  1. Don't worry about your weight until your first fill. You'll avoid MUCH misery that way during the period lovingly referred to as "Bandster Hell." Just worry about healing and getting better.
  2. If I drop a lot of weight in a short time my port site really hurts. It's because my skin hasn't had a chance to firm up and is putting extra pressure on my port. Sitting straight takes care of it but I'm soooo bad at it. To compensate I got a balance ball and use it as a chair at my desks when this happens. Maintaining my balance forces me to sit up proper and takes the pressure off my port site.
  3. Well, they did shove a giant needle in there. A little discomfort is to be expected. If start experiencing actual pain or signs of infection, then it's time to get worried.
  4. I'm not sure what you mean when you say your stomach feels dry. Does your throat feel sore and dry, is it something on the skin, or do you have an internal sensation? I agree with everyone else though, you should up your caloric intake to at least 1,000
  5. I use Firefox exclusively and it does an automatic spell check for me while I'm typing. Do you have the most current version? I'm at 3.0.1
  6. Be sure to let Dr Miranda know what you are doing to lose the weight. Your problem at this stage may be that you're not getting enough calories. She can offer suggestions on how to get the weight loss back into gear. Also, sometimes the effort to lose the weight prior to surgery is just as important as the actual weight lost. Don't sweat it, just do your best and you'll make it.
  7. Well obviously SHE doesn't have a problem with food, therefore YOU don't have a problem either, you're just not trying hard enough. Duh! Seriously though, the high and mighty do make our lives interesting don't they?
  8. The rule for the full liquid stage is that you can eat anything that goes through a straw. This includes things which melt in your mouth, like fudgecicles, and things which you've run through the blender until they are liquefied.
  9. Probably both. With the band, you won't lose as much right away as you would with bypass, but statistically after two years the weight loss is the same. You'll lose the weight gradually and in a healthier manner so you won't have as many nasty side effects such as hair loss.
  10. Not all doctors use intebation. It depends on your doctor and what they feel is necessary to get you through the surgery safely, so the sore throat afterward is not a given.
  11. Sounds like gas pains. The best thing for that is to walk for about 10 minutes. It sounds a little silly but it really works. It also has the added benefit of increasing your circulation which helps in healing. Time and time again I see on the boards that the people feeling the poorest after surgery and who have not had other complications are the ones who are letting themselves stay in bed all the time.
  12. I asked the fill Dr at OCC at my first fill and he said roller coasters were no problem even 8 weeks after surgery. Enjoy!
  13. For some reason when you said that I imagined the old cliche where the guy gets shot and the bullet is deflected by the bible/badge/whatever that the guy put in his pocket at the beginning of the movie.
  14. You bring up an important point since there's a BIG difference between seeking out money/extra sick leave vs. having it being spontaneously donated.
  15. I'd be a bit ticked if I donated money and found out I'd been lied to as to why, even if I would have donated the for the real reason as well. She didn't have to tell people exactly what it was for if she didn't want to but just flat out lying about it was certainly wrong. "I have a stomach problem and need emergency surgery. I don't really want to go into it because it's personal and kind of gross." Saying you're having digestive problems or women's problems are usually enough to trip people's TMI sensors. Not sure if it deserves termination though, especially since she repaid the money. What concerns me more is that she was loosing at the rate of 15 a week and then waited a month to go to the hospital. If I had ever lost 15 pounds in a week I'd be on the phone with the doctor in a heartbeat. You just don't go from fine to OMG TAKE IT OUT RIGHT NOW OR YOU'RE GOING TO DIIIEEE overnight. There are warning signs. On top of that after being told your band or your life she waited a week to get back to Mexico. Once again, if that was me I'd be down in Mexico and there'd just be a me-shaped cloud of dust here. Something's up with this lady, it sounds like poor judgment was used all around.
  16. There's always a break in period after I get a fill where I have to re-learn how to eat and what to eat. This could be what you're experiencing and cherries can surely be trouble what with the skins. Sounds like you irritated something with your last pb episode though and now you're sore and swollen. Go on liquids and soft foods for a few days and see if that helps. However if you can't get your liquids in then that's an emergency situation as its very easy to become dehydrated. Just sip sip sip all day as much as possible. Take it slow and steady and when you're feeling better and ready to start solids again be very aware of what's going into your mouth. If you can't "chew to goo" it's probably going to give you problems. If after being on liquids for a few days you're still sore or pb'ing more than three times a week, then you're probably too tight and need an unfill.
  17. Not at all, and I know other people who have either gotten banded or are seriously considering it after watching me go through it. But then I'm pretty un-embaressable and if anyone wants to debate the topic with me I'm happy to take them on.
  18. Call your fill clinic. Some clinics let people get a bit more put in or taken out for free or reduced price if they come back within two weeks after the fill.
  19. Ok, I see now. I guess I was thinking it was more of a healing concern rather than a scarring concern.
  20. Where did you read no sun for a year? I don't recall that guideline anywhere. That actually seems counter productive as your body produces vitamin D when you get moderate exposure to sunlight.
  21. Am I taking this too far?? No, no I don't think so . . .
  22. Eating solids at this point can do some serious damage to your band. It sounds like you're ok but you shouldn't do that again. You should be in the full liquids stage so you can try some soups with a little more body to them. You can even take whole soups and run them through the blender until they are the consistency of milk. You can also try yogurts or sugar-free fudgecicles which will give you the added bonus of having something to chew on. Right now you can basically have anything which will go through a straw. Your pains sound like gas pain. Some people use Gas-X strips but taking short walks throughout the day, especially after eating, will also help. The walking has the added bonus of getting your blood flowing which will aid in healing.
  23. Oh come on. You saw the topic title and still clicked on the link. Any TMI is your own fault
  24. Your data is stored on your hard drive which in all likeliness is unaffected unless your computer got hit with a power surge and that's the reason the motherboard got fried. If it was a surge then all bets are off, those things are nasty. Any thunderstorms in your area when it died?
  25. Yeah that sounds like the motherboard. Anything else would give you some sort of error message on the screen. Is your Dell still under warranty? I've had good response with them coming out and replacing the motherboard for a machine that was still covered by warranty. Otherwise you're SOL and will need to replace the motherboard. If you can get a new one straight across it shouldn't be too expensive - unless you have to pay for labor then it depends on your shop. Last time I replaced a motherboard it took me about two hours.
