not be up to it even though its only an hour at most. I have had it done in the past in the US and only was about $50 more. I was happy with the results but all the posting each have some good advice in them. Check out your local prices also. I was glad I did not have it done the day after. I felt pretty ok but just the thought of another procedure where you have to sit in the chair somewhat confined was not my thought of a good time. Again I was glad I waited because I really needed to be able to move about as I needed to. I am somewhat of a wimp but just an opinion for you. Good luck and I'm sure you'll make the right decision for you.
