  1. The band is a great tool, but very high maintenance. I didn't think anyone is going that route anymore. They have perfected the sleeve procedure to where the band has went by the wayside.
  2. Hmmm, don't worry, the OCC will do the leak test before you leave. I personally don't know when your scheduled to fly out? But my guess, if your flying out Monday or Tuesday it would be done that morning when all the Friday patients come back to the OCC from the Marriott. Yes, your thinking, that isn't much time before your fly home, but the test only takes a few minutes. What if they find a leak? Well,,, you'd be a first. Relax.....
  3. My suggestion would be to email the OCC nutritionist at nutritionist@obesitycontrolcenter.com But I'm thinking its around 100g per day. I've also seen 1g per pound of body weight.
  4. My weight was out of control all my life, going to the OCC was one of the smartest things I ever did. I did a lot of research back in 2006 and chose the OCC. At that time the lap-band was being offered and the OCC, Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Martinez were "The Place and The Doctors" to go for band surgery. It was a life changer back then and in 2006 the band was the #1 surgery for bariatrics. As time goes by, they found the band had issues and it went by the wayside with the VGS taking its place. Back when I researched places to go for banding, I found that the OCC was on the leading edge of new techniques and procedures concerning bariatric surgery. Today the OCC is still leading the field when it comes to the VGS. Techniques and procedures invented and used at the OCC are being copied by most of the Doctors and hospitals throughout the world now. I'm not paid to moderate this forum and I do this as a volunteer to help other patients. You can't go wrong with going to the OCC, They are the best in the field.
  5. I haven't seen or heard of anyone needing any medical coverage coming to the OCC. Your pretty much under the guiding hands of the OCC, they do almost everything for you. The only time your not in their presence is when your at the hotel for a couple days after your surgery. Most stick around the hotel and take it easy. I guess if you fell out of the hotel bed and got hurt would be a worse case scenario. lol
  6. Relax,, just keep to the diet,, call them when your ready to go and talk to them.
  7. I know where your coming from. Being older has some effect on our metabolism and it is harder for us seniors to lose. I have found exercise to be very important at our age to help jump start our metabolism and burn those calories. I personally ride a bike everyday if possible. Weather permitting it's either a stationary bike or a street bike. I find it very relaxing and a stress reducer, plus all the other benefits that come along with it.

I think it would be wise to contact your surgeon.
  9. I don't know what your daily routine is, exercise really helps. But if your exercising and gaining, your eating the wrong stuff or too much of something that has a lot of calories. Keep a daily food/exercise log and consult Dr. Chaves at the OCC.
  10. Dent-art center offers great dental care at an affordable price. I'll be there in July to finish up a implant. I've always had great care and quality workmanship. They have a website, www.dent-artcenter.com You can contact them thru their website, they have a live chat, her name is Norma, she's great.
  11. Dr. Ariel Ortiz speaker at the 13th INTERNATIONAL BARIATRIC CLUB SYMPOSIUM in Vienna, Austria.

  14. As far as I know this procedure is still being offered. Call the OCC for more details. 866-376-7849
  15. I recommend talking to one of the OCC surgery coordinators. I know your not the first to come from the UK. They should be able to give you the details. Or, maybe a OCC Forum member will come forward and post the details?
  16. #1, I'd call the OCC for Dr. O's take on this. My best guess is that it's scar tissue encasing the port. I can say you've had the band a long time. A lot of us that were banded back then have some sort of issue and have elected to go with revision surgery. If you haven't had a thorough band exam, it could be a good time to schedule that.
  17. Even though I was a big guy, I was very active. I rode bicycle a lot, like every day. After surgery, follow your surgeons advice. I remember it was 4 weeks later before I got on my bike. As far as loose skin,, that's difficult to tell. Everyone is different when it comes to your skin trying to go back to normal. I personally ended up with a full 360 degree tummy tuck,, AKA, lower body lift. Mine was too far gone, I needed plastic surgery.
  18. I guess you have to make up your might weather to do it by dieting alone or choosing weight loss surgery. If your here at the OCC forum, you can check out what everyone has to say about WLS.
  19. This website is for those who are looking into going with weight loss surgery. Look around and educate yourself, hopefully you can make a decision on where to start.
  20. Truthfully, this is what makes the sleeve the "go to" weight loss surgical procedure. I've never heard of anyone needing follow up care from their PCP. If someone has, it's never been mentioned. The only complications you ever read about are if someone is constipated or is having a little acid re-flux. And that can be easily addressed with a phone call to the OCC.
  21. Dent Art Center in TJ is having a make over contest. Here's the link. https://mydentalmakeover.com/
  22. I'm sorry you feel like skipping the "Forum" because no one responds. There's a lot information here and a majority of the members come here to learn about the WLS lifestyle. This forum has been around for a long time, I'm sure if you look hard enough, every question you have has been answered here in the forum. 99.9% of the patients here have had a positive experience with the OCC and their surgery. The OCC itself has been recognized as a "SRC International Center of Excellence" and is "JCI Accredited". Not many doctors or surgical centers in the USA even have that honor. We also have several other social media sites on Facebook that you can go to learn and socialize. As far as how does a patient achieve their weight loss goals? Every patients first step is to make their decision about choosing to go with weight loss surgery. After that its all up to the patient. Remember, weight loss surgery is just a tool, you have to decide to use that tool and make it work to help you achieve your goal. https://obesitycontrolcenter.com/ has a lot of information too, including links to other social media sites.
