  1. Hello, this is sunshinegirl (sue) and I live in Halifax, NS, Eastern Canada. I am 40 yrs old with no children, and co-own manage 4 homes for special care. I've been overweight most of my life and tried every diet going. I need to get control on how much I eat and the band will hopefully be my saviour. I lost 80lbs in 2004 on the Atkins diet but once I lost the weight i thought that I could control my eating but instead I started to gain back the weight. I tried a few times to get back on a low carb life style but it did not work. I love junk and don't like to cook. I looked great (my avatar pic) but it was not enought to override my desire to eat. I love to travel and usualy go to the caribbean every year, so as you can imagine its difficult to look good on the beach when you are overweight. I have a wonderful husband and he stands by me with every decision. He is not overweight and encourages me to exercise. We both enjoy lifting weights (him a little more than me) and I've seen the effects of strenght training when you lose the fat around the muscles (you look awsome!!) and I desire that look again. I am excited about this procedure and can't wait to start my permanent weightloss journey.

  2. I can't come in the Summer but I will be down there for a vacation from Sept 9 - 17. I'm also thinking on going for a fill, since I'm close to San Diego, and have everything checked out. I'm planning to have my first fill close to home by a nurse. I live in Eastern Canada so Tijuana is a long way to travel.

Does anyone know how long it takes to drive to Tijuana from Vegas?

  3. The pain I keep reading about....is it trapped gas or are you able to release it? (is it smelly, sorry) I know that there are pills available for this and gasX strips. If some of you took the pills were you able to crush them? I know that they are stronger than the strips.

This is the part I am not looking forward to.

  4. Personally I am a big believer of protein. I've read that its normal to have .5grm per pound of body weight and if you workout you should be taking in 1gram per lb. I did Atkins in 2004 and lost 80lbs in 7 months, but I workoud out 6-7 days week. With a higher protein diet it cuts back on cravings and hunger it was quite amazing. I started eating a lot less so I was actually not taking any more protein in than a healthy amount since I was exercising. I was also pre-diabetic before Atkins and use to get sugar lows all the time. Once I changed my way of eating it all went away and I didn't have any lows until the last 6 months. Not a good feeling. Of course, I was not able to stick with my new lifestyle and the junk came sneeking in. Those cravings came rushing back and I haven't been able to go back. I am hoping with the band that I will feel full. I need that feeling because I eat too much and by having something there to keep me in check is hopefully the answer. Weightloss is getting to be a little tooooooo expensive. In the past I've had lipo-suction and a tummy tuck. thank goodness for an understanding husband

Of course if any one has kidney problems they can not do a high protein diet. Blood work should be done to make sure everything is ok.

  5. I was concerned about having my surgery on the 28th and having to fly out in the middle of the night on the 29th(early morn. of the 30th) so I changed my date to the 27th. By only being there 1 1/2 nights scared me and I feel better if I'm there 2 full nights after the surgery. So now I will get there in the morning of the 27th for the pre-op stuff and then have my surgery.

  6. I am dialing 1-619-330-2077 and I can hear a message on the other end saying to press 1 to leave a message. I called the clinic and she said to press option 2  . I'm not sure what that means. With my fax machine at work I dial the number and press send, just like any other fax machine. Then I get an error message saying its busy??? I'm at a loss here.

    any one else had troubles?

  7. I was looking at the 3 different options for the pre-op diet and I think I want to go with the Atkins induction. It would be extremely difficult to just drink 3 protein shakes a day. I lost 80lbs on Atkins before and I'm very comfortable with the Induction phase. Of course it will have to be tweaked because atkins allowed fats and told you to eat if you need to. The beautiful thing about this diet is that you lose all cravings a few days into the diet. Of course cutting back on the fat might make a difference.

What option did you follow? Did you still have coffee?
