  1. Hey Peeps!

    Is anyone out there? :)

Anyway, looking for some details on the post op diet schedule.

I am scheduled for surgery this monday, July 2nd. I am 5'7" and weigh anywhere from 210-200 depending.... ha ha ha. I'd love to loose 50 lbs, but would be very pleased with 40. I have been overweight since having children.

    Thanks in advance!

    Meredith

I think the post-op diet is available from Dr. Miranda @ the OCC, call her and she should be able to help you.

  2. I am scheduled to have gastric Plication on June 18th. I am a little concerned because of my age.

Your profile didn't list your age,, may we ask? But it really doesn't matter, when it comes to doing something about your weight issues, better late than never. I was 54 when I was banded and I still say it was the smartest thing I ever did next to marrying my wife.

  3. Hi Everybody,

I know this might sound silly, but....

I have my Revision surgery (lapband removal & vertical sleeve) scheduled for Monday, Sept 10, 2012. I will be flying into San Diego on Sunday, Sept 9th early afternoon and departing on Saturday, Sept 15th early afternoon.

I implicitly trust OCC and Dr. Ortiz... and know I couldn't ask for a better surgeon or center, but I have been feeling anxious about being alone for my surgery and then 5 days at the hotel by myself.

A good friend of mine has volunteered to go with me... I didn't ask, but I think she knows that I need/desire the moral support. She just told me that she wants to go with me and I am feeling so much better and feel alot more relaxed about my upcoming experience knowing that I will have a friend to hold my hand if I need it.

The only hiccup is that her husband is worried about her traveling to Tijuana. I have had no such qualms... but, would love to pass on some positive feedback on how our safety is not an issue.

Any suggestions or thoughts... I would greatly appreciate them!

    Thanks for listening.... Dottie

I swear that every 6 months someone brings this topic up. LOL. But like every big city in the world, bad stuff happens. I live 160 miles west of Chicago and for curiosity's sake I went and Googled "how many people were murdered in Chicago yesterday" and found this report.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/21/chicago-violence-at-least_n_619259.html . 52 shot, seven dead, over a weekend back in June 2010.

Did it stop people from going to a Cubs or White Sox game, or families going to the Museum of Science and Industry? Nope,, in fact, I don't remember hearing anything about this till now. The OCC goes to extreames to make sure everyone is safe and it stays that way. For last 5 years I've moderated this forum, I have never seen a post or heard of anyone having a problem in TJ.

  4. Hi, so many questions... Had lap and surgery, , did great, then it slipped. Taken out. Now contemplating plication. Please give me all, any info. Very much appreciated. Did anyones insurance cover it. How long was surgery? Recovery? How ant eating for first month? Gas? Pain? Length of hospital stay? Complications? Thing website doesnt tell you? Weight loss? Fas or slow? Thank you so much.

You should contact the OCC surgery coordinator, she should be able to answer all these questions. Call Lori at 1-866-376-7849 ext 81

  5. My wife just had a lower body lift done by Dr. Iteld in Oakbrook IL last fall. She just had her inner thighs done last week by him, he did an awesome job. I had my lower body lift done at Cosmed, I'd never go back there. You got to look at the cost of airfare, hotel expense, etc, by going to MX. I know the plastic surgeon at the OCC is doing great work, but add up all the costs and see where you come out before you make a decision. Plus, is that surgeon doing great work? You get what you pay for, plus, you got to consider where your going. The OCC is someone you can trust, you had your WLS done there, Dr. Ortiz isn't going to let some half ass plastic surgeon do anything on you. But, if you can't make it to the OCC, "DO YOUR HOMEWORK" there's a lot of good plastic surgeons out there.

  6. Hi Everybody,

I am having my LapBand removed and Revision Vertical Sleeve surgery in September. OCC mentions that revision patients may be required to have additional testing preformed prior to surgery including a barium swallow and endosocopy. There is an additional fee for this.

