  1. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't get my first pick which was Dec 28th, but I understand Dr. Ortiz will be gone during that time, so I can't be mad at that, everyone needs a break sometime..lol. So I will be having surgery on Jan 14th!! YAY!! Plus, one of my moms co workers and good friend of the family who is Mexican American, and owns a second home in TJ is going to show us around some weekend, so we can get familiar with everything before my actual date.
  2. Ok so I live in Southern Ca, and have been to TJ a few times, and so growing up and even now, I am always warned not to drink the water or eat the food, that you could get sick. My mom who is going to come with me, is so worried about starving down there because she won't eat the food..lol. I was thinking of bringing water bottles, but obviously we can't avoid the food if we are there for a few days. What do you guys think?
  3. Nevermind...looks like I am going to be able to get financing through my parents..YAY!!!
  4. Is sliming considered dangerous, like can you choke on it? What do you do when it happens in public? Do you have time to run to the restroom?
  5. Yeah, I am going to start this week drinking a Slim Fast for breakfast and lunch, an apple or other fruit for a snack, a healthy dinner, and maybe popcorn at night, and just drink 1 diet pepsi for the day. Then the following week, just drink 1 diet pepsi every other day. Then the following week cut it out completely. I won't start the lean cuisine meals until after Thanksgiving, I don't want to get sick of eating those, and plus they are expensive..lol
  6. Yeah, I have a cousin who was banded a year ago, and I remember being at her house, and she took a drink of a diet coke, and she immediately had to throw up. So I was definitely not going to risk drinking it when I am banded, it's just the pre-op diet I am worried about...lol. But I will start out slow, rather then go cold turkey. I don't know if I am really considered a yo-yo loser. I lost 25 lbs on weight watchers like in 1998 and then the only other large amount I lost was 30 lbs on weight watchers like 4 years ago, other then that, it's been mostly gain, and maybe a 5 lb or 10 lb lost here and there. However, I am going to start Monday, already bought my Slim Fast drinks. I figured Monday would be about the 8 wk mark of when I want to have my surgery. The only time I will have to cheat will be when I go to Vegas in 2 wks, Thanksgiving Day, and of course Christmas..lol. Thanks everyone for your input, you guys are the greatest!!!
  7. I am sorry, I keep making posts, but I keep thinking of new questions, and you guys are so helpful I am just trying to get everything in line and get all the information I can before I schedule my surgery date. Ok, so I have a concern about allergies. I am deathly allergic to several medications, penicillin (sp?) being a major one. How do the doctors handle that? I once heard a horror story about a doctor giving a patient who was out, penicillin, and they died from it. So I am really scared of something like this happening, especially if I am not awake to stop them. Do I need to write in on my body so they know or write on my gown..j/k of course...just makes me nervous!!
  8. I was already approved for that a few weeks ago, when I started doing my research. Does anyone know? Or should I contact OCC?
  9. I think the pre-op diet is going to kill me...lol I am addicted to Diet Pepsi, and I always have popcorn at night *yikes* Ok so slim fast or Boost, any others that you guys recommend? I think I may try it for a week, as kind of a trial run, starting next week, and then go from there.
  10. How soon is it recommended to start the pre-op diet? And is almost better to start even earlier then suggested? Also, what does it consist of? I have been reading on here about needing our liver size to shrink to make room for the surgery, and I have myself all worked up about it. I am really worried mine will be too big and I will have complications. AHHH!! I haven't even scheduled my surgery yet, but I am almost wanting to start the diet now..lol.
  11. Thanks to everyone for the information. I really appreciate it. I wished I would have decided on this before now, because with Thanksgiving and then Christmas, Nov and Dec are kind of out for me, and now I will have to wait for Jan One more question, as far as the port, (that's the thing where the fills are put through, right?) is it something you feel? I am thinking I might be paranoid of even moving with a foreign object in me..lol. Its not something you have to worry about moving in your body when your exercise, right?
  12. Hello - So I have been lurking around this forum for a few days now, and have looked at the OCC website a million times, and thought it was about time I posted. I am really wanting to have the Lap Band surgery. I looked into a few months ago, after my cousin and her friend had it done, and then I kind of put the thought aside, and now I am doing some more research into it. I guess the biggest challenge I face, is trying to pay for it. I am going to apply for the financing, however, I have horrible credit, so we'll see. Anyway, enough of that, I have some questions for you wonderful ladies and men. - What kind of down time is required, like for work. My job requires me being on my feet all day, with a lot of movement, like moving boxes, lifting, cleaning, that sort of thing. So I am trying to figure out how much time I would need to be off? - Also, I have read on here that OCC requires a $500 deposit. After you make an appt when is that due? - When I set up an appt, are they really booked up? Or can I normally get a date I choose? - Last question, I have a Walt Disney world planned for my daughter and I on Jan 31st, but I am thinking right now my health is more important, so I was thinking of post poning my trip till end of April or even May. Would going on such a huge trip matter. I know that is several months after when I would like to have the surgery done, but with the fills and everything, I am not sure if it's recommended you don't do anything like that because of the fills for several months. Ok, I am sure I will have more questions. Thanks guys
