  1. Beverly if you are having trouble losing then please email Dr. Miranda right away. She is wonderful, and will give you tips and support for what you need in your case. My daughter was having a HORRIBLE time before surgery and we were worried that she would not be allowed to have it either. She gave us some great ideas and the weight started to fall off. We both lost almost 20lbs each before surgery.
  2. I agree just call the OCC and a doc will either talk to you right then or call you back. I was surprised how available they were. In my case and my daughter we opted for the sleeve over plication (last minute change) because I am insulin resistant and she is hyperglycemic. For some reason, no doctor can say for sure, the sleeve is better for treatment of diabetes or one of the pre-diabetic conditions, like we have. In most cases it cures it or at least pushes it back by many years. Of course, your diet after will always be a part of the equation. We are quite happy with our decision. As a matter of fact, my daughter and I were laughing today because has we not just had surgery we would have "broken" our diet today. We live in Phoenix, 110 degrees, our a/c went out, so we have been miserable then we had errands to run in this heat and I hit EVERY red light and everything I tried to do went wrong. It was nice to not be able to "cheat" on a diet!! LOL We will be learning more and more about our issues for sure in the coming months.
  3. Feather, why can't you STILL use the airport wheelchair? They will take you through the security point and then on to the gate. On the return there will be someone RIGHT there to take you from the plane to the baggage area for the return trip. As long as you let them know you will be fine. I had to fly just after foot surgery and it was a BREEZE they were SO NICE and accommodating. I FULLY understand your fears about going alone, but now that I have done it I can honestly say it is QUITE doable. The only thing I would recommend is that the day before your surgery you get a few items that you will need after so you don't have to worry later about them. We had surgery on Friday and on Monday my daughter and I walked to the little corner store and bought some juice and drinkable yogurt it was not a bad walk at all. Please don't let the wheelchair concerns keep you from starting this new journey.
  4. Odi, don't let your dislike for veggies concern you. MANY people have a shift in the things they liked before vs what they like after. Just relax and go with the flow. And I know from talking to SO many people that the after surgery part is not nearly as scary as we think it will be. My daughter and I still can't believe how good we feel and we are 10 days post op right now.
  5. Liquids to go through pretty quick...nothing to slow them down. THAT is why drinking calories is SO dangerous later on. Water is always best.
  6. My plane leaves in three hours I lost 18 lbs and my daughter lost 16 we had 19 days to do it in. Can't wait....
  7. On another forum, one poster was going on and on about how dangerous plication is...well with my daughter and I scheduled it, of course, concerned me. She said one of the doc that was approved for the study in the U.S. quit doing it due to the 'dangerous results" I decided to contact the office to see if that was true...it was NOT. I have to remind myself as I read around the internet that EVERYTHING written on forum is one person's opinion...nothing more, nothing less. Often knowledge is helpful but I have found that one should be careful to not trust all that you read, most of what you hear and some of what you see.
  8. Kelly and docb, my daughter and I are scheduled for the 10th for plication. I look forward to meeting you when we are there. We are Laurie and Sarah.
  9. I do the plan 2 as well. My daughter and I both started she is down 8 lbs and I am down 14 now. We both have colds (surgery in 10 days) and hope we are feeling better before surgery. With this cold all I want to do is eat...that is the hard part not NEEDING food but WANTING food!!! I have had no issues with the pre-op diet but my daughter is hypoglycemic and has PCOD and she is having a pretty tough time. Last week one day at work, she began to shake so bad and sweat from her blood sugar going low that she almost passed out. A co-worker fortunately helped her to sit down (she was so confused from the low blood sugar she couldn't even focus to sit down) and gave her some food to eat. She took about 30 minutes to recover but then immediately felt horrible for breaking the diet. She works at a Chick-Fil-A so they gave her some chicken to eat. I told her that if she doesn't take care of her health FIRST there will be no surgery. It's hard for me to see her struggle to try to lose the 13 lbs before surgery and for it to go so slowly.
  10. I personally don't think carbonated beverages should ever be used. There is nothing redeeming about them. My hubby had gastric Bypass and kept off his weight UNTIL he started drinking them again. He now wishes that he never started back because he is having too much trouble stopping them this time. He only drinks diet and our doc says those are even worse for you than the sugary ones. Guess it is rough with diabetes (he stopped being diabetic for 4 years after surgery but it came back in the past year).
  11. Oka, I am on the pre-surgery diet now and so far in 8 days I have lost 13 lbs. I have to lose 14.5 before surgery and it is scheduled in 11 days. My daughter has to lose 13 but unfortunatly she isn't doing as well as I am. She has lost 7 in the same time frame but I think her cycle has messed her up some. Once hormones are out of the picture she should drop a few lbs from that alone. The diet seems to work best in my opinion when you have the one meal a day about 1-2 oclock. Then we have the salad about 4 and the protien shakes about 10 AM and 6 PM. I can honestly say that I have not been that hungry, I still desire to eat but I wonder if that will ever leave me. So hoping the surgery will take some of the desire for food away.
  12. We have been using our magic bullet and love how easy it is.
