Four, 4, vier, fire, cuatro, chetiri, quattro, yon, quatre

Four... no matter what language you say it in... I just fit into a pair of size FOUR jeans... yes, me! I love thrift store, bargain hunting. Its a huge thrill to me to find something that i love for less then $10. From my amazing, full length wool coat for $8.88, to my wool peacoat for $6.88 to my Ralph Lauren cords for $3.33 or my Stuart Weitzman pumps for $4.50... I love a bargin, but I have to admit, pulling those 4's off the endless jean rack and looking at them and thinking "no way" - t

Excited!

I'm starting to get very excited about my weight-loss journey. My first fill is tomorrow afternoon. I've lost close to 20 pounds since I started and I can tell the difference in how my clothes fit me. My one *problem child* incision is healing well, finally. I've been reading on the forums and in blogs about people getting nauseous because they were eating too much, too fast. When I first starting reading about it, I totally thought they were high! How in the *world* is that even possibl

People

People are telling me that they can see a difference in me. Wow. And I haven't even had my first fill yet so I feel like I can eat just about anything. I'm making a conscious effort to watch my portion sizes, drink plenty of water, take super small bites and chew like a mad-woman, all in slow motion! The gals at the bead shop today told me that they can totally see a difference in my face, my tummy and my butt. Awesome! I just wish the scales would show me that! Honestly, I get on every F

My first fill is scheduled!

I scheduled my first fill yesterday. It will be done by Fill Centers USA in Salt Lake City on Wednesday, August 12th at 2:30, using flouro. I live about six hours away, so I'll get up early, drive down there, get my fill, check in at my motel, and then go check in for the Scentsy convention. I know I'll be on liquids during convention, but that's okay. I'd rather get my fill on Wednesday and then have to be on liquids during convention (and know that I can go back to Fill Centers USA for an

What a day!

Wow! What a mile-stone type of day this is, so far. Michael's son is leaving to go to visit his Aunt in Wales for three weeks. Stephen is due home from Iraq this afternoon for two weeks. Michael H.'s bday is today. Austin's bday is today. Found out that Derek (ex-stepson) got married. Wow!! I'm getting anxious about eating soft foods. That happens on Friday. I'm ready. Went to a WLS support group last night at one of the local hospitals. There were LOTS of people there doing the 'wai

2 weeks measurements

It's been two weeks since I got banded. I took measurements before my surgery and I was going to wait until the one month mark to measure again, but I just couldn't wait. So I wanted to share them with you. Now I'm sure you all understand why I measured my middle in 3 different spots. When you're big and you have rolls, you've got different sizes. So here's my progress: DAY OF SURGERY MEASUREMENTS: 06/28/2009 BREASTS: 47” UPPER GUT: 42” BELLY BUTTON: 47.5” LOWER GUT:

Round 3 PT a Bust!

Day one went great. Day two we went to town. I was good all morning. Soy milk carrot juice and isopure. MMMMM until I ran out!!! by 3 I was starving. so I took my kids out to Mongolian BBQ which is one of those places where we can load up a bowl with meat veggies noodles and sauces and they cook it on a round grill right in front of us. So I figured if I was going to break the PT I was going to do it with just meat and veggies (no noodles) which really are my favorite. So I ate lapband style. B

Fill Day - Thinking Thin

So I'm reading a book on 'thinking thin' - it goes through different exercises (not physical) on how to change your thinking. One of the big things it talks about is accepting when you make a 'mistake' (eat something you know you shouldn't) and then rewiring your brain from 'failure' to picking yourself up and moving forward. I think many people who have worked on their weight have dealt with this. You have a day where you have totally eaten the whole quart of icecream, or three brownies,

Slowly feeling positive

Today is two weeks post-op. Well, I should say that this afternoon at 4:17 pm is two weeks post-op. I've had some problems with a couple of my incisions. One major problem (all the stitches came out of one incision) and one minor problem (one of the stitches came out of another incision). So I've been REALLY concentrating on wound care and cleaning of same during the last two weeks. 'What to eat' has come in second, every day. I'm more concerned about my wounds not getting infected (which

2nd Fill Tomorrow

My 2nd fill is tomorrow. Really it's my third - but my second fill since I took control and started to use this band for what it was intended. This week I've done pretty well. I've had lots of situations where I went out to eat. Today I had 1/2 a taco and maybe three-quarter of a cup of beans - a boost - a stick of cheese - and for dinner four bites of a beef and blue cheese sandwich. Maybe 1200 calories today. That's the most I've eaten all week - the point is, I really need this fill. I

Simon is home, safe and sound! YAY!!

