    Before and After

  4. So the days are ticking by, slowly with this whole liquid thing! I have to admit I broke down and had a meal tonight. I got a terrible sinus infection and upper respiratory infection and the lack of nutrients was really compromising my immune system. Anyway, I am feel much better now and ready to tackle the next two days of liquids only and fasting. I am supposed to fly into San Diego on Tuesday morning and have my pre op tests done Tuesday followed by surgery on Wednesday although I am pushing to have both done on Tuesday. I can't imagine fasting for all day Tuesday and the next day with not even water to drink. Is that even healthy? On a side note, I have been filling out Valentine's Day cards for my two little kiddie poos and my husband and getting teary eyed. Okay, not just teary eyed, full on ugly cry. I can't help but feeling like this might be the last thing they get from me. I mean, what if I die during the procedure?! I know it's probably over dramatic, I do, but I can't help it. I can't imagine having to lose my life over extra weight that I probably should have been able to loose on my own. Arghhh, I just want this surgery done and over with so I can stop fretting and get on with the new self. A healthier mommy who feels good about herself ya know? Keep me in your prayers, I need em'!
  5. If it helps any, I called OCC really open to any of the WLS and they said plication is really the best that's out there. The patient coordinator Lori was banded but she said if she were having WLS now she would have done plication. While the band can and does work, I think the plication gives you all the benefits and less of the complications although I don't have a band and am only going off of what I've read from others on this site. I think most on this site are happy with their plications. I have only seen a few who aren't, and by a few I think two. As ktb said, many banders are going back for revision surgeries. I do not want to go through this process again that's for sure! I am scheduled for plication on the 16th so I'll let you know how it goes. At the end of the day, I think that all of these WLS options are highly effective. You'll notice a common theme for many of the posters, whatever surgery they've had or have chosen sorta becomes their tunnel vision, it becomes difficult to be objective. The same applies to me, I am convinced plication is right for me so it becomes difficult to recommend anything else, but I have to remember that it may not be for everyone. It's really going to be up to you and your research to feel comfortable.
  6. I too originally planned on getting the band but soon realized that plication is a much better option for me, although there are lots of people who have had success with the band. The band seems to have a high rate of slippage, which is basically when a part of the lower stomach gets caught up in the band. This can cause all sorts of problems. Many people on this site who have had the band are now going back to have revision surgery. The band also has lots of food intolerances and things like sliming and or throwing up. The plication has zero food intolerances and there is not an issue of slippage or sliming. Plication is less invasive than say, gastric bypass or VSG, but has the same weight loss which is an awesome plus! I am scheduled to have the plication done at OCC with Dr. Ortiz on Wednesday, so I'll let you know how it goes! Good luck with your decision.
  7. Oh! That make sense now. Yes! I leave on Tuesday morning. I am supposed to have pre op tests on Tuesday and surgery on Wednesday. I emailed them today to see if I could possible have the tests and surgery all in the same day since I am getting in so early on Tuesday. Fingers crossed they say yes!
  8. Fighting the fear and starting to become excited for a changed life. I hope I am not one of the ones who doesn't lose weight!

you won't be one of those who wont lose weight if you don't let it happen. We all know the formula to lose weight... eat healthy and excercise... WLS just helps you do it. :)

Hey if my memory hasn't been totally lost, I'm pretty sure your surgery is today Tuesday...thinking of you, and sending you lots of positive energy. Remember........initaslly gas is an issue, so when it happens, don't panic it's normal. K:):)

  9. Yes she did have a band before maybe that's why. Did they tell you to see your U.S. doctor for anything in the future?
  10. ktb, you need a pic! I want to put a face to the kind words!

  11. Four days until plication and getting paranoid. Is it normal to think about death right before surgery????

I do know there are some lap banders who believe rhat is the only way to go, but so far I can tell you it takes very little to leave me feeling satisfied. I did start soft food diet a few days early because the flu took so much out of me,and whatever I do I do not want to loose weight really fast. Causes more loose skin and other stuff, prefer a slow loss. I am expecting to have some plastic surgery because at 56yrs old, my skin just won't bounce back like yours will. When do you leav...

I'm leaving Tuesday morning and I'm supposed to have the surgery Wednesday although I am pushing to have both pre op and surgery on the same day. We'll see. I got the flu this week during the 9 day liquid diet and I had to eat a few meals. The liquids only were just making me so weak. Starting tomorrow though I am strict liquid only for the next two days so wish me luck!!!

  12. Thanks Boopsie! Be sure and let us know how you are progressing! What did they tell you to do for follow up care with your doctor in the states? Genepha on here is having an xray two weeks after her surgery and wondered if they told you to do the same thing.
  13. My mother-in-law, who is also my sitter while I get plication next week just came down with shingles. Is this a sign I shouldn't do it?

do not take it as a negative sign. It is just another opportunity for you to prove how much you want this new life.

  14. Day 3 pre op diet, ugh... I wish I were put to sleep until the surgery. This is awful.

  15. So, I have been on the pre op diet for the last three days and not enjoying it! I am so irritable and frankly wondering why the heck they make you do this anyway. I would like to be a pleasure to be around on the last week of spending with my precious kiddos, and I'm doing my best to hide my crabbiness, but only drinking liquid protein and eatings bags of broccoli is not fun. Clearly I have some food additions (I know duh) but I had no idea I would experience withdrawals like this. My family is not keen on this entire surgery and it's quite unfortunate because it only adds to the stress. My feelings vacillate between fearing death on the table to fearing no weight loss after all of this. Anyway, I guess I'll always wonder if I don't give this a shot right? My current weight before starting pre op diet was 198 and I was at 194 this morning. I hope I can make the 5% mark before the surgery, actually I hope I can make the whole nine days of no eating normal food! It sorta freaks me out that I won't even get to eat normally until three weeks after the surgery. I hate being over weight, it comes with so many issues..... Well, until the surgery, ciao!
  16. When did you have it done Samantha? How did it go?
  17. Thanks girls! Did you each have to do this liquid protein thing too? How's your results after the surgery?
  18. I am scheduled to have surgery on the 16th with Dr. Ortiz and I am doing the 9 day pre op diet of only protein shakes an green veggies. I am already freaking out and it is day 1! I can't imagine not eating anything for 9 days! Any tip on how to get through this period?
  19. Hi KTB! What was your pre surgery diet? I am scheduled for plication on the 16th and just started the 9 day plan.
