  1. I am so excited to meet someone that will be there the same time I will. My husband plans to have the surgery in April. I can't talk him into doing it the same time as me. He wants me to be the guinea pig. Are you and your wife coming in on the 19th? My husband and I are flying to San Diego on the 15th, renting a car, and driving to Anaheim to stay a few nights at The Grand Californian and go to Disneyland before the sugery. I intend to do my pre-op tests on the 19th. Good luck to you and we will all probably cross paths at some time on the 20th.
  2. I am so glad it was a good experience. I can't wait to hear the details. I hope you continue to do well. Kimberly
  3. I don't know what types of medication are acceptable, but, I have suffered from acid reflux for years. Nothing that I had tried helped for very long until now. My husband works for a division of Super-Valu that does their shipping. Occasionally, if a large box becomes damaged they let the employees buy the contents for a really cheap price. About two months ago, he brought home a few boxes of an acid reducer called Omeprazole. It is absolutely amazing. It comes in a 14-day treatment. I only took one - no heartburn or reflux for one week, then I took another one, same thing no problems for an entire week. I took my 3rd pill over two weeks ago and I am still heartburn and reflux free. My problem was so bad it would wake me up sometimes as much as four times during the night. A few years back I had to have a light put down my throat and I was told my esophagus was covered in old scar tissue from acid reflux. This Omeprazole is a miracle cure. No product has ever helped me like this has. Wal- Mart has it now. It is a "NEW" product. It is around $19.00 for a box that contains three 14-day course of treatments. When I go in for my pre-op the day before my surgery I am going to find out if it is acceptable to use after surgery.
  4. I haven't had my surgery yet, I am scheduled for Nov. 20th, but I have already started the Pre-op diet. Since Monday I have lost 7 lbs. I actually started dieting Feb. 25th. I weighed 252lb. On Monday I went to my weight loss Dr. and I weighed 237lbs. That afternoon I called the OCC and went ahead and scheduled my surgery. So, I went ahead and started my Pre-op diet. As of this morning I weigh 230 lbs. I have set a surgery goal weight of 210 lbs. So, back to the original post. I now feel "IN CONTROL" again. All the other things, are just a bonus.
  5. That's great! Every pound is a small victory. How are you feeling? I am scheduled to have surgery Nov. 20th. I am not the least bit nervous, I just really want to be prepared on what to expect. I am a teacher. I am having my surgery on a Thurs. In your opinion, how many days do you think I will need for recovery before I go back to work? I have a lot of sick days built up that I could use, but I don't want to be out any longer than necessary because my children need me. A substitute just can't teach them what they need to know. I would really appreciate your reply. Thanks, Kimberly
  6. Congratulations! Glad to hear you are doing well. I am scheduled for November so when you feel better I would love to hear all the details!!!!
  7. I made my appointment today. I am scheduled for Nov. 20th. I just printed off the health forms and my stomach is in a knot. I flip-flop between being happy and being terrified. :lb12:
  8. Thanks so much for the replies. I love to shop and I have heard bargains are plentiful in TJ.
  9. I spoke with Carolyn yesterday, but the deposit and payment questions were the ones I forgot to ask her about. I emailed her today, but I haven't heard back from her. A little while ago I played around on their website and saw that they do take credit cards, so I just need to find out if there is an extra charge for using your credit card. If so, I can do a certified check from my bank. I assumed the office at the OCC would not be open on Sunday, and I knew the folks on this forum would try to answer my questions for me. I am just so excited to have finally made the decision to do this for myself, that I couldn't wait until the OCC opened on Monday.
  10. I wasn't quite sure where to put this. I want to schedule my surgery for a Thursday. I have read that pre-op will be the day before. I am assuming that in my case, pre-op tests would be Wed., Surgery would be on Thurs., Back to hotel on Friday, then home on Sat. If this is the case, is there a little time for sightseeing in TJ? Would I feel like doing any after the surgery, like on Friday? Thanks for all your help. The short time I have been on this forum, I have been made to feel very welcome. Kimberly
  11. Thanks. I have the money in my checking account. Do you know if they take credit cards? I have a Disney Visa that I use for everything then pay off at the end of every month. I earn money to spend in Disney World by using the Disney Visa. I would love to pay for the surgery with my Visa just to earn the extra $$$$. If not, I could also do the PayPal option or send a personal check. Do you know if they take those?
  12. Thanks for the replies. I thought of another question. Do you pay when you schedule? Or is a deposit type of thing? How does that work? I have an appointment tomorrow with the MD that I used when I lost my 105 lbs. She prescribes phentermine. It helps some, but you still have to do the hard part. If I do decide to go through with this I will at least have a head start on the pre-op diet. My insurance wil not cover this so I have to pay myself. The money does not bother me, I know my mental and physical health is worth much more than the cost of the surgery. I am worried about the band slipping and then having to pay for a removal. That would be so dissappointing. What do you all know about the percentage of people who do have that type of complication? Thanks again, Kimberly
  13. I am 95% positive that I want to have this surgery. I have researched and I think the OCC is my best choice since my Blue Cross policy won't pay. I was thinking about having it done the week before Thanksgiving. Is there still time to get it scheduled? Also, what is the pre-op diet? When do you have to begin it? Are you required to lose a certain amount of weight before they will operate? I lost 105 pounds 10 years ago by dieting and exercise. I have slowly regained most of the weight. I got to be thin for 2 years, and I will not be happy until I am thin again. I still have all my size 10 clothes, and I really want to get back in them. The only way I lost my weight before was by not working for one year. I focused completely on diet and exercise. It became an obsession. I can't do that again. Answers and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kimberly