My boxer was discovered missing from my yard yesterday morning. I have been frantic. I searched the Humane Society. I put out an ad on Craigslist and in my local paper. I searched my neighborhood and the local parks. I cried. And then I cried some more. I kept imagining him hungry and thirsty and going to the river to get a drink, missing his footing and falling in, to be swept along to who-knows-where. I had a friend come over on Friday to get some extra no-good-to-me-but-someone-else-m

starting recovery

I already can feel the difference after the PT has started. This morning I drank 16 oz right down before feeling full. by 3pm this afternoon I had the same satisfied feeling after an 8oz cup. So I know I had stretched it out grazing all weekend. I am glad I am doing the 5 day pt to get back on the ball. here is the total nutrition facts at the end of today. I drank ALOT of soymilk (yes with a little creamer) Isopure, and a small dinner splurge(3 bites of tune Noodle cassaroll) that really threw

My legacy to my children/grandchildren

Reading the thread about obese children has really touched me. I have been fat my whole life. I weighed in at 196 during the initial Dr's appointment when I discovered I was pregnant with my son. He'll be 29 in a few weeks. So, yeah...30 years of being overweight. I have a niece who just got married the middle of April. My whole family was present for her wedding. My dad, my two sisters, my two daughters (two of my three children). My dad and my son have the same type of body. Stick-thi

My First Week

Well it's been a week since I've been banded and this afternoon I'm going to see my doc for my first check up. I have to admit that this has been easier than I thought it would be. Mentally, on a scale of 1-10 my struggles have been about a 5. Physically, my struggles have been about a 3. I was really expecting some nausea and haven't had any thank God. I do not do well with nausea. I've dropped 10 pounds but I'm not jumping for joy yet. My surgeon was hesitant to do the surgery with such

Shh...don't tell anyone!

Today’s exciting instalment does not revolve around me. In fact, it’s not exciting either. And indeed, I wrote it yesterday. So it’s not actually today’s…let’s move on. Of late, I have had several people contact me from the gastric band communes across the globe commenting about our shared experiences. One good thing about this procedure is that it is encourages people to seek out fellow bandibulars to discuss what we are going through or are likely to go through and in doing so, encourages vir

A few things I'd mention to anyone considering lap band

First of all...I am grossly overweight. I should weigh somewhere in the low 160's and I weigh in the high 270's. So you can see...*grossly* overweight. I have a *lot* of fat/weight to move whenever I sit up or bend over or even roll over in bed. Just doing those things post-op caused some of my stitches to pop. I think that's why the Dr. put my port where he did, was so that I could bend over and not open the port incision. In the meantime, I've lost at least three stitches, possibly four.

I Found Satisfaction

Throughout my life I've had plenty of Slim Fast drinks. The problem with them was I would drink them as a drink with my meals. I could chug a chocolate Slim Fast shake in about 4 gulps then move on to my cheeseburger and fries. So I stayed away from them. Hadn't had one in years. Well being in Kuwait, the price of everything is jacked up. I was looking to buy some protein powder but the jumbo jar was about $80. Not happening. So until my protein gets here that I just ordered from drugsto

Metabolism boost #1- MORE FOOD

My 2 cents is in blue so no one get confused. So why do we hit those nasty plateau's??? That's one reason it's almost always easiest to lose weight at the start of a diet, and harder later on, Kimball says: "When you are very overweight your metabolism is already running so high that any small cut in calories will result in an immediate loss." Then, when you lose significant amounts of body fat and muscle, your body needs fewer calories to sustain itself, she says. That helps explain why it's
