This is a brand new workout group forming. Take moment to do a little intro about your fitness goals and what you think you'll try to achieve it.

You need to commit to logging in each day before bed to log your exercise for the day. I've done this before and was finding myself about to climb into bed for the night, then jumping on the treadmill in my PJ's just so I had something to log in for that day.

Even if you fall off track, we are here to get you going again. Bookmark this topic and log in every day even if you didn't exercise!

Let's use "peer pressure" for something more useful.

My goal is to have better stamina and coordination. It goes without saying that we are all here to lose weight, and the lap band should be helping us with that goal, but I've found its made me a little bit lazy. I see the scale move in the right direction and I have a little less motivation to push myself. So I am glad to have someone to be accountable to. There are 2 others that I know will be joining us, so please jump in.

I'm going to be walking and the learn salsa dance dvds.

Hi all,

I would love to join this group, but my banding is this Friday, so my first goal will be to walk in whatever form it takes by next Tuesday..then I will hopefully be heading back into the water, whenever I can (any of you know how long after banding that takes?) Count me in since I live alone and would welcome the additional motivation from fellow bandster's...I will follow you until then, and I am exercising up until my B'date on Friday..Tonight is aqua aerobics!

Hey Cristal! You know I'm in! Thanks for setting up the thread!

I am on level 2 of my 30 Day Shred with Jillian Michaels. I just started level 2 this past weekend. I still feel like I'm gonna die and need to take breaks in between when she says not to BUT that's how I felt on level 1 until it became easy. I can do this! And I feel great.

SO- today, just like every day- 20 minute hard core circuit training.

Welcome BrownEyedGirl! Can we call you by something shorter? I did walking today also, but I did better than my 12yr old kid and his beagle! My legs are complaining but it's good. I didn't realize how neglected my body has been. We walked 1/2 hr uphill this morning and 2 five minute walks this evening. It's a start. :D What do you mean by "flapping around"?

Welcome Michele! If the OCC team is banding you, you should recover way quick! I had no downtime. I don't think you'll need to wait until tuesday to start walking for exercise unless your dizzy or tired. However, I think you have to wait for the surgery glue to wear off before you go swimming. Quick hint: don't try to peel or rub it off even around the edges. I gave myself a nasty rub burn that has discolored due to my impatience. Let the glue do it's thing.

Hi Mandy! Thanks for following up on that message looking for a buddy, look at all the support we got in one day! WOO HOO! So are you noticing any body changes with her workout? I don't know anything about her. What time of day are you able to carve out for this on a regular basis? I used to do all my exercise before coffee but my husband only likes to work out in afternoon. I think that is what originally threw me off track, but 15 years later I don't think it counts as an excuse anymore. :P

Hi ladies, I think this is a good idea. I need the help to be accountable. I have been trying to be consistant with my workouts but work 12hr days on my feet most of them.. Well here goes. I worked out 30mins today on the eliptical and light arm weights. My goal is 5 days a week...Long stretch but so far it has been at least. 3 days this week.

Welcome ladie! What kind of work are you doing that you are standing for that long?

I didn't get any aerobic exercise in today. I had to do a little bit of light moving and was really run down from allergies or something. But I did say I would log in everyday no matter what, so here I am...

OK, so today is Friday and I did not work out Wednesday or Thursday. Those are my two toughest days. I'm jammed packed busy from 8:30-10:30 on this days. I know I need to get up and workout BEFORE work but I am NOT a morning person. This is where I need the encouragement, ladies.

I also just read Lindsay's post about working out for an hour a day. So here's my new goal... Still do my 20 minute circuit training daily but also add walk/run for an additional 30-40 minutes 5 days per week. I'll do that this week and see if I can increase my weight loss. I've lost exactly 1.6 lbs each week for the past 2 weeks and I'd like it to be at least 2 lbs.

So we'll see.... :)

I've been so slammed I haven't logged in for a couple of days. But, I did a 2 hour walk/stroll on Saturday and again today. I missed Sunday activity altogether. I'm going to shoot for another tomorrow if the weather allows.

Welcome back Mandy. I visited your other post and you've got a ton of response on that. That's awesome

Hi Cristal,

Ugh! I am STRUGGLING! I need to make my work outs a priority!

My sister and I started our weight loss journeys together on New Years. She is doing it the old fashioned way- I got the Lap Band as a tool. She does not know this. It is KILLING me because she has lost 35 lbs so far and I have lost 28 WITH A LAP BAND! And I know it is because she is working out more and harder but it is still frustrating. And it makes me doubt whether this was a good decision or not.

... I think I'm just having a bad-lap-band-day. :(

Well it looks like everyone fell off the bandwagon with this post...so I'll talk to myself...

I have been struggling with my workouts and I know this is why I am not losing as much as I would have hoped. I still have no restriction so it is imperative for me to be burning off any extra calories I am taking in. My sister has been kicking my tail in the workout department. She has steadily been losing 3-4 lbs per week but that's because she is working out 6-7 days per week and working out harder than me too! She just signed up for her 1st 5K and I am so proud of her. And it motivated me too! I am getting back on track with the Couch 2 5K. I started back on week 3 and found a podcast online that tells me when to run andn when to walk. So it takes the thinking out of it. It was fun. So I did my Jillian Michaels yesterday and ran today. I think I will just go back and forth between the two. The couch25K is supposed to be ran 3 days per week and I still want some strength training also so the 30 day shred with Jillian Michaels is perfect for that.

