SIZE 8... Feels GREAT!
Kimmy in MD replied to MamaMichelle's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
YAYYYY Michelle! I know how great that must feel and I can't wait to join you!! Quick question, since you are down to an 8 now and still have 30 lbs to go to hit the 100 pound mark, Are you rethinking your weightloss goal? You will end up about a size 4 (I think) if you loose 100. Just wondering. -

drinking causing restriction?!?!
Kimmy in MD replied to happygirl02's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I remember being told the same thing by Dr. Miranda. Since being banded I have read other information. The not drinking before is off base. You just don't want to drink after you eat because it will flush the food faster into the stomach. You don't get the full feeling for very long if you do this. My fill doctor called it "Flushing" she compared it to a clog in a toilet. You know if you keep pouring water on the clog it eventually goes down. She said patients that "Flush" typically have poor results with the band. -
Slow Weight loss solution???
Kimmy in MD replied to Painter's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Painter, I actually asked about this issue quite some time ago. Not because I am having slow weightloss (but when is it ever fast enough??) but because I think what you are doing is a GREAT idea. I also think that going to weight watchers or some other group to get additional motivation and support would be a great idea for people that are not losing weight on their own. Like we always say, the band is a tool, not a magic wand that magically removes calories as food passes through it into our stomach. Let's face it. We still have to DIET and EXERCISE. The band just makes the dieting easier! -
Oh what a wonderful day!!

YAYYYY!!! You will need to order 8s to wear by Christmas!! -
ditto to everything Kim said, except not sure about the sit-ups. I was told to wait 3 months until I did any abdominal work. I was banded in late May and can not do sit-ups until September. If you were banded in June, I would think you need to wait until later than August to do sit-ups.

Michelle I hope you find what you are looking for and that your tears end soon. Not sure if this will help, but my mom always does this thing when she has lost something. We are not Catholic but I guess the Tony mentioned in it is the Patron Saint of lost items or something. Not sure where she got it, but for some reason it seems to work. She says to say: "Tony, Tony turn around, somethings lost that must be found." and then you turn around 3 times and find the item. Sometimes she does it more than once. I don't know, maybe it is the change in perspective from turning or something. Ok...it is official, I am a looney bird!

Go Paula! Go Paula! You know I saw they have underwater treadmills now that you can put in your hot tub, so I guess if you had a waterproof pedometer you could count the steps! I think an hour of water aerobics is great no matter how many steps it equals!!

Amanda I use fitday.com and love it! by the way, why does it say that about updating on the bottom of your posts?

Please do not send me emails trying to convince me one way or another about who said what to whom or didn't say what to whom. They are not appreciated and they are not wanted. I am able to make my own decisions and do not need to be persuaded one way or another about another forum member's personal motivations.

Welcome back Cedar... I do enjoy it when you mix it up a bit on here and I must say I have to 2nd your sentiments. The last few days this board has been depressing with all the whining and people ready to give up before they have barely begun the fight. Goes to show that getting banded is not something you should just jump into, but something you should consider and think about seriously to see if you have the committment to really do it. The key, take a good hard look at yourself and your eating and exercise behavior and if you are truly doing all you say you are doing, then you should go see a doctor and get checked for medical reasons why you aren't losing. This is not rocket science. Less calories consumed than burned = weight loss. Plain and simple. Of course there are smarter ways to do it, like drinking plenty of water and eating high protein, low carb. Everyone is so PC and sympathetic...drives me crazy at times.

A few "IS THIS NORMAL" questions . . .
Kimmy in MD replied to laadeedaa's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Maybe it has something to do with the name Kim! LOL All I know is it is killing me!! If it doesn't change soon I am going to call my gyno about it. I did ask my fill doc about it and she told me that I should try to get on a monophasic birth control pill instead of the tri-phasic pill I currently take. She said that the monophasic pill would not cause as many fluctuations to my body each month. Something to think about I guess. -
Unless there is a medical reason i.e. hormones, thyroid etc.. it has to be portion control and caloric intake. Try keeping a food journal and take a really good hard look at the portions you are eating. Try fitday.com it has great tools to help you journal your foods and your activities so you can make sure you are burning more calories than you are taking in. If you find that you are consuming less than 1200 calories daily, try bumping up to 1100-1200 daily and see if that helps, not eating enough can also slow down the weight loss.

No Mochas during the pre-op diet, unless they are zero calorie. Stormy, my bmi was 35 and I still called Dr. Miranda, maybe you and your husband will both be able to do a conference call with her together. She is very straightforward and doesn't BS, when I told her that I typically ate lean cuisines daily anyway, she said, well then why are you overweight and need this surgery? She doesn't mess around and will tell you like it is.

weight gain after 21 day post-op
Kimmy in MD replied to ackovach's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
I didn't gain back anything I lost during the liquid portion. -
Are you keeping a journal of everything you eat? every day??? every bite??? This is not rocket science, you have to take in less calories than you burn during the day to lose. It may take writing everything down and being extremely honest with yourself about these habits. If after you do that and you still are not losing, I would make sure to have my hormones, thyroid etc...checked because it may be something medically that is keeping you from losing weight. If you need a good place to keep the journal, try fitday.com they help you track your food and your activity levels all for free.

A few "IS THIS NORMAL" questions . . .
Kimmy in MD replied to laadeedaa's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
Don't bet on the 40 day reprieve, I have been getting my cycle every 2 weeks since the surgery. The last one lasted 3 weeks! ARGH...A totally unwelcome and unwanted side effect!! -
I take a flax seed oil capsule every day and I have been drinking cranberry/apple herbal tea. If you get blocked up, rose hips should help with that.

WOW!!!! Holy Cow!! 700 calories for a small! I may never drink another McD shake again!!!

I have a funny feeling...
Kimmy in MD replied to Kim2BSlim's topic in Gastric Band Support & Discussion
don't question! just ENJOY!! -
How about the crystal light or sugar free slurpies! They are the bomb. Not cola flavored though

Hi Cara, You already got pretty good advice, so I won't repeat, but foods: I can't eat scrambled eggs, which is killing me! I like my eggs dry so maybe if they were on the runny side it would work. Salads go down pretty great and I put hard boiled egg in mine for added protein, it goes down just fine. I love Maryland Cream of Crab soup and find myself eating it often. Biggest thing is the speed at which you eat and the bite sizes you take. If you eat too fast or take too big of bites, almost everything will come back up. In the mornings there have been 2 occassions even water wouldn't stay down. Welcome!

I am bumping this to the top of the forum. I was hoping someone else would. To me I find it motivating and a good way to remember to keep my activity levels up. It is 8:47 AM, EST and I am at 9313 for the day so far. Come on, let's see you post your pedometer stats!
