Four... no matter what language you say it in... I just fit into a pair of size FOUR jeans... yes, me! I love thrift store, bargain hunting. Its a huge thrill to me to find something that i love for less then $10. From my amazing, full length wool coat for $8.88, to my wool peacoat for $6.88 to my Ralph Lauren cords for $3.33 or my Stuart Weitzman pumps for $4.50... I love a bargin, but I have to admit, pulling those 4's off the endless jean rack and looking at them and thinking "no way" - t

The Rip van Winkle Years

You will "get" this title more as we go along. For now, let's just say it refers to the period of my life when my main focus was raising the two human beings I had produced. My concerns were minor compared to the awesome task of supporting and nurturing my daughters to adulthood. Mr. Willing was not much a part of this. In his defense, when he had said, "So, you're one of those women who doesn't want to have children?" after a night of competition disco dancing, I had answered, "Actually I'd lik

9 months post-op VSG

I couldn't be more pleased with the results of my sleeve surgery performed by Dr. Ortiz!!! In 2 days, I will reach my 9 month anniversary of my procedure and I have lost 161 lbs. Unbelievable...I have a new life now, and needed to give a shout out to the OCC staff for giving me my life back. I am able to go out with my daughter and play & have scheduled my first vacation with her since she was 2 years old (she's 10 now.) You better believe that I'm getting on every roller coaster my rear end

Along the Road

I entered adolescence only slightly plump & very self-coscienious. We moved out of the city when I was in middle school, and between 8th grade & high school I went through a transformation without even really knowing it. As a loyal reader of the teen movie mags of the day, I constantly compared myself to Annette Funicello and Sondra Dee. They seemed so perfect, and their lives so exciting. (Side note: In case you too young to know them, Sondra Dee died at about 60. Her rumored case of

One year and One month later

Well, it has been a very busy year post band...not only am I adjusting to my husbands death and being a widow, but also having two college age kids leaving, one for grad school, meaning this is it..I am now entering the second half of my life...and it's going to be all about me baby!! But, getting here has been an up and down journey. Two years ago after my husband passed away from a long and painful illness, my daughter went to a local MD to see about getting a band using some of the funds he l

Who I am and how I got here.

I am an older woman. I love that euphemistic phrase. How old is an older woman? Not young, not old, but closer to old than young. That describes me alright. I won't say how old right now, though I will give clues as I go along... if you follow me on this blog adventure long enough you will figure it out. For the time being I don't want only women of a limited age range to be able to identify with my story. I would like to be able to appeal to men as well, but I think it is uniquely a woman's st

For those of you that have your surgery coming up try not to be too nervous, the staff is great, the facility and hotels are great. The surgery is surgery so easier for some than for others but with the care at OCC you know that you are in good hands. For me after the surgery was hard, I was very

five days out

Okay, I'm not sure if anyone will read this, and I guess it doesn't matter too much, I just want to keep track of how I'm feeling. If you do read this, and have any advice, I am all too willing to hear it! I had surgery on Friday, April 15th. I am finally at home, after a slow paced return, and I think I'm feeling okay. On Saturday, I had a complete breakdown, thinking I had made this HUGE mistake. I had prepared myself with all the facts, but I think I didn't prepare myself mentally. Perhaps th

Almost half way there

My third week of my 7 week fitness challenge had some ups, and some downs. I am doing great on my fitness routine. I went to the gym twice, and have an appointment with a trainer on Thursday. The little muscles on my arms are starting to pop out (love the rowing machine) and I have achieved some of my goal levels already. I made an appointment with a trainer at my gym for a fitness test. I know that I need actual numbers to help motivate me, so this is just one more gimmick to help me stay on tr

So, after a lot of research and waiting, and doctor appointments I have finally had my surgery. I had been planning to start writing about it the process right away before I even went through my initial visit, but I suppose I can fill you in on the time leading up to the actual surgery in past tense, and then continue to write post surgery in present. So the beginning of my story goes like this - I haven't always been overweight, but I've almost always assumed that I was. I remember that as a

OCC is Like going to a SPA and has much more than just WLS to offer.

In my next Blog entry I will talk about my Plication journey thus far but right now I wanted to mention some other features of the OCC that many people may not be aware of. On March 9th I had my plication surgery. While I was in the operating room my Mother spoke to Linda Martin a wonderful and beautiful nurse who works in the esthetics departments of the OCC. She and Dr.So perform non-invasive cosmetics procedures for family and patients at the OCC. So while I was in surgery my Mother, w

Two weeks down

The second week is done and I'm slightly ahead of my goal. I only made it to the gym once but I am already feeling stronger and fitter. We had some crazy weather so I'm glad I did get all my cardio in for the week. My eating was better this past week as well, I am hoping to continue that this coming week. Usually the first couple weeks of a goal are easy, you have the motivation from a new beginning. But the following through part can be tough. I am hoping to get a day of cross county skiing in

It's been almost a YEAR!!

One week from today will be exactly 1 year with my band!! I've been wishy washy about my goal weight all along. I've said between 135 & 145 is where I want to be. Today I weigh 150, i've been stuck here for about 2 months. I guess my goal weight is 140. With summer only a couple of months away, i'm going to increase my excercise to 5 days a week. This 10 lbs. should be gone in no time. My restriction has been great. Since day one I've only thrown up one time. It was my fault!! Took

First week - still on track

I made my fitness goal for the week - did better than goal actually. And I made it to the gym twice. So far so good. I have been keeping track of my fitness hours in a Google spreadsheet, and I just finished planning out the coming week. It really helps to plan out every day, and have backup plans if something doesn't work out. My goals for week 2 include doing a little more than I did last week, and also cutting back on the sweets a little more. I need to remember my goal when I find myself at

New fitness challenge

Today starts my new challenge. I was so successful the last time I did this blog last summer. Even though I don't know if anyone will read this, I was surprised how motivating it was to check in every week and report on making my goals. My target date for this new challenge is the first weekend of May. I will be seeing some family then, and I want to be healthy and fit and look great. That gives me 7 weeks, and instead of trying to do 10 hours a week of exercise, I'm going to shoot for 7 and m

Two days till plication!

So the days are ticking by, slowly with this whole liquid thing! I have to admit I broke down and had a meal tonight. I got a terrible sinus infection and upper respiratory infection and the lack of nutrients was really compromising my immune system. Anyway, I am feel much better now and ready to tackle the next two days of liquids only and fasting. I am supposed to fly into San Diego on Tuesday morning and have my pre op tests done Tuesday followed by surgery on Wednesday although I am pushing
