  1. I'm surprised they don't put more emphasis on strenght training. As you build more muscle your body burns more calories at rest. A combination of both would be the most effective when shedding the fat. Strenght training would also help us women from getting osteoperosis. I enjoy strenght training, you don't have to do free weights just the machines will make a world of difference and as you lose the fat you will be able to see the muscle definition, it looks great. And don't be scared to put the weight up, you'd be surprised as to how much you can lift or push.

  2. One of my great losses after going back to solids is soup. I love soup.. I make soup.. broccoli cheese, vegetable beef, bean soup, chicken noodle, chicken and dumplings, matzo ball... I love soup. But, it is mostly liquid, and I just worry about it being too liquidy.

Another issue I have is with casseroles or things like tuna fish. I am used to making tuna with apples, sweet pickle relish, elbow macaroni, zero fat mayo and tuna. How do I pick the protein out first? then the fruit? the pasta? It is the same with any spaghetti meal or casserole. I just don't know the solution, and I don't want to give up some of our family staples.

Even with a regular meal, it is hard not to use one of the veggies to moisten the meat while I chew.

    Suggestions? Solutions?

Dr. Miranda told me to separate the foods until I am use to how much to eat of each, then I can mix then up.

  3. Mona,

I totally hear what you are saying. I needed this tool because I eat too much, so by feeling full and uncomfortable I will stop eating. I'm only on my first week since being banded so I can't attest to some of the hardships that people are going through since their fills. I'm just praying that the fill will work for me. Doing this 3 weeks on liquids is going to be hell. I'm quite hungry right now.

good luck to you, and hopefully you will reach your sweet spot soon ><'

  4. I have always been under the impression that even with the band, I would still continue to diet until I've lost as much weight as I'm going to. Isn't that why it's called a "tool" and not a "miracle weight loss" band?

I'm not talking about you Lisal, ><' but of others I see here who talk about the big meals they can eat and all the bread, etc.

I just don't get it. Why are people still eating the same meals they ate before?

Dr. Ortiz told me before I was banded that some people "test" the band to see how much they can eat and that these are the people who have the least success.

Did any of you hear the same thing?

    Jena

Dr. Ortiz told me the same thing. By eating too much we are stretching our pouches.

  5. I was banded on the 27th. I had my pre-op work done the same day as surgery. Got there around 9am went through the paper work and tests pretty quickly. I think surgery was around noon. I was tired after surgery and did not have the energy to do anything else that day except watch some tv and sleep. Don't remember much of the day. Day after surgery I was stiff and felt bloated but was able to walk around pretty good. We walked down to the cantina and had some margaritas (not too smart on my part but they were delish). I couldn't walk very fast but was able to get around fine. Maybe you can also have your pre-op and surgery the same day so your first day in San Diego you can get married.

    Good luck

  6. Hi,

I was banded on the 27th and I have had that problem off and on. If you are drinking juices it can do that to you. Make sure you are mixing half water half juice. I wouldn't worry about it unless you can not keep anything in. As long as you are hydrated you will be ok.

10lb loss is great I'm down about 5 lbs. Feeling pretty good and not too hungry although there is some discomfort on my left side but that's expected.

    Take care

  7. Here I am in SD doing the tourist thing. I've done really well on the eating front except for today, I actually ate at the pub. Grilled chicken sand with a little bit of potato salad. Back to the diet tomorrow. This pre-op diet has been hell on earth and i've been starving. I have no idea if I dropped that 1lb that I needed to but I guess I'll find out on Tuesday.

Wish me luck everyone I will check in tomorrow. Surgery on Tuesd.

  8. Momonamission-

What is Biotin? Is it a shampoo sort of product or oral supplement?

    Thanks!

    Amber

Biotin is an oral supplement. Cheap here in canada. I have taken it for many months (doubled the dose) but did not see a difference in thickness of hair.

I lost 80lbs in '04 and my hair got really thin. My doctor said it was because I lost the weight so fast (7mths) and my body had not adjusted to the lost. It has never been the same even though I gained most of the weight back.

I don't think its about how much protein we are taking in because I was on Atkins in '04 and my diet had plenty of protein. That being said it obviously has something to do with our diets. We are deficient in something.

  9. The time is ticking!!!!!!!!!!! It's almost here!! It seems like a life time ago that I booked and now it's right around the corner!

How is the pre-op diet going?

Well it was all good the first 5 days. I lost 5 lbs. Then...the next week only one stupid pound. Then the long weekend hit and I went out Sunday and had a few beer, ate out and continued on to Monday. #-o So of course I gained with water retention, up 4 lbs. Tuesday I started the liquid diet, I had no choice. As of today I lost 2 of the 4 gained. So hopefully I can keep this up, I will be in San Diego 3 days before surgery so that is going to be tough. I will try my hardest. :((

  10. I know there's 4 of us canadian gals getting banded between May 27 and 29th. Anyone else staying at the Lucerna on those dates. We need some shopping buddies. I'm actually getting done on the 27th so I will be at the hotel on the 28 & 29 but my lonely friend will be at the hotel on the 27 while I'm getting done.
