  1. You can write it off if the doctor is licensed in their jurisdiction. I read some of the act and it said surgery in canada or outside. I know when I had a tummy tuck I was able to write that off as well, but that was in canada. there's a lot to read but I googled; tax write off, surgery outside of the country. There's a lot of info on the US laws but eventually I got some canadian information.

  2. I am from Canada and was just checking the website from the Surgical Weightloss Centre, in Ontario, and their forum. As I am reading the posts I realize that the people there are continuosly getting fills and de-fills. Now with you guys I don't notice this at all. Is something different here? Maybe it's included in their price so they do a tiny bit at a time. I'm not sure, but it does not seem reasonable the way they keep having these done. What do you think?

  3. Wow, Great book. It actually scared me and made me think whether this is something I am willing to go through for the kind of results they are talking about. In their studies 10% of people only lost 75% of their access weight, and 5% gained. Those numbers don't seem really high considering the possible risks. I also have to accept the fact that I will have to go back at some point and have something adjusted or removed, and of course that will cost money.

I haven't given up yet. I'll keep being inspired by everyone's success stories and keep researching.

  4. I'm just concerned that it will not help me control the amount I eat. I do want to feel full if not I tend to pick at food all day. My last big weight loss was in '04 where I lost 80lbs in 7 months, doing Atkins, but it came back because I started to eat the bad carbs again and I would eat a lot of food. If I am feeling full then I feel satisfied and stop. I am hoping that this will help me with that feeling for life. I know all about eating the right foods but my self control is not always there.

Just reading some of the posts here makes me a little worried because people are being so careful with what they eat. I would think that you get so full from any meal that you would not want to touch anything until your next meal. That's what I'm looking for. Any of you feel full like that?

  5. I'm curious if this procedure is for life? Do we need to get something else done along the way.

If the band is at its maximum fill can you start gaining weight? or does your stomach expand over time? I want to feel full after eating that's the only way I seem to stop myself so I'm hoping that this band will give me that feeling.

I also heard that there are different size ports, one being a low profile. If that's true why wouldn't we get the low profile from the begining. I really don't want to have the procedure done again to change something.

  6. I know that walking is going to be good exercise but I also workout with weights. Is there a restriction on this? I read about not doing sit-ups for 3 months. I do the circuit machines with a good resistance.

What about.........sex? How long do you have to wait (husband question). Can you shift stuff with the activity?

  7. I'm from eastern canada and its quite a trip to go back to mexico not to mention the cost. How important is it to have your first fill at the clinic? What kinds of things can happen if I go somewhere else. Does anyone know why they can't do a fill when its done. Do you still get really full even if you don't have it filled? I guess I'm just a little confused on the purpose of the fill.

Boy its tough when you get prcedures away from your home town.

    please enlighten me :-?

  8. Hello everyone,

I am thinking on doing the lap band procedure and this forum has been very helpful to put my fears at ease. I am wondering about a few things and maybe you guys can help me out.

    1. I was reading that you stay 2 days at the clinic and 2 days at the hotel. Is this correct?

    2. I am assuming that the hotel stay is covered by the price but can your loved one stay there with you as well? How about when you are at the clinic? I'm assuming you have to pay for a room at the hotel for them?

    3. What price did you pay for the procedure? I know that in Canada its $16,000. There's a company that can arrange all the details here and they are saying around $8,000 to go have it done at the clinic.

    4. I am concerned about the port. Can you see this through your skin? Where is it located?

    5. Do you wear this port for life? Does the procedure have a life span?

    6. How filled was your band at first? How long before your next fill? How many fills do you actually need?

    7. How long did it take you to get an appointment?

Any information would be appreciated. I'll keep reading your posts they are very informative.

    Thanks

    Sue
