Thank you all for your replies, It makes me feel a bit better. I am going to try to cut back ( i am not a heavy smoker anyway) before the surgery. Then hopefully I can go a couple of days right before. i am waiting till the kids go back to school so I do not get balistic on them.

Yeah, I know the health risks of smoking. I hate that I am a smoke but alas, I do. I quit smoking about 3 months ago and gained a whopping 15 pounds in one month. I started back up soon thereafter. Anyway, The preop diet says that we are suppose to not smoke in the two weeks before surgery. Just wondering if anyone knew why. I am not sure that I can both diet and not smoke

WOOOOHOOOOO This woman is my Mascot. wow, BRILLIANT! I sat in a corner and cried for days when I was cheated on. This would have been AWESOME. Not to mention getting a little cash out of the whole deal. BRAVO

Just said goodbye to my last buffet. It was not as good as i thought it would be. I think my way of thinking is in the process of changing. I don't want to be a pig anymore. I am so ready for this surgery it is sick. I am sure when i start the pre-op diet tomorrow, I will be wishing i had enjoyed the last buffet but.... anyway congrats on the success with the pre-op, I sure hope I will be able to do the same. You are a strong mother!!! You are trying hard to do what is right for him. 4 days away from him will be a lifetime with him. As far as what people think, I had the same situation happen to me at a grocery store. 5 years ago but this time it happened at my husbands place of employment. Someone mentioned to my husband there was a freak child in the store and the next second I called my husband on the cell phone, begging for help. He was in a meeting and could not come, but I had to leave my full shopping cart in the middle of the isle and leave with my son kicking and screaming. I got home and cired like a baby. ( my son fell asleep on the way home, lucky for him) My point is, It happens to all of us. It helps to be in shape to handle all of these things. You are doing something for yourself and for him. Anyway. i will be with my mom and she is a bit nervous about being in TJ alone one night. SHe has been there before and remembers the market area. She could use a friend. WOW!!! You and I have such a similar story. My husband and I are fighting about the whole weight issue. He has made it abundantly clear that the weight I have gained in the last years has been rough on him. (I cannot blame him, it was false advertising on my part) It was my idea to get the surgery, his idea to go to mexico. I want to lose the weight for me, don't get me wrong, but it is difficult for me to accept that he cannot accept me for me. HE now is rethinking the mexico thing because of the response of others who know about the surgery. I wish I would not have let anyone else know. I get banded on the 3rd of Sept, would love to hear from others who are going to be there around the same time I am. Thanks again for all the posts, it is what is reaffirming my decision.

Thank you all for your great advice!!! My mind is at ease (almost ) but I have been on this forum for a few days now and am feeling much better. The family members aren't understanding the pure volume of positive responses coming from the OCC clinic. I hope to get to know as many of you as I can during this time. thanks again.

hi all, i am a newbie and I have a scheduled surgery for sept 3. Upon learning of the surgery, my family and friends have completely fREAKED out They are so against me going to mexico for medical treatment that they are to the point of begging and crying. I have done research on Dr Ortiz but I could use some encouraging words. Such as aftercare, or if there is a problem after surgery etc. Thanks

Oh wow, i just scheduled my surgery for Sept 3!!! I am new to this whole thing and am hoping to get some encouraging news from other banders. I have been overweight all my life and have tried and failed EVERY diet i have ever tried. i am now at the highest I have ever been and am ready for a life changing event. i realize that the band is only a tool and not the miracle cure but in the back of my mind, I still feel like I will fail this too. Do others feel this way as well? i really am beginning to get nervous....I love food.