I am forcing myself to not let anything get in the way of my workouts from here on out!

Hi group,

I will start to use this thread this week and will do my best to log in daily...I waited until I felt well enough after surgery to do some walking..Monday was my first day, post surgery and I did my in home walking DVD for 25 minutes...felt sore the day after (it is amazing how fast you go down hill with just a week of no exercise), anyway, yesterday I did a 25 minute outdoor walk during lunch which involve gentle hills..my back started to ache and luckily for me one of my patients that day is a trainer..she gave me good core advice which will not require me to bend or do sit ups..yet....Before surgery I did Wii fit yoga every Am for 24 minutes, and aqua aerobics three times a week for 45 minutes..I look forward to regular exercise

I've not been exercising this week. I'm just really tired. While I know that it is a vicious circle - too tired to exercise which makes you even more tired because exercise creates energy - I don't know how to get myself out of this funk!

Well it looks like everyone fell off the bandwagon with this post...so I'll talk to myself...

Hey Mandy-

A family member had surgery and I've been busy helping out, so I'm a little scattered. I've been following this topic through the subscription I set up, but forgot to post to your last reply. I think I actually didn't know what to say to encourage you. It is super lame that your sister and yours weight loss don't match, but if you're like me the reason you took such a drastic measure is because you had a more difficult time than others losing weight?

Personally, I have bipolar disorder and this last episode lasted about 10 weeks. Usually they last about 3 weeks and I gain 10 lbs. With the lap band and this extended episode I only gained 6 lbs but have been able to drop almost all of it within a week. This is why I opted for the band. I hoped it would slow the weight gain during bad times and help me get back to where I was quicker. It's good to feel those collar bones again. Now that I'm on the good side I need to get my butt in gear.

Also, I know of a local here that had the band 3+ years ago and dropped immediately like we all did but didn't get past that because she became addicted to ice cream. However she didn't gain it back. About 6 months ago she buckled down and is almost to goal. That is what I love about the band. We don't regain what we've lost and if we fall off we can always get back on.

If you're exercising you're doing the right thing. Your body may just be adjusting.

Hi Michele!

So, it's been a week and a half. How's everything else going besides the exercise? Have you lost since the surgery?

Hey Cristal, I hope you are feeling better. I promise, the previous posts weren't a dig at anyone- just me venting to open space. :) But I am glad you are back. It's always encouraging to hear how the band is helping others. It is motivating.

I weigh in on Fridays. Wednesday and Thursdays are my toughest workout days because of my schedule. But my sister joked with me today and said "Today is our last chance workout before weigh-in in the morning. Make it count!" That really motivated me. So tonight I did my 30 day shred video. And it's raining here right now. So afterward I jogged over to my mailbox in the rain. It felt soooo good. I was so hot, the rain felt amazing! I will get up early tomorrow and do my couch25K run before I weigh in. I really want to lose 2 pounds per week. I think that is a safe and realistic goal. I'll post my weight tomorrow! Nighty night! I'm gonna go have my 150 calorie warm delight- I like to think I earned it!

Hi Everyone,

Just did my Leslie Sansone 20 minute walk...waiting for my new DVD's...I have lost 10 pounds since surgery and this week was my "official" back to exercise week..I tried some lunch walks last week but was too sore still. I have almost healed everywhere, still some bruises and glue..and the port hurts with certain movements. I have back pain because I haven't been doing my AM yoga which stretches out my back, but involves touching my toes and other movements..any ideas on how long until I can? I am really looking forward to getting back into the water too but figure I have about another week - a bit intense and still sore...Hope all of you are doing well, and I know how you feel with the tired thing..Tuesday I wanted to come home and get right to it but instead fell asleep.. Oh, and what is 150 calorie warm delight? Sounds good...

Janice, Congrats on the marathon! I am working up to that. I went running with my sister today to give me the extra motivation and push. We ran/walked for 3 miles but I ran 1 full mile in the middle. It's the 1st time I've run a mile without stopping. Ever. I'm proud of myself. I couldn't have done it without my sister there pushing me along telling me not to stop. Today was a great workout day. I've only run on my treadmill up until today and finally understand why people say it is easier to run outside then in. Now I totally get it! I'm going to run with her again tomorrow. I really want to run a 5K by the end of May.

Mandy- What is the 25couch run?

Michele- You should call OCC and ask them. I wasn't given very strict limitations on exercise.

Hey Cristal,

The Couch25K program is designed for "couch potatoes" to learn how to run a 5K in 9 weeks. Here's the running plan: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

It's been a huge challenge for me. I've been running on my treadmill and get very discouraged. I ran outside today and it felt soo much easier- but I also had my sister pushing me along which really helped too.

You should check it out. I'm on week 3. I've been on week 3 for a while now. I will move on to week 4 on Monday.

Hi all,

Last night I did my one mile in house walk...

Today was my first day of Tai Chi, loved it and the instructor..not as easy as it looked and I used leg and butt muscles I didn't know I owned! I will be doing this 2/3 times a week for 45 minutes...

I will never be a runner due to health issues but I am happy to see your achievements..I am hoping for race walking someday and the Cancer Three Day next spring...

You go girls..