I was wondering of you all out there that have had the Revision surgery, did you have to do a barium swallow prior to surgery? Just trying to plan my finances and wondering what the chances are for this?

    Thanks!

    Cheers, Dottie

Check with Lori, she just had it done.

  7. I found a delicious recipe for healthy creamy salad dressing.

One part jalepeno mustard + one part balsamic vinegar (use as much as you need to top a salad or even lean proteins). Mix ingredients with a fork and voila you have a creamy delicious low calorie salad dressing with a kick. You can even use any other types of mustard.

Hope this easy recipe helps liven up those in a salad rut :) If anybody has any other low calorie salad dressing recipes please post

I'd like to find a recipe for low calorie creamy garlic.

  8. I'm very excited. My surgery date is quickly approaching.

April 2 is just 8 days away.

I just realized...duh...that I will need a bariatric dr. here at home for follow up. Did any of you have trouble finding a bariatric dr. in the US willing to take you on as a patient AFTER the surgery?

Also my insurance turned me down for the surgery. have any of you had experience with the follow ups.Did your insurance cover the cost of follow ups, such as check ups, and tests after the surgery?

    debra

Aftercare is one of the problems with having WLS in Mexico. You need to contact your surgery coordinator and ask if they have any doctors on their list that practice in your home area and accept new patients.

  9. I forgot what the pre-op diet was, can someone post it? It has been a year since surgery and I want to do it for about 2 weeks to kickstart again.

You can email Dr. Miranda and ask her to send it to you via email.

  10. under my name it says warn status does anyone no what that means?

If you post anything that doesn't have any value or doesn't pertain to WLS, like hyper links to sell stuff at other websites, or promote other agendas, or bully other members, stuff like that, we'll ding you with a warning. Or depending how bad you were, we could just block you from futher posting. Being a moderator here at the OCC, I will usually first edit your post and send you a email stating what you did and why I did it. If we do give you a warning, that bar under your screen name will start turning red in color. All the members of the OCC Forum will see this and know that you did a no-no. We just want this to be a nice friendly forum and members contribute meaningful-educational posts.

  11. I have had the lapband for almost 3 years. It helped me get a lot of weight off but I am having just one problem with it. There are times when I eat that the roof of my mouth gets these bumps which are painful and last for a few minutes. What is this caused by? Please help me, I have had my band unfilled thinking it was to tight but it still happens not as often but still happens.

Sounds like an allergy? I'd call the OCC and talk to Dr. Miranda. She's the food Goddess.

  12. Hello everyone :)

I'm a teenager and i'm considering having a lap band procedure done. I was just looking for some feedback from people who have had the surgery. How much weight did you lose, and how long did it take? what are some of the restrictions that the surgery has had on your life? what kinds of foods and drinks are you not allowed to have? Any additional feedback is more than welcome :)

    Thank you!

I was a very fat kid when I was a teen and young man in college. I topped out at 350 lbs in college. At age 53 I made a decision that changed my life, I was banded March 2007. Now I'm down to 200 lbs. My only regret is that the lap band wasn't available when I was young.

  13. Would love to hear others experience with Dr. Lugo and the Dental-Art Clinic? I need a root canal and I am hoping this pain is not an abscess. The office quoted me $280. My local doctors charge around $1600. Did Dr. Lugo do your work? Did you have success. Or are you using a different dentist suggested by the OCC?

At one time the OCC had their own dentist in house, but there just wasn't enough busness to keep her busy, so Dr. O decided to use that office space and started offering Plastic Surgery services. When this happened they were referring their patients that needed dental services to Dr. Lugo. I had some dental work done by the Dental-Art Clinic when I was in TJ having my band checked. I had a couple crowns done at that time. They did great work and I was very pleased. Infact, I was thinking about having an implant done by them. My only problem is that I live in the Midwest and airfare is taking away all of the savings. If I catch get a deal from Southwest out of Chicago, I'll be heading there to get that implant done.
